I refinished the "Z" hubcaps for my '73 a while back, but some of the center "Z" emblems were in less than perfect shape. One problem is emblems that are cloudy or hazy looking. I've used a couple of Meguiar's products on the front turn signal lenses, side markers and rear tail lamp lenses with great results (#17 Clear Plastic Cleaner & #10 Clear Plastic Polish). On a whim, I decided to try them on the "Z" hubcap emblems. Again the results were great! First step is to remove the emblem from the hubcap. I use a small pick to pry up the tabs on the retainers, then gently use pliers to remove them. Once off the hubcap, I used an old toothbrush and dish soap to tho…

Does anyone know what the correct spark plug wires should be on a 1970 432? Or a contact that would know. Ours currently has some aftermarket ones that are bright blue and do not appear period correct. This car is pretty much perfect besides the wrong spark plug wires. Chassis PS30-00092 Thanks, Justin

I know the 1970 and 1971 240Z's came with a vinyl wrap around the bundle of wires at the right side of the console, perhaps the later models did as well. Recently I was requested to measure and photograph my OE wiring wrap so that a friend could have it reproduced. These photos and measurements may be of benefit to others to also get a wrap made. Note that the center of the wrap is wider than the top or bottom to accomodate the bulge of connectors in the middle of the wiring bundle. There are two darts cut into the fabric edge on each side to form the "curve".

When I bought my '73 240Z, most of the interior parts had been removed and were piled in the rear. After I painted the car I put the interior back together, and I noticed that the horn button would fall off at the slightest touch, even though it seemed to snap into place. Closer inspection revealed a crack in the inner plastic "ring", the one with a groove that is supposed to snap onto the steering wheel, as shown in the first photo. After scratching the old noodle for awhile, and being a DIY type of guy, I came up with a simple fix: it seemed that a tie-wrap cinched around the outer perimeter of the plastic ring would make the horn button stay in place. The second p…

I am now selling the "Parking Light Upgrade Harness" that was mentioned earlier this month. After a lot of research and as far as I can tell, It will work on all 240Z's. If the 260Z or 280Z's headlight switch's plug are anything like the 240's, the new harness might even work for them as well. not sure yet. I'll do some more research on the 260 and 280Z's, but for now, I'm ready to take and recieve orders. And now for the final price, which has the S/H included in said price. After ordering, TAX, assembly labor and every thing else I put into these harness's, the final price is....... $37.00 inside the lower 48 states. The price will obviously be higher if I have t…

I recently completed swapping a four speed manual transmission into my originally automatic-equipped 240Z. I got much of the info to plan this conversion from this site, but found that there was no one thread or article that contained all the information that I needed. So to give back some to the group that has helped me, I decided to try to document the whole process in one place. Disclaimer: While the basic process, theory and parts requirements should be valid for any S30, the exact details of my swap will apply only to my exact situation - installing an early four speed (Type A - F4W71A) into a left hand drive early '71 240Z (10/70 series 1). That said, much of this i…

I have been having an intermittent issue with the 810 shutting off for no reason. Also,it would go full rich and not start on other occasions.I'm partially bald now, thanks to this issue. A tug on one of the wires entering the ECM would make the car start. So i went thru the connectors and all related stuff.STILL would shut off.At this point the wife is vacuuming hair out of the car on a daily basis. Then i got the idea to take the ECM apart. And i found bad solder joints. In the pics you can see a row of solder joints(Xacto blade is pointing to them)Three of them were bad.The blades run thru the side of the box and then make a 90 degree turn and "land"on a circuit board.W…

After a request as to where the 500 megs of Z car stuff went to. I upgraded the link to my new IP. After the change was made I checked to see if it was working, and it was. After a couple hours and a reply or two the entire thread just disappeared. So with out further adoo (Or something like that) here it is. Over 800 megs of Z stuff

I thought I would post this up here instead of burying it in my build thread. Does any one have ideas on how to bench test a brake booster? I have an assortment of 5 or so small boosters. I would like to bench test them to see if any of them are good. Then restore the best candidate Thoughts?

Troubleshooting electrical problems on older Z's is often an art. Schematics, such as the Haymes manual are good clues, but often not exact. I thought I'd post a help note for those trying to fix brake light problems as I recently did on my 72. The circuit for the brake lights is more than just power though the brake switch at the pedal. The brake lights share function with the hazard switch as well as the individual left and right turn signals. Therefore, the circuitry involves routing through the hazard switch as well as the turn signal controller. Power for the brake lights is direct from the battery (it is not gated by the ignition/accessory key) through a 20A fus…
