I decided I wanted some period-looking floor mats for my 240Z. After looking through a bunch of my old '70's car magazines, I found that the only two likely choices were Amco rubber mats, or natural fiber (coco or sisal). Since Amco doesn't make theirs anymore, I started looking into the coco/sisal options.
There are several places you can buy coco mats, but all of the recent reviews and magazine articles I read said that if you want the best, get them from www.cocomats.com. The ones they sell (factory-direct) are handcrafted in Fort Mill, South Carolina, and were said to be much better than any other on the market today.
Well, mine arrived and I must say that while I haven't seen any others in person in many years, the ones I received truly exceeded my expectations - by quite a bit.
I ordered plain black sisal, for the tighter-looking weave. (They offer over 30 color and material combinations.) There are no loose fibers on mine. They have a bonded rubber backing with nubs to prevent dirt from working through and into your carpet, and also to keep them from moving around in the footwell, but they are cut so accurately and full-size that I can't see how they could move anyway. (No chance of them interfering with the gas pedal the way they are cut - no unintended Toyota-like acceleration here.) The heel pad is especially nice - large, well positioned, and not as slick as the typical plastic pad on most replacement carpets. The pad lays totally flat, too. The mats are very heavy duty, they weigh over 7 lbs. (3+ kg) each!
Granted, I haven't had them long, but I'm thrilled with them and heartily recommend them to others.
