Hi Everyone!
Seems in the past year or so, a bunch of us on the 240z list gave a brief bio., so we all were more familiar with one another.
Anyone wanna join in? Here's me:

Married, 4 kids. own 2 Z's, a 73 and a 74, and am always looking to add to my collection! Have owned a Z since 1993, having wanted one since i was about 7 years old.
Well, that's enough off the top of my head- feel free to share whatever you like...Zya

I'm Frank, 33 with an 8 month old girl. Work in the financial research industry.
Had a '70 240z years (and years) ago. Wrecked when an unlicensed driver made a left turn in front of me.
Had a '91 240sx that was later traded in for a '90 Twin Turbo. Love that car. My dad has it now and we are thinking of selling it.
Working on finding a 240z again to Autocross and take to some track outings here in California and Nevada. By the way I live in Central California.
Hey, Zlish, maybe I'll see you out there soon!

Might as well let people know who the "the mouth of the south" is.
My name is Keith. I just hit the big 4-0, never been married, no kids (yes, I'm quite sure of that) and have one very spoiled Sussex Spaniel as my favorite companion.
I bought my first Z-car about 1982 or 83 (a while ago), it was a 73 240 that I sold to a friend of mine who raced it in ITS will he totalled it. I bought his wife's old 1975 280 in 87 and started racing it in ITS in 89. I retired the car in 94 when my father was diagnosed with cancer and haven't raced since he passed away in 95.
He always said I had too d--n many Z's around here so hence my username.
Right now I have a 1971 series 1 that I am restoring, and I still have my old 280 sitting here. I also have a 72 240 ITS car (wrecked, but may be fixable) and a 72 240 parts car. I think I still have an old 76 280 out in the woods behind a friends house I bought for parts too. So I guess that means I have had 8 Z-cars total and still have 5, more or less.
I drive tractor trailer for a US mail contractor, and have driven in 39 states and 2 provinces of Canada in the last 18 years. My daily driver is a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500. What else would a truck driver have but a diesel?

Hi! My name is Dale. I am 37 and the Stepfather to three kids (All out of the house now) I own a retail plastic model shop in Santa Rosa, CA .
I am on my third '73 240z if you count the one I learned to drive on. Just got this green one in Dec. I know most everyone thinks the '73 carbs are junk, but I have had no problem with mine and even whipped a few local Z's with my last stock '73. I am thinking of getting another 240Z for my daughter. Currently trying to keep my '64 Ford Galaxie from spewing oil all over the ground.

Hello all:
I'm 26, and just got married last summer (no kids).
I'm a grad student in hydrology at UC Davis.
Current Z project: troubleshooting engine problems in my 1970 240Z. Working on the 240 is an excellent distraction from my classes and thesis project.
Also, I have a '74 260Z that I have to decide what to do with. It is rapidly becoming the parts car for the '70 (one more bolt won't hurt, etc etc.)
My first car was a stock '79 RX7, but only because I couldn't find a Z at the time.
Thanks to Mike for all of his great work on the website and mailing list.
Cheers,
Steve Winter

45 yrs, Married no kids (We're DINK's).
I'm International Sales Director for my company, my wife is Manager of a Liquor Store (Sorry guys, no discounts for us either).
Bought my 71 240Z AT last summer for my mid-life crisis. Figured everyone else claims one, so what the heck, I'd start now and see what else I can think of.
Born in Mexico, have lived in Mexico, Venezuela, Chicago, Spain, back to Mexico, Iowa, Michigan and now Washington State. Studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Iowa, 7 years enlisted in the US Air Force. Fluent in Spanish, English, French, Portuguese (Brazilian), (Well actually more like Portunish or Spanguese if you know what I mean).
Worked as a Body man for two years before entering the service  which is where I learned how to fix and paint cars. Maintained skills in the AF by helping friends do their cars real cheap.
Do some computer programming in Access and a dash of Visual Basic (learning).
Type about 120 wpm and I like to talk, which means I sometimes have long posts :o  ) and I have a real crazy warped sense of humor LOL ROFL !
Fell in love originally with the Jaguar XKE when I was 12 yrs old, then I found out how much they cost  ! Several years later, saw my first Datsun 240 and at first I thought it was a smaller Jag  (Lived in Mexico at the time and the car wasn't imported there.). Then I found out what it was and wanted one. Then I found out how much it cost, and although better than the Jag, still too much for me  .
So many years later, I almost begged this Colonel to let me restore his, and was rewarded with at least being able to drive one while I worked on it. But I promised myself to get one as soon as I could... and I did... bout a dozen years later!
So, my apologies up front to all for the length of my posts, my bizarre sense of humor, and rambling ways, but I will try to answer your questions on subjects that I know about, if I don't know I'll either NOT answer or tell you what I've heard. Please feel free to correct, scold or boo. Personal insults accepted after payment received through PayPal, note it is a sliding scale and Eat Sh*t! is currently going for $50 and it goes up from there. :finger: Bulk discounts available.
Anyhow, I use escanlon which is short for Enrique Scanlon, and I live in Vancouver, Washington. (Yes the AMERICAN Vancouver, and No, not D.C.)

