  1. SM Needles or other type for 3 screws SU CARBS

I had Z Therapy rebuild my SU's for my 5/71 Z. They have the SM needles. I'm at 5,460ft in elevation so they are a bit rich at low rpm's, but fine otherwise. The camshaft is a DeLong that FAR Performance installed back in '72. Specs are similar to the Schneider. At that time FAR also installed SM needles. Sent from my K88 using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  2. Triple Mikuni thread

This is where I've been ordering jets from. Very responsive and quick shipping. http://www.upgrademotoring.com/index2.htm Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using Classic Zcar Club mobile

  4. Head Removal Problem

For future reference. When I ran into this problem many years ago, I was told to set the engine so both #1 and #6 pistons were down and then stuff as much small diameter rope into #1 & #6 cylinders then hand turn the engine with the crank bolt. I had tried all the ways mentioned, but this was the one that got it off. Sent from my K88 using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  5. Z Car Engineering Development - NEW BOOK

Really good reading. A lot of interesting background information on the development. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  6. Well, the carb tune is done and I'm back home. The engine is an L24 bored .40 over, a Schneider 270/280 (MSA stage 3), MSA header, 2 1/2" exhaust with turbo muffler and twin baffle tips. The Mikunis are 40mm with short ram horns, and K&N air filters. Altitude was about 5400ft (about the same as here at home). Here's the results of the dyno tune: Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  7. Not what I did today, but what I'll will be doing tomorrow. Taking HLS30-23305 to Westminster, Co to have my Mikuni's dyno tuned by Jeff Winter, http://rallye-sport.com/. I obtained the Mikuni's from Madkaw this winter and finally got them installed. Now ready to get them tuned by a pro. Looking forward to the drive tomorrow
  8. Classic car insurance

I use American Modern through USAA. Insured value of $12,000 for one and $18,000 for the other of my 71 240Z's - $343.00 a year. 6,000 mile limitation. I do plan on getting "second opinions" plus, I have to raise the agreed value since their value seem to keep going up since I last set them.
  9. 280ZX vs 280ZX 2+2 transmissions

If you take and multiply the transmission gear ratio by the diff gear ratio you'll see the difference. I run a 4.44 rear diff in one of my 240's using the '83 five speed. With the .745 5th gear this gives me an overall ratio of 3.308. If I used the '79 five speed with the .864 5th gear I'd have an overall ratio of 3.836, not good for street use. In my other 240 I run the '79 5 speed with a 3.90 rear diff. With the .864 5th gear it gives me an overall ratio of 3.369, which is basically what a stock '71 240 with the 4 speed and 3.36 diff has in 4th gear. Attached are some examples of the calculations Sent from my K88 using Classic Zcar Club mobile
  10. Triple Mikuni thread

I was going to do the same as you, but decided to use the longer of the two choke cables on the stock SU's. I used an old assembly and cut the outer casing off just past the mount point on the rear carb and fed the wire through to each of the enrichment assemblies. Works great!
  11. I started the install of triple mikunis on HLS30-23305. Still gathering necessary parts, but the project is started.
  12. Eibach Progressive Springs

I have the BRE/Mulholland springs and struts, as well as the sway bars, on one of my 71 Z's. Installed them originally in 1972. When I was doing the restore on it I managed to find a full set of the Mulholland struts, new in the box. The springs are grey (front) and blue (rear). 14. Vapor lock questions for the hotter climate guys

Another "Old Timers" tip was to add ATF to the gas. I think it was a half quart (pint).
