So I noticed black smoke coming out of the car, my first thought is the car running to rich plus the exhaust is actually garbage and the catalytic converter is stock from factory (1978) so I assume the exhaust to be the reason for the black smoke as it is dirty, rusty, and black from the inside, but today I noticed droplets of black liquid, now from what I know this could be condensation+the unburnt fuel= black droplets (cold start), as I have driven the car and have not smelled burnt oil nor seen the oil levels drop. Am I wrong? I will inspect spark plugs to see if they show signs of unburnt fuel due to running rich. Can anyone help with ideas to what it could be? (New e…

Sorry to ask this but i searched and searched and didn't find anything and I can't just go out and measure it off my car since mine is in the body shop. Anyway I few questions I am seeing if I can fit a twin turbo sbc in my z with the stock hood and in between the wheel wells and I need to know the measurements of the engine bay area. The width of the set up is 35" Max and that is toward the front and it is at max 22.5" high from center of crankshaft line and 29" deep with the tallest pullies. In know it all depends on how i position my engine in it but, if anyone has any measurements of any kind this would help a ton!!!! I'm sure with a little tweaking and cutting it…

my 260z will start and turn over a few times but then dies. if i spray carb cleaner it will run longer but die once all is burnt up. i believe that during start up it only uses the mechanical pump, and the electrical pump kicks in during higher revs. The mechanical fuel pump is filled with gas and the carb floats are wet but not full with gas. i checked the carb and E/pump filters and cleaned them. the electrical fuel pump reads about 6.8 ohms and is getting voltage. The only strange thing i have found is there are 30.3 ohms of resistance from the positive side of the fuel sender to chases ground. Any ideas why i cant get the fuel to run? i dont think its the electric pum…

Looking for the following parts or advise from those that have barked up the tree! I have too much free travel in my clutch to allow me to adjust the clutch. The bolt that holds the pedal in place and creates the fulcrum (p/n 46561-21000) and the sleeve that fits over the bolt (p/n 46582-21000) are nla....trying a work around with a bolt I picked up, but it is still not the proper diameter and causes too much free play. Any advice is appreciated. Sent from my [device_name] using http://Classic Zcar Club mobile

I was driving my '71 Z and when I came to a stop and tried to start up, it died. I got it started again and continued. While climbing a hill I was losing power and finally the car died. It would not start and I had it towed home. After a few hours I tried to start it and it would only run with the choke pulled. I checked the carbs and using my hand, found the front one sucking much more than the rear. However when I put my Uni-Syn on them they were pretty closely synched up. The plugs for #4-5-6 looked decent although #6 had a small bit of oil on it. Compression was all over the map: 1-145 2-150 3-82 4-159 5-37 6-65 #5 and #6 would cause low compression and therefore low …

Hey everybody, just for reference, my car has the earlier style SU carbs. When I first bought her I put everything back together and she ran perfectly. I adjusted the main idling screw on the top of the linkage and it idled at 700 rpm smoothly. Then, one day it just started idling between 1500 and 2k rpm. I was going to adjust the carbs but read that if the needle is the issue, leaning out the carbs can mess up the valves. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions where to start due to the random appearance of the problem. Thanks, Austin

Hey everybody, so recently my 240 will shut off instantly when I turn on the lights and the battery is disconnected. They work with the battery connected but since they are running off the battery it sucks it dry. It just started doing this recently. I took the alternator to autozone its good. Battery reading 14 volts with car on. Other recent quirks, liscense plate lights come on with brake lights, and blinkers not working with lights on. Any ideas?

Does anyone know the thread size for the 240Z water temp sensor? I want to update / replace the gauge but rather not change the fitting on the engine.

I really need to replace all of the vacuum hoses on my '72 and after searching the web I can't find all of the hoses (not even MSA). Has anyone used the generic Silicone hose kits or injector/fuel line hoses? I know I won't get the pretty bends, but I'm thinking as long as I keep the arc wide enough I should be fine. Any suggestion on what sizes (I.D.) I'll need? Thanks. - Dave