G'Day all,
I'm a New Zealander living abroad for 10 years now all spent in England except for 2 years in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (crazy place).
Owned a 72 Datsun 1200 coupe imported from Japan in NZ. Had a mini cooper before that and hated it, I think the Japanese took the mini engine and refined it to make the A series. Never used a imperial socket set since (thank goodness). Next door neighbour in NZ had a 240Z when I was in my early teens.....never stopped wanting one yet.
Married with one 2 year old and another due in May (you soon forget those sleepless nights:sleep:
Heading back to NZ in September where a 240Z will be the last addition to our family. So I'm just collating as much info as I can before deciding the best route to go before modifying it.
Cheers...James

Name here is Lars, I'm 27 , living in a place called Aalborg in the North of Denmark. I live with my girlfriend,a 7.5 kilo  Cat and I teach Web design ,Macromedia Flash/actionscript and Director/lingo for a living.
Have always loved cars in general and fell in love with a Z I noticed about 12 years ago. about 1.5 years ago I decided that I needed to do something with my spare time ,that has nothing to do with a computer or I would go Crazy. Bought an absolute wreck of a 71' Z - took it to pieces and am currently slowly rebuilding.
Right now it is in "primer" grey but still just a shell - all the rust is gone - engine has been rebuilt and I'm getting ready to do the suspension ect. It is sloooowly beginning to look like something that, just might become a car again. Anyway it's not the destination, but the journey I value most :D
Enough of my ramblings:tapemouth
Thanks for a great site!

Well, I guess it's my turn.
I just turned 30, 1 wife, 1 kid, 1 cat, 1 dog (85lb German Shepard), 1 house, 1 Z, and now down to 1 motorcycle. (I had about 8 so far)
Bought my '71 and a '73 parts car back in '93. Got the '71 running and riving, but I couldn't drive it much becuase of the rust under the battery. Frame rail had a crack in it! Last time I drove my car was when we moved into our house in Jan. of '96. I drove it there and then once in the garage, it was torn apart.
I have gone so far as to remove everything off this car. Took it straight down to the metal and have slowly brought it back to where it is now. Took it off the rotisserie back in Dec. Engine/trans. is back in (although I have to pull it again to replace a freeze plug). Underbody and suspension is complete and the only things left are the body and the interior. I'm working on priming and sealing the body right now.
I have finally set a deadline to have this car finished-June, 2002. I have to have it driving by the time the National Convention gets here to San Antonio. I'm the only member of our Z club that hasn't ever driven their Z to a meeting! Plus I'm also the only member that brought their car to a car show on a trailer as a rolling, primered shell!LOL
I've loved Z cars since I was 5 years old. I have fond memories of rolling around on the rear deck of my Dad's '72 240 and the way to my Grandparent's house going down curvy roads at obnoxious speeds! (back before car seats were mandatory!) I had a chance at a '76 280 2+2 back in High School, but couldn't convince my parents to help front the cash. (I don't particulary care for the "hump backs", but I always did think the dual interior door handles was pretty cool!)
Anyway, I plan on always having at least one Z. Just like I'll always try to have at one motorcycle. My wife claims I love the Z more than her, well I have had my Z longer! ;)
Anyway, I'ved lived in Texas all my life (never farther north than San Antonio). I can definitely say that warm weather is the best! We can drive all year long, in shorts and a t-shirt, and in flip-flops, w/o worrying about road salt, snow, we hardly ever have rain, etc....LOL
Long live the classic Z!
Hey K, how did you get my life? :)
I'm 31, but, I don't have the kid. The Z is a rolling shell and I've never driven it to a meeting what-so-ever. Bummer.
I wish I had the time to put a lot more work into the Z. But, alas I bought a house that needs work. (I spent last weekend hanging drywall and doing a bit of electrical work)
It's looking like I'll never get to finish the Z! But, maybe things will change as soon as I get that furnace working in the garage. It's just a bit too cold for my blood right now.
I do have a couple motorcycles, a roadster, and another Z. And, my wife's buggin me to get rid of a few unnecessary toys.

Hi... I'm one of the new guys....
Here's my story....
I had (and dearly miss) a 1990 Honda CR-X that I built to SCCA IT specs, but never campaigned it - it was my "canyons" car. Had to put it up for sale when tuition came due some time ago because of a **** up w/ financial aid.
I currently own an ex-Regional Champ SCCA GT-4 1973 Honda Civic that I've restored outside & in to showroom beauty. Its lovely little engine I also rebuilt keeping the Dellorto's and motorcycle pistons (12:1 CR) firmly in place.
I just got rid of the salvaged early '73 240Z I posted about last week.
I daily drive my late 73 240Z since last summer. Every day I still find myself wondering how I managed to finally own a 240..... puts a smile on my face every time.

Hi, I'm Greg from Brisbane Australia, just like southern California it is pretty good weather down (up if your in Aus) here almost year round.
I am 38 years old and own (with 2 partners) my own Finance and Construction company and have an interest in an IT company as well. 2 kids, 1 too many wives, 2 motorbikes in various states of repair/reconstruction (3 if you count the eldest boys MX bike) 1 260z 2+2 with too many mods to list, and a new SAAB.
We live a fairly nice existance in this part of the world and as my wife is the keeper of all things in the diary, I never know when I am able to work on the car or bikes, so it has been a slow evolution to where I want to get things.
Thanks to Mike for starting and keeping things active, I use it as my home page.

