Hi Folks, Love the site. Great info! Did a lot of searching so not to waste anyones time...but. No luck yet. My Name's JR. I am actually working on this 1976 280Z for a customer of mine. I own a shop that does mechanical resto work on classic cars here in upstate NY. I do love the Z cars and this guy has been to 3 other shops with no help, so I volunteered..How hard could it be right? On to the problem. He had a no start, no spark condition when I got it. Figured I needed spark first. Found a bad distributor, Great! Got a new one from Z car source. Now I have great spark, Still no fuel pump. Jumpered pump, (Newer replacement) works fine. Downloaded FSM, started trouble…

Last weekend I had trouble with water in my fuel tank, so I started cleaning the fuel system and did some other checks while I was at it. The engine had developed a hesitation and sometimes backfiring. The fuel pressure was ok so did some further checking of the throttle switch and the AFM using the EFI Bible. The throttle switch checked out ok, but the temperature sensor in the AFM was measuring 4ohms. According to the manual is should be reading about 2500ohms at 20degreeC:disappoin As a temporary fix Ive fitted a 2250ohm resistor to simulate 20degrees C. We are having a very mild winter here atm. I don't think the sensor is available anymore, if it ever was available. …

I just got my Datsun back on the road for spring and I notice while in 3rd and 4th around 4100rmp it feels like there is a rev limiter on the car and is doesn't wanna go past 4100-4200 rmps. it doesn't happen in 1st or 2nd and if I ease into it, it sometimes doesn't happen in 3rd. the car is running strong though so I don't really think its anything mechanical. if anyone has any input I'd greatly appreciate it. thanks!!

Hi all, The weather we have been having here in Europe has been excellent for driving the Zed. Yesterday we were driving around and the engine develop a hesitation. It lasted about 10 seconds at different rev ranges. On the way back home it started getting worse and a couple of km from home it stop all together. I managed to roll of the road to a sort of safe place and opened the hood to have a look. The engine would start or give any sign of life. My wife cranked the engine and I checked for spark. I did, so the problem was something other than ignition. We were not far from home, so I called a friend to tow us home:bulb:. No point trying to fix it there on the side …

I found a good hose at a junkyard. But do I need it? I put some screening wire around the opening and the clamp to keep the squirrels out. I'm hoping to gain at least 20Hp like all the K&N people claim. :stupid:

i've read a ton of threads on the hot-start issue and the general consensus seems to be it's a lean condition due to heat soak, vaporized fuel, hot injectors, low fuel pressure, etc. this all makes sense, but my experience is of an overly rich condition and it even fouled all my plugs. the background: '78 280z, 3rd owner, PO had it for 30 yrs as garaged DD. when i bought it i thought it ran pretty well (first z car, so i had no idea what it could really do). found leaky heater hose in cabin, flushed system and found much rust. replaced all coolant hoses, big and small throughout including heater hoses. then turned to electrical: moved engine bay relays into cabin and re…

In chasing down Air Flow Meters to test/calibrate with HellFire I ran across locally a pile of distributors, maybe 20 or so. The problem is that the man who owns them doesn't know Datsuns & these are ostensibly from 280z's, zx's, possibly Datsun Roadster. I was short on time when I was picking up the AFMS so didn't have time to look at them closely, but there were at least a few 77 280s in the pile as I recognized them. Most seemed later with different types of electronic pickups, a few were points. Most I didn't recognize what model, but I've never payed any attention before on they style changes over the different years and models. I would like to buy several of th…

Hello All, I thought I'd start a new thread to get some feedback on my ZFuel project. To recap, I began a tuneable LJet ECM replacement long long ago in the early 90s, stalled out due to life/growing business, and then rekindled it last year when my son was driving a 77 280. He went away (along with car) to college, so again I stalled on development. I'm glad to say that I have the car back now, and I'm excited about getting this unit off the drawing board and into the garage. I think at the rate that AFM's and ECMs are aging, it's long overdue. Here is a quick overview: Standard Features -100% drop in replacement for stock (should be a 10min install - pull kickplate, ecm…

Im buying a 240z that is getting rust in the fuel from rust that is in the fuel lines, the old tank has been replaced and now the rust that got built up in the lines is working itself out. How big of an issue is this going to be?

I've got my 77 EFI fuel pump torn apart and when I put it back together, I want to use new O-rings to seal the rotor section. Anyone know the sizes that are used there? Are they available as a replacement part? I looked through the parts docs and I couldn't find an exploded view of the fuel pump. I'm thinking they aren't available separate? I measured the old ones that came off, but they're deformed from over thirty years of service. They are no longer round, nor are they circular in cross section. By this time, they are oval in cross section, and are shaped like the groove they came out of. However... Doing the best I could, I get 33mm ID and a 2mm cross section? I know …

Been gone for awhile and took the Z out the other day just for grins in the balmy 45° weather. Couple of issues, 1. it still runs very rich, lots of black soot from the exhaust and on the plugs. 2. after driving for awhile 10-20 minutes, shut her down and went to the store, came back out and started her up and the idle went to 1800 and very slowly dropped back down to normal. Things I've done in the past 6 months; adjusted the AFM to the lean side(ccw) 8 notches, new AAM, Cold start injector, injectors replaced about 500 miles ago, new FPR, new fuel lines, new filter. Probably some other stuff that I can't remember. Fuel pressure is right on. The rich running has been an…

I have a fuel injected 78 280z with a performance cam. It starts and runs great, and accelerates and cruises smoothly while cold. But after it warms up a bit the throttle is jerky. When making very tiny changes to the gas peddle (just to maintain speed), the throttle jerks on and off. Its great while accelerating or decelerating but just doesn't maintain a steady cruising speed without jerking in and out. This is very obvious at 50 mph or less but doesn't seem as pronounced at highway speeds. Maybe a Throttle Position Sensor? Air Flow Meter? Vacuum Leak?
