Hello, everyone. I haven’t been on here in quite a while. My dad is a regular (diseazd) with 5 amazing s30’s. I have had many Nissans and owned a 72 510 for a few years but have never owned a Z. The S30’s are just too expensive for me and for some reason, over the last few years, I cannot get the Z31 300zx out of my mind. I almost bought one a year ago and then went on to other projects. My original plan was going to be to build a beast L series motor. Bored and stroked to 3.2L with high revs and a goal of 300hp. I quickly realized that building such a motor would likely cost about $12-15k all in. So I started leaning towards an RB20det or RB25det build. I know the …

Hi there, so i bought a Datsun 280zx 1982 that’s been sitting since 1993-isch and I would really appeciate some help to figure out why it doesent start. It cranks but don’t want to fire up. What’s been done: 1. New spark plugs 2. New Oil 3. New gasoline 4. New fuel filter in the engine bay 5. Cleaned the fuel line 6. Cleaned the fuel filter and armature/rails in the tank By this stage It still wouldnt start so I continued: 7. Remove and cleaned the fuel rails 8. Injectors where ultrasonic washed and then cleaned inside with the help of a shot with a hose fi…

Hi all, It's been a while since I posted. Anyhow, my Z has started giving me problems after running pretty good for the last year. This problem started about a couple months ago. One day I got in it and tried to start and it just turned over and over and over and I never heard the sound of ignition as if there was no fuel or spark. Then moments later it fired right up. As the days progressed since then, those moments between not firing to firing right up increased to the point now that it won't fire at all. First off I want to point out that I've done some browsing around the internet for other people having this problem and I have found forum thread of such people. The…

My restoration is finally finished. Now sitting in the show room at Robert's Automotive in Springfield, Illinois. 1981 280ZX Grand Luxury Edition, Manufactured September 1980. I drove it off the car lot on January 12, 1981. Features: Engine rebuild, original paint, original carpet and seats, re-upolstered interior and headliner, re-plated cadmium engine parts and restored wheels. I haven't driven it for almost 24 years. Original miles 25,536 and I have all documentation to back that up. I paid the ultimate price for NOT driving it - an entire engine rebuild. Everything works except the status display in the center of the instrument cluster. (See photo) Need…

82 NA, hesitation during acceleration. Runs fine at highway speeds, intermediate speeds other than acceleration. Car sat for many years and finally back on the road. New injectors, new EGR, 02 sensor, alternator, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel rail, fuel tank, cap, rotor, plugs, wires. Water temperature is normal, vacuum lines are intact. All electric connectors are tight, but some have the 30 year curse on them where the connector boots are deteriorated. ECU light operational (fast blinking). Have not opened up the AFM or changed ignition module. Doesnt seem like a distributor problem, but I'm not an expert. Thanks for any help.

Hello guys! I'm new to this forum and recently new to the datsun world I purchased a 1981 280zx datsun that has been sitting outside a barn for about 4-6 years and since it still had the engine I decided to see if I can get it running before I even consider swapping the same l28e or if I get lucky the l28et. The first things I did was: change the oil, replace the fuel filter flush tank and replace gasoline (regular) replaced battery with terminals flush and replace coolant, spark plug wires (all in correct firing order) change ngk spark plugs (gaped .42 and added oil in each cylinder for lubrication) I cranked it with no…

I have a 81 280zx non-turbo and i always was very interested in putting an rb swap into it about how much money would the swap alone be? Also the kind of parts i would need to completely do it all and do it right.

So, as mentioned in another thread (http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50200-83-280zx-wont-start-wont-fire-just-turns-over/page-4), my Z is doing something weird. I recently had intermittent starting problems and I finally purchased a rebuilt Cardone distributor from Rockauto.com. So far so good it seems to be starting, but I noticed it started accelerating weird. First off, what I experience while the engine is "warming up" is largely different from what I experience after the engine is hot. The below is confirmed as it's happened to me twice. While the engine is warming up: At idle, if I press the gas pedal, the RPMs move up fairly smoothly (as smoothly as they could…

Check it out, the first of 3,000 10th anniversary ZX's on ebay for $35,000 (reserve not met). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1980-DATSUN-280ZX-BLACK-GOLD-1-AE-1-052-MILES_W0QQitemZ300336163505QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item45ed6e2ab1&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245#v4-35 Not only is it the first, it's cherry with only 1,052 miles on the clock! Autoblog has a nice little write up about the Black Gold 280's and their associations, pretty funny.

Here is a tricky one! I'm confident some expert out there might know the answer. I have a 1983 280ZX 2+2....which has the digital dashboard. What I don't understand is that even with the pedal to the metal, the speedometer tops out at 85 MPH. Going downhill, with the pedal to the metal, I should certainly see a readout of higher than 85 MPH. I understand if it was only a two digit LED readout, that technically, it would top out at 99 MPH. Has anyone ever heard of this? Thanks for taking the time to reply.