I have enjoyed reading about the rest of you so here is my story...
I am 33, married 8 years with a 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter. By day I have been a unix systems administrator for Oracle, HP, and am now working as a applications programmer for Gap Inc. (if you send me an email I will gladly put you on my semi-annual friends and family discount mailing list for as long as Gap, Old Navy, & Banana Republic continue it!). Currently I am studying for my cisco networking certification and learning the perl programming language.
Now for the good stuff...
I bought my second car, a metallic grey '71 240Z series II from the original owner in '87 and I still have it. It had 75k original miles and was a clean, original, unmolested, stock car that needed seats, suspension and a paint job. Since then it has gone all down hill, I am starting to sob as I type. ;) I have changed most every bolt on the car at one point or another. It was my daily driver for years and I still drive it on weekends or to work every couple weeks, sorry to those of you who cannot do that. I have had a few other Z cars along the way but nothing that wasn't just good for parts. I hate to crush cars as much as the next guy but believe me the ones I am working with are all going to a better place! Plus it is my means for supplying the pain relief medicine for my Z car illness! I hope to start autox with my wife in the Z this year.
I have another car hobby which is vintage racing. I got my car craziness from my Dad. He has been vintage racing for the past 20 years and I started racing with him about 14 years ago in a '66 Lotus-Ford Cortina Mk1 (something like a BMW 2002 if that helps). If you are in Northern California and want to see some pre-'67 race cars (Datsun Spyder, Lotus, Alfa, Elva, Shelby, Ford, Corvette, Chevy, Porsche, Sunbeam, Ferrari, etc.) and maybe go for a passenger ride around- Laguna, Sears, Thunderhill, or Buttonwillow drop me a line and I'll put you on my list.
Most recently I have become addicted to this site!
Party on!

My name is Brett and I live in sunny CA. I'm 19, going to community college in hopes of eventually transferring to UCLA to major in chemical engineering. I got my '73 240z about 9 months ago. It's been all I could do to keep the thing running much less fix it up. I guess my limited income (McDonalds) and the fact that I know next to nothing about cars has hindered me a little.
I joined this posting to learn stuff so please don't become annoyed at the multitude of questions that I ask.

I'm Dave and I live in North Dakota, yes there is more then one person that lives here. I bought my first Z when I was 17, way back in 1981. What a life it was to be a senior in High School and able to cruise around in a 260Z. Went into the Navy 2 weeks after I graduated and said goodbye to the 260 but not to my love of the car. I've been in the Navy for the last 19+ years and have always looked for another Z. Finally found one when I moved back home to do the recruiting thing for the Navy. It's a 1972 240Z. The guy originally wanted $2600 for it but I held out for 3 months until he lowered the price to $1200, (wanted to buy a riding lawnmower). His lose my gain. It is a daily driver when the weather is decent. Waiting till I retire in 2 years before I start to really tear into it. Of course I'll have to find another one to drive when it's down. Waited to long for another Z to not be able to drive one when I want.

After reading all your profiles, it seems there's a common thread that binds most of you.
You all have very sophisticated (or at least sophisticated-sounding) occupations. I saw Hydrologist, Pharmacist, International Sales Director, and something with NASA.
Are all z-drivers owners of such proud titles? Does this mean that I too will one day have title like that? Or... is it that only those with hefty incomes can afford to deal with trials and tribulations involved with working on a Z and I'm actually screwed?
Just an observation
AxtellZ

Hey car_dumi,
i am only 33 (the pharmacist) and i'll tell you: been married since i was 17 (quite happily still i might add!), I worked on a potato farm back then to pay for school. 70 hrs a week picking rocks out of a field BY HAND for 3.15/hour. I crawled by ass out of meager beginnings and do okay now- if i could do it, so can anyone...
BTW, the title is cool, the moneys decent, but i'm still broke (there's a difference between broke & poor) Ask my wife where half my extra money and extra love go... (hint* startz with "Z")
Keep flipping the burgers and aim high- you'll get there! Zya,

Hi all,
I'd like to echo and reinforce Jerimiah's last comments. I am an Engineering Manager (Mechanical by degree) at a large Commercial Avionics Supplier and have been (very happily) married to the same women since I was 19. This would be 2 years after I puchased the one and only 1971 Z that I still own and just started restoring in Dec 2001. I am now 43 yo with 2 almost grown children and after stints in college, then the Air Force, then back to college I can vouch for the work-hard-and-get-rewarded philosophy. I still also have to balance a passion for Motorcycles (currently only have 1 but have owned 6 or 8 over the years) with a passion for Flying (also just 1 but have owned 3 over the years) but find great joy in coming home each night and taking something apart or cleaning something up or just standing in the garage and staring at the "Z" parts.......most of which are actually being stored in the living room at the moment (I have a really understanding wife!).
Anyway, thanks Mike, for this great forum to discuss and learn from each other about our common interest.
Long Live the "Z",
Randy

Guess you can call me a senior member. 62 yesterday :) I've been a Datsun/Nissan sports freak since I bought my first 1600 Roadster in Okinawa in 1968. I then went through 2 2000 Roadsters (Very Fast, horrible cam chain lashup) Got my first Z, a 71 in about 79, had been fixed up by a Mustang specialist in North Omaha, Ne. Took that car to Athens, Greece with me and had a ball with it until a Greek in a Peugeot nailed me after running the biggest stop sign I've ever seen. (Apparently, I wasn't the first at that intersection. :) After recovering from that episode and returning to the states, I found a beautiful '70 Z in Albuquerque and brought it back to San Antonio. It was painted in Corvette bright yellow and I had it converted to a 280 block with ZX 5-speed. That lasted until I had retired from the Air Force and had to go to California to work. Since the first thing we had done in Texas was throw all the emmision stuff out and the car was only about 16 years old then, I left it in Texas. Civilian work didn't keep me at home long, 2 jobs in Panama, 1 in Korea, 1 Thai wife and Daughter later, I'm settled in NE Maryland with another '70 240Z in very straight and almost original shape. Work on it when I can, have a '90 240SX as a daily driver.

Enjoying reading all the intros but finding it strange that a large amount of us are 33 years old. Not that it makes any difference what age you are, just think it is interesting. I guess it makes sense that us 33 year olds like the early Z cars because we would have got our driving license when the first 300ZX was introduced, read in that I am not a big fan of the early 300ZX series.

