I plan to use this in my 75 280z. The oil gutter was broken, oil leaked out from the shifter. I am in the process of replacing the missing gutter, put on some new seals while I have it apart and examine the bearings and gears. Could use some help on the oil seal on the shift rod.

thought I would start a fresh thread to document my journey on getting a turbo engine to run and perhaps install in my 1975. I say perhaps since at this point my main interest is to learn about turbos, and if I like what I learn I may install but will make sure its reversible since my car is an excellent example of a survivor. So now that all the qualifiers have been stated... as titled its a 1983 i assume based on the P90a head with the hyd lifters. So far all I have done is mount the engine on a test run stand that and I have attached manifolds and EFI for NA testing. I will be swapping out the dizzy drive to use the standard dizzy since that is what i have used on…

This car sat up for a couple of years. I replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, cleaned injectors. I am getting good spark at the plugs. We had it running well several weeks ago. Since then I had to replace the clutch slave/brakes so I could finally drive it. Not it runs like crap. When I hit the starter it fires right up and runs OK for a minute then gets worse then dies. Then it will not start The following systems have been ohmed out and are within spec. Idle Throttle Switch-OK Full Throttle Switch-OK Air Flow Meter Resistance-OK Air Temperature Resistance Sensor-OK Water Temperature Sensor Resistance-OK Air Regulator and Fuel Pump Circuit-OK ECU grounds (4)-OK I al…

I picked up a pair of these half shafts to go with an r200 diff with an OBX. I have found a place that still carries the CV boots but wondering if this is a rebuild that can be done by a backyard mechanic? How the heck do you get into the inner boot? Thanks, Chris

I'm required by state law to install a CC on my 75 280Z. It was removed some time ago by a previous owner. Any idea what it looks like so I start hunting ? Thank you,

I'm slowly obtaining parts for my F54/P79 engine build. The block is all stock, no mods, and the head will be shaved .080 with the appropriate shims/spacers/valves. Stock cam. Not in any rush, I'd rather wait and save money for parts I want than rush it into the car. That being said, I'm beginning to think that my original plan to buy a lightweight flywheel/stage 1 clutch won't be that good of an idea considering the amount of traffic in my area. I use my Z daily in the summer, and while I take it out regularly for open freeway drives when everyone else is off the roads, It sees work commutes alongside Subaru's and Teslas. How light can I have a machine shop m…

F54/P79 with .080 removed from head w/approx 150 miles driven since put back in the road. Bottom end is probably stock, but untouched by myself(no new rings, bearings etc.) I'm trying to determine if my car is running rich, or if I am experiencing ring or valve stem seal failure. There exists an amount of oil consumption that to me, seems high, even for an engine with a fresh head and bottom end that's been sitting for a long time. It will smoke if you rev it at idle. Not under load when driving it (I had someone follow me). It won't smoke at startup either hot or cold. I am pretty well colorblind, it's hard to tell if it's …

Please forgive me if my terminology is a bit off, I'm posting this as I uncover this problem, and my FSM was foolishly wiped with the rest of my computers memory. I took my Z on a drive today, but didn't get far until I heard some evil coming from the rear end. It turns out that my passenger side half shaft (I can never remember if they are technically CV or half shafts) has dislodged itself quite a bit from where it seats in to the differential. I pulled it out. There appears to be no damage, but the question remains... How did this happen? Is there supposed to be some sort of circlip at the end of the spline assembly, in the notched groove? I've never rem…

I wasn't sure if this is an engine or electrical problem so I'll start here. I have a 82 280zx 2+2. runs and drives great, no problems there. There is only one problem that I have been having lately. With motor running, I have never seen my water temperature gauge go anywhere near the middle where it should be. It only goes up a little bit from the 120 mark. The gauge seems to be accurate, the motor never actually get hot, it only get somewhat warm. My heater just barely gets warm, even after car has been running for hours. Any thoughts on this? I was thinking maybe the thermostat is stuck open or something, this car did sit for a couple of years before I got it. I will p…
