ZCON 2015 Hookup

Recommended Posts

I suspect any post with hookup in the title will get some attention from this bunch. ;)

For those of us attending ZCON in Memphis, we need some way to easily contact each other, arrange meetings and introductions, ...etc.

I propose we look at the Push-To-Talk app called Zello, available for Android and iPhone.  My local club is getting underway with it for local cruises and the caravan trip to Memphis.

I've gone on Zello and set up a channel named "czcc", password "classicz" - everything in lower case.  It requires a verified email address to join, no other restrictions.  When you join the channel, you'll get to see other users already registered to it and request to add them to your contacts.

The support page at Zello has good instructions for use: http://support.zello.com/home

I really want to meet others from this forum and match faces and cars to handles.

What do you think?

Awwww crap. I thought you were taking the lead on arranging escorts for the show or something.

I completely support the concept of meeting and being able to get in touch, but I don't have a smart phone. Will this system work for me on my Neolithic flip phone?

I was thinking we could just exchange phone numbers or set up arrangements to meet at one of the local brew pubs. I've been known to make an effort to visit all of the local breweries in any new town I visit. I sure hope there aren't twenty of them...

If I knew I would make the show I would offer up a meet at my car or maybe someone else could use their car. I thought at one of the shows we had name tags and you would/could put your inner Web name on there too.

I've made up my mind to go in comfort, white Camry 4 door.  We can use it as a free taxi cab, I'm not drinking and driving so maybe for the brewery crawl we'll need a real cab or a recovering alcoholic with at least a six months chip. :D

I'll post on this site when I get there, maybe even give out my room number or phone number.  I'm going Friday, so I'll be there around lunch central time.  Have y'all noticed check in's at 3pm central?  That's kinda late isn't it?

See ya soon,

Cliff

I'm supposed to get in on Thursday at about 4PM. I haven't arranged any transportation from the airport to the hotel, but I'm hoping the hotel offers a shuttle.

Cliff (or anyone else interested), Do you want me to wait for you before I start any sort of brewery crawl?   I'll need something interesting to do on Thursday eve, but I could probably find something that doesn't include a brewery if I thought about it real hard. :)

Some other ideas?

I've never been to Graceland. Is it something I really need to see while in the area or can I leave it off my bucket list? I'm thinking I could do without, but if it's really really something that everyone should visit if they get that close... then I'll reconsider.

How about a driving tour to see the"Birthplace Of The American Blues?" Legend has it that the American blues was born when Robert Johnson met the devil at "the crossroads" and sold his soul in exchange for phenomenal guitar prowess. There's apparently controversy and contention over the exact location of the crossroads at which this event supposedly took place, but all of them are within a 100 mile drive of Memphis. Would be cool to have some pics of each of the possible locations. Would be even cooler if there was a Z in the background.

Arranging for companions of the evening is one's personal responsibility.

Zello is a walkie-talkie app for smartphones.  I only recently came out of the Neolithic age and got my first smartphone.  Using something like this bypasses the need for everyone to keep up with others contact info on their personal phone.   I'll PM my phone # to you.

Here's a start, http://staxmuseum.com/  then down Highway 61.  One of my favorite movies,   O Brother, Where Art Thou had the Crossroads where they picked up Tommy Johnson.  I'd love to see some of that Highway's Juke Joints.  maybe we could hit the blues bars and drink PBR one night then do the breweries and drink the good stuff the next day.  Janis Joplin's song "what good can drinkin' do"

I went to Graceland back in the 80s.  I've heard now it's like a circus or something.  All this other stuff to make money, not much about Elvis was added.

I'll take a look at the Stax later tonight. Thanks for the link. Here's some stuff I found while poking around on-line:

100 things to do in Memphis:

http://www.ilovememphisblog.com/2012/05/100-places-to-go-in-memphis/

And 100 things to eat in Memphis:

And apparently you should know how to finish the sentence: "Get dope out your vein…"