Well, as one of the 33 year-olds, i'd say that we were all at a very impressionable age when we saw our first Z cars! I remember riding in the back of the family cruiser as a kid, lusting for all those "cool" cars i'd see hauling around. Luckily i was able to buy my 73 in 1993, and my 74 last summer.
I still stop/gawk/turn around when i spy a first generation Z-car!
Luckily, my family has gotten used to it...as far as the later Zcars- i respect the title and the 300zxtt has awesome performance, but my heart will always beat for the early Z.
That's how i see it, BTW, thanks everyone for sharing a little - like they say "i love you, man...."

Yeah, I whined now about Alphadog being 17 and having a 240 as his first car. My first car when I was 17 (way back when) was a 1973 Plymouth 'Cuda, 340, 4 barrel, Slapstick, A/C and now I only wish I could have that car back. I was making $2.00 an hour and couldn't afford to feed it gas while I was "cruising for chicks" so I traded it for a motorcycle. Yes, I have told myself what an idiot I was back then, over and over and over and over...........

1976 Ford Pinto Wagon, it was a bit rusty, so my father borrowed it one day- the next day the entire lower 2/3rds of it was covered in WOOD! (he's a handy farmer-type) he thought a "woody" would be cool. I thought i'd die of embarassment. If only he could see the woody PT Cruiser today!

My first was a '41 Ford Convertible. Flathead and all. Went through a few different cars as a kid before the service, but actually got into sports cars with the aforementioned '65 Datsun Fairlady 1600 roadster. After that it was more and more of the same. I owned three 2000 roadsters at one time, two of them sequentially numbered. My real love developed with my first Z and I haven't given them up yet.

I have noticed anyone who drives a 240 is generally pretty cool. There is something different about 240 owners...generally about the way they take pride...and the way they think. Lots of 280 drivers let their cars run ragged and just drive to and fro for transportation.
I got hooked on the Z when I was in college. I needed something to wrench on as a hobby. The Z has taught me lots about logical thinking, troubleshooting, project management and mechanics in general.
12 years later, I still enjoy the heck out of my car and often use my knowledge gained from working on my car to what I do today in computers as a Unix System Administrator which often tests my logic and tempermant.

I have been asking alot of questions and never took the time to introduce myself.
Brother Bob is the nickname that the Army threw at me some time ago.
I am a production guy for a natl repair program for military equip.
I have a 73 240 Z , 2.8 low end, 2.4 top end , SU carbs , car is in rough shape but I need a driver for a while. This car has a rebuilt title so I will not restore it but I will clean it up and paint it. I have always liked the 240/260/280 !
This makes my 3'd . I also build hot rods ....49 Chevy, 72 GMC Jimmy, done lots of VWs and even did roundy rounds for 3 years in a VW powered car.
Thanks for help with dumb questions !

Hello all,
I'm a relative newcomer to this site so after reading all your replies I thought I should tell you all a bit about myself.
I live in Melbourne Australia, I wish I was 33 too, but i'll have to live with 41.
Married for 16 years with 1 eleven year old boy.
I work for a Shopfitting company as a Project Manager fitting out supermarkets Australia wide. ( Too much travelling. )
My 260 2+2 is on a home made rottiserie at the moment and I am slowly but surely cutting all the rust out of her, so I can get her painted and start putting her back together. Hopefully one day I can post a finished photo.

Hello everyone! My name is Tom Banez and I've been coming here for several months now. I'm 38 years old, married for 15 years, and have twin 11 year olds (Tyler and Hannah - yup, instant family). We live in Dover Delaware, USA. I'm originally from St. John's, new Brunswick, CA, but I've been in Delaware since I was 3 years old. We also have a 6 year old female boxer named Cleo (100 lbs!!!!), and a cat named Trixie. I'm a Civil Engineer with the state highway department and I design roads.
My Z history is relatively brief I suppose. About 10 years ago I bought my fist Z, a black 1978 280Z for $1000. It wasn't in great shape, but it was a hell of a fun car and I fell in love with it. Well I got carried away one night and stranded it on a concrete island. Tore up the underbody pretty good. Luckily no one was hurt and I got out of it w/o penalty, except for a badly torn up underbody. At that point I decided it was time to get rid of it for something more family oriented - a 1993 Ford Explorer. Time passed and last year it was time for the wife to get a new car, so I traded the Explorer in (thank god) on a 2001 Toyota Highlander for her. That meant I was left with her old 1988 Mazda 626. Well, I decided since her car was going to be our "all purpose family vehicle", I was going to find myself the car I really wanted. I searched online for weeks - looking at early 70's Corvettes and Z's. I finally found my dream car on E-Bay, my 1972 240 (pics in members gallery). I bid on the car and won! My first and only E-Bay purchase! Needless to say, I've been consumed by this car - an instant love affair (don't tell my wife!).
So now I find myself visiting here daily, learning everything I can about Z cars, and meeting all the great people who share my passion. Maybe someday I'll meet some of you in RL - looking forward to it!

I'm well past the 33yo cut-off (59), but I hope to have a few more good years - I'll need them at the rate my 240-Z "refurbish" is progressing. Joined the Navy out of high school in 1960 and spent 8+ years as a Common Enlisted Swine in the Submarine Force - SS-338, SSBN-625, SSBN-611. Sometime during my second hitch I grew up enough to know I didn't like being a second-class citizen, so I applied for college.
Got my BSChe from Clemson Univ. in 1974 and went to work for what is now ChevronTexaco. After 25 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, I took early retirement in 1999. Currently living in Clemson, SC with my two sons - a senior at Clemson and a welding technology stident at the local tech college (divorced nearly 20 years ago, and yes, I was the single parent).
Picked up my 1971 T-I 240-Z (built 12/70) in 1990 - it apparently lead a rough life. I've spent lots of hours "reversing" various po's work and still have some to do. Next "project" is to swap in a Maxima overdrive transmission.

