Might be going to Germany, should I take the 240?

I'll find out next week whether I'm going to Geilenkirchen Germany this summer for 3 years. I'm thinking about taking the 240 as a second car to commute to work in. It's reliable enough to be a 3-4 day a week daily driver and would be alot of fun on the back roads. I'll have access to USPS but am curious how active the Z car club in Germany is and how hard it is to find mechanics who work on older cars.

Hi Arne,

you are welcome. Geilenkirchen is 2 hours drive to Nurburgring or 1 hour to me. Do you want to have it registered in Germany as an Importcar? Ask a specialist, I think there are special rules for foreigners and their cars as we have so called "Custom's licences". In case you want a german registration ask for a H licence.

As the Z is elder than 30 years you can get a H (Historic car) plate and the TUV looks at these cars with different eyes (Originality!). Elder mechanics that know the Z are hard to find. I think GermanZ lives nearby to Geilenkirchen and also the dutch border isn't far away. In Netherland there are some more Zs than in Germany.

I don't know anything about current registration requirements but I had the pleasure of being in Germany for 3 years many years ago. It would certainly be a fun place to drive a Z. As mentioned, I know there is a large active Z group in the Netherlands. These folks are members of our Indy Z Car Club and speak fluent English. Here is a link to their Z restoration shop. http://www.autoservice-rozendaal.nl/

Mechanichs isn't something to worry about, a Z is a simple car to work on, parts can be hard to get but you can allways get them shipped from US.

One thing you shall have in mind is that there is salty roads, or can be during winter time so if you bring it, it is summer drive only.

I know of two other Z guys in Germany, so there is help out there.

If you plan on taking a trip up north, come and say hi, i'm about 8 hours from Geilenkirchen.

For better or for worse my assignment was cancelled, my daughter has some allergies and a homangioma (sp) the gaining medical facility was not interested in treating. Instead, I'll leave the family at home and go to Abu Dhabi for a year tax free the proceeds of which I may be able to put in to a paint job. I guess I can go to the F1 race there next year as a consolation prize.
