260DET Posted June 29, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2012 This incar is of a one lap PB around the improved Lakeside circuit in AU, hosted a couple of international F1 GP's back in the late sixties plus V8 supercar races after then. Now it hosts races, time attack etc up to State level, pretty testing circuit but a real blast if you can keep it on the tarmac Anyway here is the vid, perhaps others would like to post their one lap PB's, Z is a 280ZXT with a VG30DET engine and Federal FZ201 semi slicks
tlorber Posted June 29, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2012 Great video and sound. I'm assuming it must be hi def? However, I noticed that the steering wheel is on the wrong side.
steve91tt Posted June 29, 2012 Share #3 Posted June 29, 2012 Nice looking track video! Here is a lap I recorded going around Houston MSR in a Driver's Edge event earlier this year. I was driving a 1971 240Z with a L30 stoker.
TomoHawk Posted June 30, 2012 Share #4 Posted June 30, 2012 I really don't like seeing that dumb curbing stuff. They should all remove the curbing so people learn how to drive, like the masters. Otherwise, just make the track wider, or just make it straight.
260DET Posted June 30, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted June 30, 2012 Love the long fast American tracks, the only ones comparable in AU would be Mt Panaroma (Bathurst) and Phillip Island although I can do over 200kph at Lakeside and through The Kink too which adds to the, errrr, excitement I find that the alternative coloured kerbs can be handy as markers eg corner apex, otherwise the problem is that there is always someone who will cut a corner and throw up rubbish onto the track.
steve91tt Posted June 30, 2012 Share #6 Posted June 30, 2012 If it's paved...drive on it. As long as it doesn't upset the suspension, the fastest way around can involve putting a wheel on the curbing.
TomoHawk Posted June 30, 2012 Share #7 Posted June 30, 2012 (edited) If you want to go fast, go to Daytona or Indianapolis. If you want a curvy track, learn to DRIVE, instead of expecting the track owner to make up for your lack of skill. Otherwise, you can go to the drag strip; it's wide, and there are no curves, so there is no curbing. If you insist on having curbing, we'll be happy to provide some square curbs for you to drive over. Edited June 30, 2012 by TomoHawk
steve91tt Posted June 30, 2012 Share #8 Posted June 30, 2012 Square curbing doesn't sound like much fun and I'm not much of a drag strip guy. Maybe one day I'll be a good enough driver to only use the black bits and still turn in quick, consistent lap times. Still lots to learn about competitive driving. That's the fun part. TomoHawk Posted July 5, 2012 Share #9 Posted July 5, 2012 If you want to practice high speed driving with "square curbing," head to the local shopping mall!
Stanley Posted July 5, 2012 Share #10 Posted July 5, 2012 If you want to practice high speed driving with "square curbing," head to the local shopping mall! We used to do this a lot, mostly after drinking, and usually in pickup trucks.
tlorber Posted July 5, 2012 Share #11 Posted July 5, 2012 This was linked to the MSA site. Sorry if it is a repeat but it is very cool. It is rather unusual to see a Z as the heavy horsepower car on the track.
260DET Posted July 6, 2012 Author Share #12 Posted July 6, 2012 Bit of a traffic jam there and the Z driver is being very polite, great track though.