Hi my name is Dan Fifield, I and my 240 just turned 30. I was born in the east end of London England. My father was in the US Navy and my mother born and raised in England. At 17 i joined the Navy and caught my first bit of action in Desert Sheild and Desrt Storm. I am now an E-6 (perhaps an E-7 this year) involved in Military Law Enforcment and force protection. I have lived all over dragging my wonderful wife and four kids all around this country. Right now i'm living in San Diego but will be moving again to a new duty staion in Charlston SC.
My Z experience and total car experience is only a year in the making. Before i bought my 240 i had never even changed the oil in any car i had ever owned. So i have been on a quest to learn everything i can about Z's, engines and cars, basically learning anything anyone will share with me. To this end this Club has been one of the most positive and fun experiences i have had to date.
I have allways liked early Z's even before i knew anything about them. So i saved up and searched and found a car that i thought would make a nice project. With a wrench in one hand and a Haynes manual in the other i started work on my 240. Learning as i went. I can't tell you how gald i am that i bought this car what a blast it is to drive something that you breathed life into with your own hands. I am now truly hooked much to the dismay of my wife who just got over being a golf widow and is now a Z widow.

Here's my little adendum to the topic. I'm 30 years old and live in Stillwater, OK with my wife of nearly 8 years. No children. I just purchased a 1976 280Z and it will definitely take up much of my weekends to come. I first became familiar with the Z line back in 1991 when i purchased a 1985 300zx turbo that totaled by some guy driving wrecklessly in a parking lot. In 1997 I bought my wife a 240sx and just recently sold it for a Surburban (she is an antique dealer and needed the hauling ability). In 1999 I bought a 1991 300zx TT and loved it until i got caught in a flash flood and hydrolocked the engine. Before i got my vintage Z, i was more fond of the 300xz, but I am beginning to come around. I am visiting this site several times a day to check the technical posts to help me learn a lot more about the inner-workings of my Z. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out so far.

Howdy Z-friends around the world,
my name is Rolf-Karl Doehring. I'm 57 years old, married for 26 years, no children but 5 Datsun/Nissan: 2 '72 240 Z, 1 '82 280ZX 2+2 , 1 '88 300ZX 2+2 Tubo and a little Micra (March in the US, I think) as daily city driver. I got my first Z, a 260 Z 2+2 , in 1976. I'm working for 22 years now for the german paper industries association as head business administration and statistics/market research on european level. My hometown is Bornheim, near Cologne, overlooking the river Rhine.
I visited the US 4 times for holidays and got some good friends there, all Z drivers.
One of my 240Z got badly damaged in an international rallye event . So it's totally stripped now, but I will built it "bottom up" again and it will become better than before. By the way, I think that we have only about 25 240Z here in Germany. Parts are not awailable so I have to buy it all in the US - expensive job because of shipment, customs and taxes. but big fun when it runs. This is now the 2nd time I'm restoring a Z.
All the best to all of you !

Hello, I'm new to the club, and recently became a Z-owner again; just turned 40..., had a 74.5 260 2+2 while in high school (Dad's)..., my wife swears it's an early mid-life thing.
I live in Waynesville, OH (20 min from Dayton, 40 from Cincy). 2 great kids, 8 year old daughter and 5 year old son. Great wife, even though she's going to be running out of patience w/ my "new" 77 280. I love golf, music, and generally screwing off. (I can't believe that I cut this deal: One year leave of absence from golf club for 280Z)
Oh, the car: Originally purchased in Cleveland area, then went to Texas at about 3 years of age. Came back to central OH in '93 with 77K miles. Been primarily garaged until now (87K miles).
Exterior is blue and rock-solid, paint is sh*t. Has one spot of rust on the inner front fender well (behind the head light bucket).
Interior is in the process of being converted from cream to black. I'm using SEM vinyl die, and its EASY and looks fantastic. Carpet's in decent shape. Seats need reupholstered or replaced. I'm going to put a MOMO steering wheel, shift knob, boot, etc. in a blue and black coordinated interior.
Mechanically, the car runs very strong. Some cold air induction and header are probably the extent that I'm going to fool with from a performance standpoint. Rear end has a "clunk" if I'm abrupt w/ the clutch. In time, I'm going to replace the 4spd w/ a 5spd. Although I love my current 1st and 2nd gears, the 4th gear at 65 mph for extended periods wears me out.
Suspension / steering could probably stand tightening up. It's certainly not an unsafe vehicle though.
Electrically, this car amazes me. The ONLY electrical miscue is the right front indicator does not intermittantly flash in the hazard mode... works normally when acting as a turn indicator... go figure.
I'm only $3500 into it, and I'm afraid I'm at least $5000 more from finishing it. My wife's gonna wish I stayed focused on my golf handicap! I'm dead meat.

