What seemed like a good idea at first gets complicateder and complicateder. I had a raodster 5 speed modified to fit my early '70Z. The rally gears in the five speed are pretty sweet and the shifter doesn't hit the dash. Now comes the problem. The original driveshaft from the 240 was used with the new tranny. A rear flange was put on the front ujoint, replacing the originat slip joint. Perfect fit, except now the lack of slip has knocked some bearings out of the tranny and I suspect the diff may not have been helped much. The drive shaft guy wants about $500 to put a slip joint in the drive shaft. Does anyone know what the driveshaft on the roadster looks like. W…

Greetings! I fairly recently purchased a '71 240z series 1. I am in need of a brake cable/ebrake. I checked underneath the car and the cable is snapped on the rear brakes. I am pretty sure the ebrake and brake cable for the rear brakes are the same cable correct? I am located in Southern Oregon. If anyone has this part I would be happy to purchase it as a reasonable price. Location is not really a factor. Regards, Brooks

Hi, If you have one or can suggest where I can purchase one it would be appreciated. Assuming it is the same as the passenger's door, it has 4 coils. Thanks, George

I'm going to do a 5-speed swap to replace the auto in my '73. I found a '77 280 with a 4-speed at the local Pick-N-Pull and I took the clutch and brake pedals along with all the hydraulic stuff. I quickly checked my 240 the other evening and it looks like the pedal mounting is different than on the 280. Can someone confirm this. Do I need pedals from a 240 and not a 280? I hope not becuase it was a pain getting those darn things out !! Thanks

I have a 1971 240 which came with factory air. The AC compressor was removed by the previous owner for performance reasons. I live in metro Phoenix and the car is basically unusable during the summer months without the AC. I have access to an AC compressor out of a 1976 280Z. Will I be able to use it?

Ok.. finally I am going to get my 1978 280Z within days now.. as soon as my parents get a baby loan. But anywho.... If I wanted to put in a turbo into my L28, can I use an turbo exhuast manifold from an 280ZX and simply put it into my older 280Z? I know that i would have to get an intercooler and turbo and down-pipe... but would I have to get different injectors and pitons and stuff? or would the engine be safe with just putting on an ZX turbo exhuast manifold, turbo and intercooler and ZX downpipe?

Hello, I just ran into a fellow that has a wrecked '81 280zx 2+2 with a P79/F54, 5 Speed Transmission, and R200 Diff. Motor only has 60 thousand miles on it. I'm about to pluck the motor, and the transmission, but am wondering about the differential. Can I just use my shafts right in it, or will I have to take the ones off the ZX? Regarding the electrical ignition system in it, what more would I need than the distributor, coil, ignition module? Is there something else on these motors needed? edit: http://webpages.sdsmt.edu/~1014532/index2.htm is a few pics of the nasty beast

Hi all, I know that this has been covered here, but there are too many conflicting answers. Thanks in advance for your patience! First of all - Is there a "best thread" out there that details a full 280ZX L28/5 speed swap into an early (2/'71) 240? If so, I could use it as a resource rather than ask a bunch of questions going forward. I am picking up the donor ZX this weekend and will be swapping the '83 drivetrain into the 240 to get it running. If all goes well, I will have it on the road by the end of June! I will be running my SU's with the L28. Here are my questions about the 5 speed swap... 1 - Will I need to cut the shifter area on my 2/'71 240 to accomodate…

I got 71B 5 speed bellhouse from one of my friends. I decided to move onto 240SX transmission swap into my 280z. First of all, bellhouse comparison. It looks like there are several different 71B bellhouse with a bit different pattern. This is my original 71B 4speed. It's written "L2" This is the 71B 5speed bellhouse I got. It also written as "L2" This is 240SX 71C bellhouse. It written 71B... with some animal? I found some pic in internet that is written 71C for 71C bellhouse.

Found these review mirrors on eBay: Here Got them for Christmas, thought they looked like they were made from crappy cheap plastic (probably are, I mean the name on the sticker says Phanton when I'm guessing it was supposed to say Phantom) Lots of flashing made them look sort of bad as well, I thought. I took a razor, cut off the excess flashing, sanded down where I cut. Then I sanded the whole of the exterior, cleaned with acetone (which seemed to react with the plastic once the outside was sanded off) and rattle canned in flat black to match the rest of my nearly finished matte black car that I'm currently finishing the wrapping of (in vinyl).\ I think it looks pret…

I broke down today and bought a '73 for parts. I have a $250 deductable and windshield to be replaced; my "new" 73 has a perfect windshield and for $300, I got it delivered. Has a very nice 13" GT type steering wheel with Nissan badge. I'm figuring it came from one of the 90-96 300Z's. (My 77 wheel is mush). Has 4 excellent condition black mesh BBS-style wheels w/ polished aluminum "rings". Have Z emblem on center cap. Bonnet is perfect. I've been wanting to replace my 77 vented w/ plain bonnet. Is this a cooling issue w/ fuel injected engines? HAS 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION:D This is a HUGE bonus, and the main reason for the purchase. Car doesn't run currently, s…
