Recently E-Bay decided to change the way of the "My e-Bay" page. They've added new features and "color"! See the screen shot attached.
Look in the lower left corner of the "Welcome to your summary page" section. You'll see a little checkbox that plainly says: "Don't show this again".
Now, I've tried several different methods to check that little box and try to get the page to "accept" the checked box, to no avail.
I finally wrote eBay's Customer Service Help Desk and posed the following question:
"Question Text
Has anyone figured out how to get the "Welcome to your summary page"
banner to accept the checked "Don't show this again" box and effectively
NOT SHOW UP AGAIN?
I've tried numerous things and the darn thing keeps coming back!"
This was their reply:
"Dear Enrique,
Thank you for writing eBay in regard to your eBay summary page.
I understand your concern about your summary page, as you don't want
'Welcome to your summary page' to be displayed.
Enrique, I would suggest you to close this window by clicking on 'x' on
the right-hand side of that window.
This will help you not to view 'Welcome to your summary page' on your
eBay summary page.
It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing eBay.
Sincerely,
Dallas P.
eBay Customer Support"
To which I had to reply:
"Dear Dallas P.:
Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately, I am not a moron so this did little to answer the question I posed.
I DO know how to close using the "x" on the right hand side of the window. However, this will do absolutely nothing about stopping the "Welcome to your summary page" banner and instructions from showing up the NEXT time I log on.
My question revolved how to KEEP IT FROM COMING BACK AFTER CHECKING THE "DO NOT SHOW THIS AGAIN" CHECKBOX, since apparently someone there forgot to program the page to accept the little checkbox or any other way of getting the banner to recognize that it was checked.
Thank you though for suggesting I just click the "x". In the future, when I want the "Welcome to your summary page" banner from NOT showing up during ONE session, I will gladly follow your suggestion, knowing that it will come back for my next section.
This is obviously such an important reminder that it must be displayed each and every session, regardless of the "Don't show this again" checkbox which implies that I have a choice as to whether it appears or not.
In the future, before you answer a question, I suggest you read the WHOLE question and not just pop off with the first thought that pops into your head.
Sincerely,
Enrique S."
And we wonder why people say Customer Service is non-existent.

Dear Enrique,
Do you know I have power over your account, do you know what would happen if i were to check the x on my screen? You don't want to make me angry, you wouldn't like it if I get angry.
have a pleasant day,

Hi Enrique,
IF... I remember correctly, up on the top right of the screen, (or there abouts) is an "opt out" link . I think this is how I killed it?!
Good luck with it.

The box you are showing in your attachment is not the one I checked. I followed the link on the right side of the page and changed the My Ebay page back to the old format by clicking the box. It never came back. Who knows, maybe later they changed the opt out page and screwed it up. It can be frustrating trying to get your point across, even if you are lucky enough to get a real person to respond. Take two aspirins and try again in the morning.:)

E, I had the same page pop up about a week or so ago. I didn't like it at all either (then again, I have not liked any of the changes that eBay has been making of late).
I clicked on the "opt out" located on the upper right. It went away and I haven't seen it since.

I concur with the comment that the last few ebay page "upgrades" have been horrific. The first time it happened I was very unhappy until I noticed the opt-out button. Same for the ebay Motors page changes. Leave my pages alone! After 10 years I have it exactly the way I want it.
I've just about written off eBay completely. It's not worth the effort.
That said, I checked the "Do not show again" box, and THEN I clicked the notorious X in the right corner. Haven't seen the Welcome since. That may be what the support person was trying to convey, but if so, he/she did a terrible job at it.

Maybe the point isn't as obvious as I thought it was.
I don't mind the changes, I DO mind that the banner is, as shown on the attached screen shot, irremovable.
I've tried the additional suggestions mentioned, but they all essentially say one thing --- opt out.
Arne, I've tried what you did, to no avail.
As I stated on the first line of my reply to Customer Service, I'm not a moron, I HAVE tried numerous, various, and different combinations, permutations and the big instruction banner keeps coming back. The option to opt-out is always there, but other than that recurring banner, I don't have a problem with the change.
Darrel, thank you as that is part of the reason for posting this. If such a thing does happen to my account, then the "record" will show that after 7+ years of trouble free use... suddenly I have problems. If I have any problems because of it, this record will serve for any litigation involved.
The other part of posting this is simply to point out to what level the "service" portion of their Customer Service really extends to.
I found it relatively funny.... to an extent.

Is it possible that the setting is stored locally as a cookie and you are somehow blocking it?

Nope, as I allow cookies from there, and this site.

