240Z good for tall people? Hi, I am new here and looking for advice. Early Datsun Z's have always been some of my favorite cars and eventually I hope to buy one. Unfortunately, they are never listed for sale in my area and the last time I sat in or drove one was when I was a teenager. Can anyone tell me if the headroom and legroom are comfortable for a 6' 4" medium build guy with tall sitting height? I don't want to invest time and money on a long distance purchase and find out I don't fit.

Also try craigslist in Florida..... Just pick your nearest city, stop by and test fit the seat with your butt.

One of the things I remember reading about the S30 is the amount of headroom it has for tall people in comparison to other similar little sports cars. I'm only 5' 10'', so I can't say for a fact, but like I said, I've seen it mentioned more than once on this forum that it has excellent headroom for a car it's size.
Now as far as the "medium build," it's a different story width wise. I have pretty wide shoulders and a size 36" waist, and it feels like a tight cockpit when I'm in the car; snug sideways.

One of our club members Wife is 6'4'' and finds the 240z fits just fine. In fact they have two of them. They recently bought a Cad roadster because she finds it equally comfortable.

I have a '73 240Z and I am 6' 4", medium build with a 36" inseam. I fit great! Granted my Corbeau seats have to go all the way back, but nobody will ever complain being behind me, expect maybe other cars.

I'm 6'4" @ 235lbs and fit good in my 240Z. Its a 72 with orignal seats. This is the best fitting car that I have owned. BTW, stay away from 4-runners.

Thank you for all the feedback. That is what I remember from when I was in high school but my comfort standards were much lower back then. Also, I live in the Pensacola area which is closer to Mobile, AL than any of the major cities in Florida. I have been checking local listings for a while.

Of course as soon as I say "they are never listed for sale in my area" one pops up on craigslist:

It's a rust bucket but maybe I will try it on for size.

6'7", 38" inseam. I've spent 10 hours in my Z, driving from Toronto to New Hampshire. This year, I'm driving to Nashville. Awesome car for tall people. Unfortunately, other than the Z31, I haven't been able to fit in any other Z, including the 280Z because of the door handles.

I'm 6' 4" you need to remove the spacers on the seat and you will fit with 2-3" to spare. If you don't remove the spacers you will hit your head a little on hard bumps. You will be fine

I'm 6'2"-6'3" but all torso (normal guy size legs) and 265 lbs...the list of cars i don't fit in is long...I fit fine in the S30's and the Z31 is positively spacious...
Happy hunting...you should be fine...
Nigel, congrats on your first post...see you at the swap meet...Last edited by bigoak; 03-27-2010 at 06:29 PM.

"Back in the day" (early 70's when Z Clubs were all called 240Z Clubs), one
of the clubs I was in had a member 6'10". Bill was a heck of a basketball
player but couldn't advance in that career due to weak ankles.
When I once asked Bill why a guy his size chose a relatively small car like the
240Z, he answered very succinctly, "because it is one of the few cars I can
fit in and stretch out in comfortably."
At 5'9" I found it very hard to relate.

I agree with all above and will also add that I'm 6'-1" with a very tall seated height and I can fit with a helmet. You should be fine.

I'm 6'4" and the Z fits pretty nice. I will say there's something to be said for getting a decent seat with some good support which may mean getting yours redone or swapping in something newer. As for legroom, there's more than enough, the only challenge you may run into is how long your arms are proportionally and how far back you put the seat in order to have legroom plus headroom and still be able to reach the steering wheel comfortably etc.

I'm 6'7'' and only 19 years old. I've always wanted a Z car, ever since i was in grade school. As I kept getting taller though i thought my datsun dream would be gone. But i finally bought a 77 280z, and the way i got my 40 inch inseam legs in the thing was to take the arm rest/door handle off. Whatever it takes to fit into a Datsun though.

Zombie thread alert!
Welcome Datsun Clark. Z cars work fine for tall people as long as you don't try to cage and race them. For the street, all is good.Jeff

This is funny. I am 6' 3" and usually can fit with plenty of leg room - that is until I refurbed my seats with the MSA Seat Foams and Leather Covers. Now I am cutting some of the foam away to get back to the original fit. My brother laughs at me being stuffed in - says I look like "Rat Fink" driving a Z.

I'm 6'4 and fit just fine in mine. Plenty of head/leg room. Might be because the seat cushion is blown out, though... Hahaha
