Last year we bought a 1978 280z from a neighbor for our sons first car. It had been our neighbors sons car and had sat in her garage for the last 11 years. We've spent the last year getting it road worthy (new fuel lines, relined the tank, new suspension bushings, all new fluids and spark plugs, new tires/wheels, got the lights and blinkers working). Finally went to register and get emissions. And boy did we fail. HC at 977 (limit of 400) and CO at 7.28 (limit of 1.5). Also, the gas cap didn't seal. We knew it was likely to have problems, but seems pretty bad. The previous owner had lived where there were no emissions tests and was a high school kid, so he did a coup…

Yeah ! ! ! ! They finally arrived and some photos are posted ! (A few of many). Heres one of them and a "mock up" of a dual exhaust set up with a couple more. That chrome is SHINEY :classic: Some of you may have seem pics in the classifieds but heres some more once I got the use of this new camera down. I've been waiting on these for months and glade to of got em' now. I put one on Ruby already as a mock up since a new 6-2 exhuast line is going on later, and all that was needed was a 10mm bolt and lock nut on it and it hung on the stock mounting location like a glove I think they came out great More pics at this link below, multiple pics are diffe…

Hey guys, new here. I did a search and still no positive answers, hopefully you can help me out. I have a stock USDM 73 Datsun 240Z and want a Fujitsubo Super EX header/ Legalis-R muffler. Problem is no one on this side or the other side of the pond can figure out if there will be fitment issues. I understand that the header might not work because of the steering rack, but will the muffler work? I have contacted Fujitsubo japan and also many other tuners and no one knows the answer. One tuner did suggest that since it was built back in the 70's that there were no emissions and that should mean that there should be no difference in the mufflers. Thanks

So I finally got around to buying/test fitting the exhaust on my 72 restoration...Seems like some folks in the past have had some issues with MSA's header flange not mating well at the cylinder head, not clearing the steering...exhaust stories are equally as prevalent. After talking with them and hearing about improved design I bought the 6-1 MSA header with ceramic coating along with their new "performance" 2.5" exhaust... As you can see from the pics, they seem to have cleared up a lot of issues. The header has a substantially thicker flange and comes with its own manifold gasket. Test fitting showed some slight warpage over the length of the flange (mine slightly b…

Hey all, I'm once again thinking about exhaust, and I need some info from someone who has the MSA Premium flanged exhaust. I need the length of the longer straight section of the center pipe. Can anyone help me with this?

I know this has been talked about ad nausium but: Having had a couple of different exhausts (spent a good chunk of money on the last one) and heard a few other Z's I can say that the range in sound is quite amazing. I could really use some guidance because it will save me a lot of money-- you see, if I don't get it right, I'm just going to keep trying til I do. Anyone think theirs couldn't sound better? If so, what do you have? I'm looking at a bunch of stuff. I'm keeping my Clifford Research header (dual 3 into 2) but thinking about: merging to a single 2.25 or 2.5 all the way back with Round: Magnaflow Injen 5zigen Supertrap etc. Car is NA with 2.8 and SU's-- mild…

As a follow up to the thread discussing the discontinuation of the Monza period-style exhaust for the 240Z, I thought I would post some info and pictures of some of the various true period and later period-style exhausts that used to be offered for the 240Z. First, a couple of definitions. Back in the '70s, many of these exhausts were offered in sections. You'll see references to front, center and rear sections, as well as complete systems. In general, the rear was the part that replaced the rear muffler, and the center section was from the stock downpipe back to the rear muffler. The center section generally included a resonator, but not always. The front section was t…

Heads up, people. The Monza exhaust system for 240Z is now NLA. Last week it was shown as "not currently available" on Black Dragon's website. Today, it is not shown or listed there at all. It has been missing from the Pacesetter website for quite some time. I suspect that it has been officially discontinued by Pacesetter for a while, and BD has finally 'exhausted' their supply. Unless I've missed something, this leaves only the MSA systems (various 2.5" turbo and the 'twice-pipes") as the only remaining pre-fab 240Z exhausts. A pretty sad state, IMO.

For me that is. I've been battling with this problem for years. In Florida I mainly run with the windows up and the air on so it hasn't been too much of a problem. But with the windows down and during down shifts it was getting pretty bad. I had made all the usual repairs. New weatherstripping, sealed the tail ights, checked for holes with a flashlight, etcetera etcetera. All to no avail. I then came across this post by Zs-ondabrain http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29708&highlight=exhaust+fumes “Here is one thing you can do. Get a smoke machine, a shop vacuum and some cardboard. Cut the card board to fit in the window opening with the window 1…

I am considering on replacing the exhaust system on my 72 240z from the manifold to the tail. I am not interested on headers just something that sounds Racing and gives some additional horses: Is the MSA PREMIUM EXHAUST OKAY?? or is there any better recommendation? Should i also change the gasket that attaches to the downpipe?