Perhaps the ebay customer support staff has some motivation issues.
Enrique, have you tried all of this from one computer or from several?
How about different browsers? Perhaps it's and IE eccentric issue (or Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc.).

Haven't tried from another computer. I don't normally access my e-Bay account from other computers. I'll have to see if that changes anything.
Did just try Mozilla, same thing.
The key thing is that when you click on the box, NOTHING shows up within that box to get it to accept the choice. If you "customize", it stays gone UNTIL you apply or cancel, then it returns. If you key the X in the upper right with or without checking the don't appear box, it disappears until you come back to the summary page. That's the reason I asked their CS dept.
Thanks though

Ok, I just signed in to eBay for the first time in a long time and got the problem page. In FireFox I tried to click "Start Customizing" and it wanted to download an ISAPI dll file. I switched to IE, clicked "Start Customizing" and then simply hit apply without actually changing anything. At this point the summary thing went away and I can't get it back. It's also now gone in FireFox so it must be a server-side setting tied to my account.

Mike
Did you click the "don't show this again" box?

I did check the box but the close button didn't work which is why I went ahead and clicked on the "Start Customizing" link.

Enrique, I am having the exact same problem. I sent a message to CS, we will see if they bother getting back to me...
I have tried in both FF and IE in a variety of ways. The box keeps coming back...

I actually got it to go away by clicking start customizing and I changed one minor detail, like the color, and after that I never saw it again.

Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but all I did was click on the link at the top of the page, labelled "return to the original ebay motors page" and everything went back to the way it should be- unchanged.
Worked perfectly for me, on my Macs. I dunno...
ebay's html coders might have made a mistake with the check boxes too. And, btw, the responses to customer service inquiries are ALL from keyword-seeking robots. There is no "Dallas P."
It's almost IMPOSSIBLE to get through to an actual human. If it's a real big problem for you, please PM me and I'll tell you what to do, because if I do it in the open thread, it will cease to work. (I'll be back in 3 hours)

Heh,
It took me a while to remember my Ebay password, almost as long as it took to remember my account name.
My latest feedback is from January of 2007. I guess it has been a while since I wasted any money over there...
Oh, and I can't get the stupid customization message to go away either.

Interesting how some consider it a waste of time (or call it worse, yet) to buy on ebay, yet over my 10 years there, I have saved literally thousands of dollars. I bought everything from socks to a boat, from Z parts to jeans, shoes and sneakers. There are some startlingly-good bargains to be had there. There is no boundary to what I won't buy there now- from a brand-new Z steering wheel for $25 delivered, to rare, classic NOS Nike's for $15- just 2 of the latest examples. Not only money is being saved- but uncountable hours of shopping and driving around from store to store, as well. With the proper homework done, there is very little risk. I've been ripped of exactly once in all this time- and it was my fault for not investigating further.
These days who can afford to waste time or money?
Like every shopping venue, there are pitfalls to be navigated, lessons to be learned and benefits to be had. If you know exactly what it is that you want, know exactly what the current market pricing is for what you're looking for- so you don't get caught up in buyer's frenzy and overpay, then it is possible to save some very real money buying there, and to bring in some serious cash by selling.

eBay can be dangerous, if you aren't aware of the pitfalls.
eBay can be perfect, if you are aware of the pitfalls.
You can find pitfalls at your local swap meet, or at the local "all club" event.
When you're looking for those rare bits and pieces.... you check all the possible places. I once bought two brand new Z wheel chocks (the folding kind) at a garage sale for $1 each. They were still in the protective greasy paper bag. I just recently scored a 67 Roadster ignition switch with the prancing lion key for under $40. Some people pay big $ for just the key and have their switches re-keyed to match. Then there are those who would take advantage of that.
To me, eBay is like a big garage sale. There are items that are over-priced, and others that are under-valued. The trick is in knowing how much YOU are willing to pay for it and not exceeding that. A pair of original fog lamps for the Roadster just recently sold for more than $1,400 US dollars ... from Australia. I found an almost exact duplicate pair for $75.
Some users get caught up in bid fever and forget what they're there for. Others bid an amount and walk away, sometimes just a few cents over the opening bid and other times for big $. Some people do actually win at the opening bid, and others get it cheaper than they were willing to spend.
I just bought a seal kit for the Roadster at roughly half price of what it would have cost from one of the vendors. I might have found it at the same or slightly cheaper from one of the Nissan dealers, but lately that's been difficult to do around here thanks to one jerk who got everyone's access to that discontinued. I did this without getting up from my desk.
But as far as the banner, believe me guys, I've tried some wickedly different things trying to get it to disappear... and it hasn't yet. But maybe we'll get an answer or one of these days it will magically disappear as this latest change appeared.
