I just finished the engine build, but I believe the body would need more attention and $ than I am willing to spend. If anyone has a good, solid shell they want to sell please contact me. Interior floor pans, ect, must be intact. I'd prefer a good roller and just swap my drivetrain into it. And interior would be nice as well. I'm just looking for anything right now, and have cash in hand.

Hello,

I own a 71 240z and the L24 is in need of a rebuild. As luck would have it, I came across a 1984 maxima at a junkyard that had the high quench N47 head. Since this head had many of the things I would need to do to the e88 (steel valve seats, high quench design for detonation resistance, EFI notches, etc) that it would be a better starting point.

Since L24 builds have fallen out of fashion there isnt much info on building them specifically. While researching i came across HS30-H's information on a High Po L24 that was slated to be used in a high performance model S30 that was never released.

http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/o...dy-z432-3.html

Are the specifications on this motor available?

I was thinking that this information would be a good guideline and starting point for my build or anyone building an high compression L24 as Nissan was able to build these up 10.5:1 comp ratio and have them ready to sell to the general public. Info on things like combustion chamber shape and size, cam specs, carb specs, etc would be helpful.

HS30-H also said that many of these parts were built and sold under Nissan's "sports options" label. Do any of these catalogs or brochures still exist?

Thank you for all your help.

They look very similar in shape and i already have a 79zx high pressure line and dryer on my s30.

Steering Wheel - 300ZX / 240SX Wheel Into First Gen Z

The steering wheel on my 280 has seen better days. The foam along the top started to degrade like they all do, and the whole wheel was squishy, especially when hot.

The steering wheel on my 280 has seen better days. The foam along the top started to degrade like they all do, and the whole wheel was squishy, especially when hot. I looked into options and finally decided on a wheel from the 90 300ZX. This wheel was used on the first year 90-96 Z (the only year without an air bag) and also on a couple years of 240SX.

Why this wheel? Because I wanted something that "looks like it belongs". I didn't want a fancy multi-colored racing style wheel or a small quick turn go-kart wheel. I wanted something that looked "right". "Appropriate." Something that could be mistaken for factory. And as a bonus... It's still a Z wheel:

There were several hurdles in getting this thing to fit the old Z, but the biggest challenge is that the spline design is different and the new Z wheel doesn't fit the old Z steering column. I made new hub with correct splines, cut off the original 300ZX hub, and welded on my hub in it's place. Here's the hub I made. Aluminum test piece on left, steel real piece on right:

Back of 300ZX / 240 SX wheel:

Cut off original hub:

Welded my hub on. I'm no welder, but it's secure. Note the two prongs to cancel the turn signals:

Bottom line? The results are fantastic! Overall size is almost identical to stock as is the distance from the driver. The leather grip portion is firm and much thicker and meatier than stock which feels much better to me than any of the first gen wheels. Was a lot of work, but I'm very happy with the results.

I'm doing a cosmetic refresh on my neighbor lady's 72' 240Z w/ automatic transmission. Only a little more to do and it's ready for the road.
__New paint.
__New seat upholstery, vinyl panels, carpets, door seals, etc.
__New Battery

What's left?
__Get engine running, (ignition problem)
__Install tires on four-slot mag wheels, (from my car).
__Install rear louvers. (1970's style)
__Obtain / install new front bumper guard pads.

Once it's driving, she want's to drive side-by-side down 280 with a chase car taking pictures of the two Z's.
Later this Summer, we also plan to display our cars at a local car event. Should be fun!

Previously, someone told me to look on the end of the cam on my L26 engine, for a 'c'.
apparently this cam had some different characteristics that would effect performance levels.

well i had the chance to adjust valve lash the other evening and while i was in there i investigated the stamping on the end of the cam.
It is stamped 'B' or 'D'.(letter is very lightly stamped so it's hard to identify, but i'm pretty sure it's a 'B'

anyone have info on what this cam is and how it performs in comparison to others?
thanks for any help
