I've been prompted to start a new thread on this subject after reading - for what seems like the thousandth time - somebody describing the OEM steering wheel on a late 1970 production HLS30UV as "Plastic". No. The OEM steering wheel on the '1969 through 1973 production S30-series Z was WOOD. Real wood. They were manufactured for Nissan by specialist Izumi Motor Co. Ltd, based in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Izumi made a wide range of steering wheels for Nissan, as well as selling their own aftermarket 'sports' stering wheels with a cheeky 'Izumi' engraved script which aped Nardi, one of their inspirations. I'm sure Mr Fred Jordan is a very nice man with the best of intentions, but he could perhaps have been a little better prepared for this interview:

Is it true that this is just what they wanted to call the 240-280's when they came to the U.S. or is the Fairlady a specific year and model. (Sorry for the dumb question, but I've been wondering.)

I heard from my mechanic who has worked on Z's since their conception, and he was saying that of the 1972 240z's only 1500 were made with the white body and a red interior. Seeing how I am the owner of one I was wondering just how valid this statement is. It's due for a paint job and I was considering going silver to compliment the red interior, however if its one of only 1500 made, I may reconsider and just repaint it the original 904 white. thanks all.

I saw this on Foxnews.com: http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2012/04/14/10-worst-car-names-all-time/?intcmp=features Fairlady came in at #9. I always thought that was a strange name, but then I'm not Japanese.

Hi people, I was just wondering what info and pictures were available of the '69 Tokyo show in which the z432 made it's debut. for example any claims of what orders/purchases were made that day? and general response and write ups to the z432 from the show. was it the star or upstaged by another? any archive pictures would be great. thanks in advance
