Hi Guys, So my car cranks up fine when it is cold sitting overnight etc. After driving sometimes and when engine reaches normal temperature if I park my car somewhere and shut it down, I cannot start it anymore. I mean the starter plunger do not engage, it is getting voltage etc. Once I have let everything cool down it then engages upon start and cranks engine fine. Has anyone seen this issue with the starter? Mine is original which was rebuilt. I have seen similar issue with other car car I have which is a 69. Exact same thing. I have not tried putting a heat shield around it but want to know if this is a known issues.

Putting the front suspension back together. I bought brand new KYB 361002 struts for the front strut tubes. Is it normal to have to drill out the spring isolator to remove the “D” shaped opening for the shock threads to pass through? Pics below showing the issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Driving my car more and more since getting it back together. During the restoration I went through the entire wiring harness, cleaned and replaced many connectors. Reworked the fuseblock tightening all the rivets. I did not take apart the headlight/wiper switch, just cleaned as best I could externally. Upgraded the alternator to internally regulated. When I run the headlights, the fuse gets hot. I am thinking of trying the headlight and parking light upgrade harnesses before considering a new fuse box. I read a few threads and think I have a good handle on the headlight harness. I am trying to figure out how the parking light harness is installed. Is it on the …

During the latest round of EFI issues with my 77, with some help from @Patcon we isolated the fuel delivery problem to the fuel tank. I had cleaned and treated the tank for rust a few years ago. But that apparently didn't work. After dropping the tank I got a few cell phone photos of the inside for confirmation. Lots of rust. We suspected the primary issue is a rusted through pickup tube. Fast forward to yesterday. I took it to a buddy who is a master with a cutoff wheel so he could help me cut it open. We cut just inside the factory weld on the flange, leaving plenty of material to weld it back together later. After getting it open, it's clear that I did …

I joined this group in 2000 and sold my last 240 in 2014. I saved some old parts for some crazy reason. I really thought with the recent increase in Z values that I would never get back into them. So, I moved on to restoring and playing with some other cars. A couple of weeks ago I got an email from an old college friend. We both had 240's in college. He swapped to a vw after his second year in college. He told me that he had parked his 240 in a shed at his parents house in 1986 and never touched it again. He said his parents were moving to an assisted living facility and the car had to go. He lives across the country and doesn't have time to deal with it, and though…

For the life of me I can’t tell if this alternator in my parts bin has an internal voltage regulator or not. No markings on the case unfortunately. How can I know for sure? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

As I plan to keep the car stock, secured these rear tie down hooks from ebay. They seems correct per the FSM to be rear tie down hooks. Left one aligns with the 3 bolt holes I have on the body. The right one #6 seems a bit different than the left. #6 has 3 holes almost vertical in the pic vs the one i received which is a mirror copy of the left. Anyone has them installed?

My car is a 3/72. Originally brown with brown interior. I cahnged the interior to black and have some questions. 1. Rear plastic quarter panels that came out of the car had speaker vents and side emblem vent holes. It had a metal vapor tank. What year did the extra vents start? The black panel in the picture is one I picked up before I knew the differences. It wont fit because of the metal vapor tank. Pretty sure my panels were original, but...... 2. My original plastic rear light panel has the removable squares that are bulging, like what I remember from a 260 (see picture). It is brown, so I am thinking it is original. Did 240's all have the flat part on the …

I am lucky to have the original date coded Yazaki plug and coil leads on my 1970 240Z. So I've started this topic to discuss the details of these on S30 cars, I don't want to limit this to only early cars, as I'm interested in hearing about their evolution over the years. Edit, 6AUG2021, Replaced image and pdf drawing to reflect correct part numbers I have taken detailed measurements to create 3D cad models and a drawing complete with markings. To start here are a few pictures of mine, they are not pristine but the date code and markings can be seen. Here are a few images of the 3D cad model, created with Solid Edge version 2020: …