Hello
Names Dave aka 59ghia. Live in South San Francisco CA. I'm a car nut to the nth degree. Was at the yacht club (nothing snooty, just a place to hang out and drink adult beverages) And was talkin cars with one of the older members, he said he had an old Z in the garage he wanted to get "rid" of. My ears perked up and I asked him "how much you want for it?" He said "he** you can have it!" I withheld my complete exuberance and said ok :) Couple days later it was in my driveway. Its a 72 that sat around 2-3 years. currently going through the brakes (see my post), and Rebuilding carbs. Compression is good, no under body rust, but some bubbling on rear hatch ledge. Should be a solid driver.
My "other" cars, starting from the oldest are 2 1959 volkswagens a sunroof sedan and a karmann ghia. The ghia is my toy. Its running a 2 litre with weber 48idas, ported and polished heads engle 130 cam, scat nitrited crank with chevy journals, 5.5 inch chromoly rods, roller rockers. it stops with 4 wheel disks. A 1966 Dodge dart convertable, 273 v8, An 87 BMW 325i (wifes car) And an 89 Ford taurus sho (the family flier).
E-gads!! What a mouthfull!
Of course theres my wife who puts up with all my hyjinks (gotta love her!) And two girls 8 and 10, who fight over what car they get when their sixteen. Can you say "chevy cavalier?"
I'm also into anything old, furniture, clocks etc.
Thats my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Hi folks,
my name is Graeme Suckling and I'm from Adelaide South Australia. I am 51 years old and my son Ben (26) and I are both well and truly into Datsun/Nissan vehicles. I have owned a 1600 4 door sedan (510 to you folks) since 29/1/71. Bought brand new for $AUD2670. I also own a 1973 240Z which is currently undergoing a bare metal up rebuild. The Z had an L28 fitted so I am replacing the L series & auto for an RB25DE & 5 speed from an R33 Skyline. Colour will be GP White (Fuji white), with a 'G' nose, R32 Skyline tail lights and bumper. The existing tail light panel is trashed from rust so If I have to re-build it I'll update it as well. I have made all my own metal patch panels with the exception of the rear sill doglegs (bought from MSA in USA). To date I have top coated all the under side and engine bay and it is lookin' good!
To make things easier the body shell is mounted on a rotisserie.
I just roll it round to do whatever and the job is easy(?).
I have Digital photos so if anyone is interested, just drop me a message. I have 12 months to be on the road, There is a National Z rally in Toowoomba Queensland Aust. Easter 2003.
Of course I'll make it!

Hey all. My name is Grant, im 16 and live in Orange County, CA. I WAS a proud owner 72 240z until the big accident and am currently on the prowl for one right now. The first time I saw a 240z, at age 10, i decided that i was going to buy that car no matter what. Summer rolled around after my 16th birthday and i worked my ass off, saved just enough and got a crazy deal on a 240z. It didnt have much done to it yet, but the previous owner had put Toxico struts, Eibach springs, anti-sway bars, 280zx 5-speed, electronic ignition, and NO rust or bondo (thats what you get on Southern California  ) I had that Z for about 5 monthgs and the original L24 threw a rod, I couldnt find another L24, so i decided on a 82 L28 i found for $300. I had if for TWO days with the L28 when i rolled her, that was probably the worst day of my life, i loved that car and i was proud of it. All the car guys at school loved it and i got so many compliments from people at stop lights and gas station, but thats all over now :( . Oh well...thats it about me, nothing interesting yet!

Holy Moly,
First of all congratulations to all for helping contribute to what I feel is one of the strongest "family atmosphere" clubs on the 'net.
I gotta say, 2ManyZ's, the tribute to your father is awesome.
I found the Z car virus when I owned my first Z which was a 1978 280. It had the basic auto X package until the master cylinder failed on a corner that I was zipping thru. (Big shock.)
But, once again I was reminded of the strong cage these cars have as I rolled off the road. Not ONE salvageable part. :( But I was ok and learned that life is still good after basically walking away from an accident that occoured at around 90. And yes, I've had a talk with that little demon that sits on my shoulder.
Since that little crackup, I've owned 5 more and currently have my first 240 under construction. Which by the way, the valve problem was something simple and yes, that spindle STILL has not moved. Hey, where can I get that puller again????:D
Maybe this time I'll write it down...:p
I'm yes, 33 yrs old, am a supervisor for Waste Management, yes I talk trash all day! Have 3 kids and the wife. (ok, 4 kids including myself...) The wife will join me in auto X hopefully this year (if the car is ready) which I should probably tell her she is doing, huh?:D She's NEVER raced so it should be fun for her, (and all...;) ) Come to think about it, she hasn't driven anything but automatics. Hmmmm, may need to rethink this.
Well, I appreciate all the advice that all have given me, the Z that keeps us all together is a stong one and that's nice to see in a world that usually needs second guessing...
Hello everyone my name is Ivan, I'm from New Zealand and I am 21 years old. Not married, no kids my first Z was a '90 300zx 2 years ago (still got it) and just recently I picked up a '72 240z and have been restoring it for about 5 months now. I have bought a RB25DET from a '93 skyline and a R32 gearbox which I am currently fitting into the engine bay.

Hello All!
My name is Rick Hanson and I live in St. Louis, MO. I'll be 38 this month, married with a 3 1/2 year old Son who is an aspiring Z car fan.
I currently own a 1970, 1971 and 1972. The '70 is being prepped for SCCA ITS racing - first outing this August at Gateway International in St. Louis. The '71 is being made into my daily driver. The '72 is my two year project being prepped for SCCA E-Production. I've been racing 240s for seven years in ITS. Had two '72s. Both have been re-tired (pardon the pun, but you have to have a sense of humor after smacking the 'tire' walls at 100mph+).
It's nice to race a car that is 30 years old and still whip up on the new BMWs and Mazdas!
I'm a software engineer and run HANSON Motorsports on the side, specializing in custom roll cages and brake cooling ducts (www.hmsports.com).
This is a wonderful forum and an enjoyable web-club.
Later, Rick

Hi Ivan,
I'm doing an RB25DE conversion to a '73 Z which is currently under going a complete re-build - see earlier posting.
I would like to see some pics if you have any.
My pics have just been approved and are on view under the "Body and Paint" category.
New pic is my proposed front brake conversion!

