This is my current project - putting a VQ30 DET into a 1974 260z. zcar project This engine is from a 1999 Nissan Cedric. To put this engine in I have had to remove the exhaust which runs behind the engine and the turbo to fit the engine behind the x-member. Then I will have to have new exhaust manifolds made bringing the turbo in front of the motor. The plenum had to be removed because it was too far off the back of the engine, so a new one will have to be made towards the front of the engine. I will have to make a new x-member and modify the engine and transmission mounts. These are the dimensions: From the back of the water pipe at the back of the engine to the front …

Has anyone here actually installed one of these TWM big throat throttle bodies? What sort of performance gains did you observe? My general rule of thumb is you can't actually FEEL anything less than about a 10 horsepower gain... I have serious doubts, however, about a [claimed] 9% increase in rear wheel horsepower. That would require a 20-30 horsepower gain at the flywheel, and I simply don't a bolt on part bumping the Z's gross horsepower by 30%, unless you COMBINED it with headers, low-flow exhaust, and other bolt-ons. Here's the PR from the recent ad, which I ASSUME was cut & pasted from the Motorsport website... "This is a Motorsport Throttle Body for a fuel …

For a great price(a few beers)I have acquired this intake manifold from my friends '76 280z. It was in use before he changed to carbs. He says he bought it from a guy who said he got it from California Datsun. Who knows. What I like about it is it is perfect for deleting all of the rats nest items I plan on deleting along with my engine build. Will the fact that this manifold has capacity to move a higher volume of air affect anything when installing to my P79? I will be using my stock ECM along with stock cam and all EFI componets. https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic17a07b/11-2995 For Use With Our Headers: If you are going to run this Clifford manifold with one of our headers, there will be a small area of interfere between them. Slight modification (grinding) is required to the mounting flange to allow proper clearance. The small amount removed will have no adverse effects on the install, the manifold, or the header. For Use With Other Headers: The manifold will NOT work at all with Nissan Competition Headers, or Hooker headers. Can anyone explain to me please why a performance exhaust header won't work with these ?

I am posting this information for reference only. I already sold the Weber carbs with manifold and will be going either Z therapy SUs or Arizona Z 4 Barrel setup. The reason for selling? Just didn't have the skill or motivation to get educated on tuning the Webers. Still up in the air on getting the Top end racing TWM throttle body system. Kinda pricey at 3k minus the ECM. Once I get one of those installed I will get back on the dyno. I think the carbs, canon manifold and the mild porting limited the HP. Did a few chassis dyno runs last month and here is the best pull. 182HP and 189 TQ at max pull at 5800. I also have an O2 wideband installed. The AFR was 13.4…

Can I use just the outer OE valve spring to get the wipe pattern right? Honsowetz's book uses special "set up springs" that I don't have but I would like the least resistance I can get while doing this. All my lash pads are .190s and I figure I'll do a lot of filing to get them right. Any experience on which to use while doing this would be appreciated. Thanks, Cliff

When we got the engine running the other day I noticed a fairly big oil leak coming from the upper front of the engine, about 1 drop per second, after removing every thing to get a good look I can see a crack that almost circles a flange that holds the front of the head to the timing chain cover. I'm sure this is where the oil leak is coming from. Behind where the crack is, is the timing chain galley, so what are my options here to fix this? Weld it from the outside, try and seal a patch of some kind over it from the inside? I'm willing to try anything before removing the head.

Hi all Does anyone recommend a resource for ported intake exhaust manifold gaskets? I was opening the intake holes on one 240Z gaskets on a spindle sander and I have mixed feelings about the results... I thought I had seen some larger diameter intake exhaust gaskets on the net somewhere but can't find them anywhere now 240Z intake gasket port hole is about 36mm I need to get to 40mm for my specific application... Thoughts? Thanks, -e

Not very pretty but here is the header Z-Ya and I got with the rest of Bob Sharp Racing parts a few years back. The header studs on #1 & #6 are too big so they are hanging there just for the picture. Two 3 pipe collectors with tabs and springs funnel the flow back to the dual trumpets in the rear. It looks more like a prototype than one that was actually used. The welding in some places seems to have been done with old wire coat hangers on very thin metal using a bunch of truck batteries. I have to ask JR Mitchell if this was made at the track in an attempt to get the car back up and running. The #5 will hit the steerin…
