This is my current project - putting a VQ30 DET into a 1974 260z. zcar project This engine is from a 1999 Nissan Cedric. To put this engine in I have had to remove the exhaust which runs behind the engine and the turbo to fit the engine behind the x-member. Then I will have to have new exhaust manifolds made bringing the turbo in front of the motor. The plenum had to be removed because it was too far off the back of the engine, so a new one will have to be made towards the front of the engine. I will have to make a new x-member and modify the engine and transmission mounts. These are the dimensions: From the back of the water pipe at the back of the engine to the front …

I have a 77 280z with dual SU carbs. I want to get some more power out if the motor and still drive it daily. I wanted to go to an oversized flat top piston, a shaved .080 P90 head, a stage 3 Schneider cam, a forged crank, and a new header. I was wondering what compression I should expect from the motor and could I still run 91 pump gas? Also will the motor run hot I'm running a 3 row 1 inch core aluminum radiator. Lastly could anyone tell me the HP I expect out if this setup. -Thank you

Has anyone done this? And what con-rods will I need? The square bore/stroke is just something I want to do. I know there is no replacement for displacement. I know the L28 strokers are more popular. I have a numbers matching 1970 240z, and want to use the block/head that it came with. I, personally, like the thought of a "square" engine, and thusly plan on building this one accordingly. Any insight or advice would be appreciated. My goal is 240rwhp, not sure its it possible, but thats what I am shooting for. Plans include: L24 block with stock 83mm bore, Ported stock head with bigger valves (if possible), LD28 83mm stroke crankshaft (knife edged), 11:1 compression ratio…

Has anyone here actually installed one of these TWM big throat throttle bodies? What sort of performance gains did you observe? My general rule of thumb is you can't actually FEEL anything less than about a 10 horsepower gain... I have serious doubts, however, about a [claimed] 9% increase in rear wheel horsepower. That would require a 20-30 horsepower gain at the flywheel, and I simply don't a bolt on part bumping the Z's gross horsepower by 30%, unless you COMBINED it with headers, low-flow exhaust, and other bolt-ons. Here's the PR from the recent ad, which I ASSUME was cut & pasted from the Motorsport website... "This is a Motorsport Throttle Body for a fuel …

I am posting this information for reference only. I already sold the Weber carbs with manifold and will be going either Z therapy SUs or Arizona Z 4 Barrel setup. The reason for selling? Just didn't have the skill or motivation to get educated on tuning the Webers. Still up in the air on getting the Top end racing TWM throttle body system. Kinda pricey at 3k minus the ECM. Once I get one of those installed I will get back on the dyno. I think the carbs, canon manifold and the mild porting limited the HP. Did a few chassis dyno runs last month and here is the best pull. 182HP and 189 TQ at max pull at 5800. I also have an O2 wideband installed. The AFR was 13.4…

Hey guys I just wanted to share with yall the strokification of my s30. Here’s what’s happened thus far. Took the Datsun Parts LLC stroker to Ericks Racing Engines. There I had them disassemble the block in preparation for balancing, since I heard LLC just slapps their stuff together like that. Lone behold I find dirt under the head gasket (see attached image)!! I’m having Elias Alaniz take care of the porting. He did a baseline run of both my p90 and n42. At low lift the p90 beat the n42, but the same could not be said twards the higher numbers. Ill post a list of values so yall can check em out soon. So far hes pulled off 208 cfm .550 valve lift 28" of H20,…

Found the 1999 Clifford catalog, all they had for Datsun's at that time were headers, exhaust systems, and cams. Now they have zip specifically for Datsun.

When we got the engine running the other day I noticed a fairly big oil leak coming from the upper front of the engine, about 1 drop per second, after removing every thing to get a good look I can see a crack that almost circles a flange that holds the front of the head to the timing chain cover. I'm sure this is where the oil leak is coming from. Behind where the crack is, is the timing chain galley, so what are my options here to fix this? Weld it from the outside, try and seal a patch of some kind over it from the inside? I'm willing to try anything before removing the head.

Hey everyone, I know you guys are all about keeping things lightly modified or stock. 2 pretty straight questions for what could become a large modification (just to get me started). I was told the engine in my 71 240z is a 260z engine/transmission. Are there any numbers on the block that would tell me what the truth is? Same for the transmission? If it is a 260z, can I bore it to make a 280Z engine out of it (since a 280 is a bored 260, this makes sense, unless i'm missing something)? The end result I want is a carbureted 280Z that runs well and fast with a 5 speed transmission, for as cheap as i can do it (i'm pretty good with a wrench, dad welds, need to hire boring/m…

Your probably all gonna kill me over this:p But I pulled the SU's off my 240z, and put on this Skyline P90 intake on it (I ported the hell outta the intake to match the carb). The carb is a 2 barrel carter I pulled off a dodge 273 and rebuilt. It seems to be running considerably better than my SU's, but with maybe a very slight bit less power. However the SU's could've used a good rebuild, and I'm still tinkering with this setup. Ive still got the choke to hook up and it needs filters and a better fix for a couple of the vacuum lines then Im gonna give it a cold air intake.