Hi everyone,
My name is George, i'm 27, single and i'm a Zedaholic!! I got into 240's quite recently. I live in the UK, London to be precise and i never saw one before, there's only about 150 left over here. This is mainly due to not many being shipped over (the shipping rates from Japan in the 1970's didnt make the 240z such an affordable buy over here) as well as the majority being victim of our weather!!
Well my borther wanted a 300ZX TT for ages and when he purchased his i started doing my research on Z cars and once I saw a picture of a 240Z in a book I was smitten. I joined the Z Club of GB to find out more info on these cars and then went out of my way to purchase Amazon.co.uk's entire stock of books on early Z cars!
I then scoured the classifieds and found my green beast you see in the icon to your left. She's a 73 and I love driving her. The only problem I have found is that you cant drive her all the time, she never come out to play in the wet and usually lives in hibernation in a nice warm garage. So looking forward to a hot summer so I can drive her loads.
Mike well done on building such a great site and the community spirit must be testament to your good nature. I hope to learn loads form you guys as this obsession is very new to me, its the first sports car I have owned and need all the help I can get.
Thanks all for reading this far
Ha Ha!! ROFL
I dont know why I said i'm single, just re-read my post!! Oh well the girlfriend will never check this site out. Phew!!!LOL

Hi every one,
My name is Guus van der Bol and I live in Holland where the tulips grow.Hi every one,
My name is Guus van der Bol and I live in Holland where the tulips grow.
I’m 48 years old and my job is driving passenger trains through the country. I’ve a lovely wife no kids, 5 dogs, 2 horses, a cat and a bunch of canaries.
My first Nissan, a 280ZX, I bought in ’83 and kept it until 3 years ago. In the mean time I bought -the real car- a ’70 240Z from an American who worked in Great Britain.
I overhauled the Z totally as you can see at my personal photo gallery and now the car is a look a like Monte Carlo works rally car.
I’m in the Z ‘business’ from ’85, started in Holland the Z & ZX club, which has now 320 members.
Well this is my story.
Greetings from the other side.

Hi, I am Anna. I'm 29 and live in Australia. Like many other Australians I live near the beach. I have been driving little dattos for yonks and now my boyfriend is helping me to restore my first z car - a 1972 240z. He has all the gear to make it happen, if I can just distract him from his own projects (Minis!) long enough we'd get somewhere. This is all new to me, ie, building a car from the ground up.
Thanks for the great site. I've been learning heaps already.
cheers
Anna:cool:
It's taken me several visits just to read all of the posts in this thread!!
Now that's done, I'll add my bit. My dad has already given a brief introduction, and it's his fault that I'm stuck spending all my disposable income on my Datsuns :D
I'm 25, not married (can't afford it - too many cars), but not single.
I'm an IT Consultant & live in Adelaide, South Australia.
My '73 240Z was my first car - purchased in early 1996. Since then, it's gone completely out of control.
The full restoration will get completed one-day soon (it's been 3-years so far). In the meantime, I've bought another '73 (the one Dad's currently restoring), 2 R-30 Skylines & a 910 wagon. I'm currently channelling funds towards my newest Skyline, a 1983 DR-30 RS-X Turbo. Once that's painted & brought up-to-scratch, it'll be back to the Zed.
To clarify - the Skylines are nice, but they're NOT a 240Z ROFL
I find it very motivational to participate in sites such as this one. It also keeps the Z cravings at bay - that & the fact that I have friends with Z's.

My name is Jay and I live in Winchester VA and work for the US Geological Survey. I'm 50, married, no two-legged kids, but have 3 Irish Wolfhounds and one Greyhound (who have their own GMC van).
Presently own a '72 240Z which is fully restored with the exception of getting the damn horn to work, but working on that. Also have two '77 MGB (one stock the other with a Rover V8 conversion) and a Lotus 7. Will probably get rid of the MGBs this summer and get another Z (much more fun and easier to work on). Long ago my first Datsun was a '70 1600 roadster also had a '71 240Z for a while before is was eaten by a Ford Galaxie.

Hi: my name is Alex and I have been a z-holic for one week now. Bought a nice clean and straight 240Z from a friend for $800. No major rust, the engine runs well (needs the carbs tuned though), and the interior is clean and uncut.
No interest in restoring this car to pristine beauty but looking to build it up for back country rally racing. I look forward to pestering many of ya'll for help.
I live in East Idaho with my wife of 9 years and my two dogs. I'm a network administrator for a local bank but prefer cars to computers. (Though I am in the process of installing a computer in my Z. :-D)
BTW would installing Weber Carbs and a N36 intake improve my performance greatly over the stock carbs?
Well, I'm one more to add to the four or five teenagers here, and three New Zealanders I've seen so far.
I'm 16, still go to school and own no car at all. This is due to my lazy response to getting my license and even lazier effort at trying to find a job.
I first heard about 240zs when I saw one sitting up the road and found out that it belonged to my hairdresser, who is constantly restoring it. Ever since I saw it, I wanted one. It dosn't make it easy in New Zealand tho, it's really hard to find Z cars, especailly 240zs ('73 as I want). I'm always looking out for them tho, hoping my parents will shout me the extra cash.:)
Yea,,, thats me..
Hi all! Here are the facts
My name is Jeff Paciolla I am 34 yrs old, I live in Charlotte NC, married, with a 4 yr old girl and a baby boy due in May (next month)
I currently do not own a Z, but I have wanted one since I was a teenager. I am hoping to save up some money and buy a 240 that i can fix up sometime in the next year.
The problem seems to be that there are very few available on the east coast, so shipping cost becomes a big factor.
I look forward to many informative conversations.

Hi Everyone,
I'm pretty new to the boards, but I feel lucky to have found such a great resource.
My name is Chris, I'm 25 and own a 1972 240. It's in okay shape, but will rock after a little work. I live in Seattle and work for Electronic Arts marketing video games.
I'm looking to get married soon so the major work on the Z will probably have to wait. I'll just do what I can on the cheap for now. After a few more mechanical fixes I really want to insulate the car and put in new carpet.

well, we do have quite a diverse group now. My name's Gary, I'm 47 yo and have lived here int he San Francisco Bay area for the past 15 years. I'm employed with a major public transportation agency in Contracts & Procurement. I primarily work with Specialized Engineering Services contracts, and also purchase our rail rolling stock.
I've had my poor, tired old '72 for 3 years, but it's still enjoyable to drive. It will undergo a resto-customization maybe in a year or so, after I've gotten Phase I of my other project conpleted.
That involves building up my '97 Jeep ZJ (Grand Cherokee) to better handle more hardcore rock crawling. I belong to a group of ZJ nuts who like to prove that our Grands don't know the way to the mall, but they LOVE Moab and the Rubicon.
Until a couple of years ago, I was a crew member and co-driver of an IMSA-styled dirt modified stock car. That was a real blast! Nothing like 500hp under the hood and a wild-*ssed bunch of competitors to stir things up!
My first car was my mom's '57 Chevy wagon, then a '48 Chrysler Windsor sedan. Other notable cars include a '64 Impala SS, '69 Road Runner, '69 Chevelle SS396 (375HP version), '64 Austin Healey 3000 Mk III, and a '72 Pontiac Grand Prix.
Ok, that's probably more than enough. Hope to meet up with at least some of you in the future. Until then, z-ya!

I didn't think this particular post would fill so fast, I meant to post earlier but did't so am now. Ahem..
My name is Jimmy, 28. I live in TUlsa, Ok with my wife of going on 3 years now. We have 2 cats, Frito and Oreo; and a hamster named Popcorn. Seems like we have the whole junkfood theme going on here.
I work for Sprint, my wife works for an insurance company. We were the proud owner of 2 Z's, a '73 240Z and a '75 280Z. Unfortunatly it became necessary to part with one and now I just have the '75. I miss my 240Z. [whimper]. My wife drives a '95 Ford Contour. Nice thing about that is whenver the whole family issue comes up, we already have the 'family car'; and I can keep my ride.
Yes, the 280Z does not drive, take off, or handle like a 240Z. Its about 400lbs heavier. But it does look nice.
Beyond that, Rebekah (my wife) is a game show freak, and will monopolize the internet connection. I am an avid Hung Gar practitioner. I have way too many swords, spears and other archaic weapons on the walls. Between my wife, my Z (used to be Z's) and Kung Fu, these are the loves of my life. ROFL

Yes my name is Ed. I live in San Diego and will be moving to S.C. Next month. I have 2 daughters and I have been married for 13 years. I own a '73 that has kept me busy for a couple of years now. This is my first Z and I hope that I can keep her for a while. Hope to see you So Cal guys at the MSA show on May 5th. :D
Hi guys,
Man, that took a while to read all of those posts! The only problem with wading through that lot is that I now want to go back into the shed and keep working on the Z ;)
Anyway, my name is Ross, I'm not quite married (but she's pushing:) ), two cats, two mortgages, one Zed, an Isuzu Bellet and a Holden Gemini (Chevrolet Chevette or Pontiac T1000 in America, and the Vauxhall Chevette in the UK or Opel Kadett I think... ) and I really don't have enough time!
I'm only 23 so I seem to be amoung the minority on here, but I do work in IT, doing technical support for one of Australia's biggest banks. I run most of the EFTPOS network for afore mentioned bank and have just started doing a CCNA.
I race a Holden Gemini with a DOHC Efi 2L in it at the local circuit down here, and I think a T3 is in the works. Where's here I hear you ask? I'm down in sunny Adelaide, in South Australia which I think I saw a couple of other guys on here who are local? Small world :)
I've been working on my 260Z 2 + 2 for a little while now but I'm not really getting anywhere as I've just bought a house which doesn't have a shed... I'm also in the market for a 240z or 260z as a daily driver so if anyone has one.... Drop me a line.
Oh, well. Hope to pick your brains soon for info as the engine has finally died and I think a rebuild is in order.
Thanks,
Ross.

I had plans to come to france but at the same time I had to drive a rally training. But next time I will be there you can count on me.
I thought Sean had crashed his car into a ditch? It's a great 'flying' car. He, Sean, got ones the black flag at the circuit Zandvoort, the reason way (?) you have to ask him! But we had a great time that day.
I still like to have a greater picture of your JPS logo, is that possible?

My name is Matt i am 18 a senior in high school, and i hate ricers with a passion....which is why i have the Z
I am currently an active member of the Florida State Army National Guard, i spend most of my time driving around my 85 300zx and wishing for an earlier model...
My dad owned a 1979 280Z when i was born ( i came home from the hospital with the baby seat strapped to the handle for the storage bin ) and when i turned 17 and got my licence my quest for the Z began.
The first car wa a set back paid $300 for a 1974 dodge dart sport that wasn't running......re-built the carb, got it running, sold it for $1250 and laughed all the way to the bank.LOL
After that was a camaro, and then....i found it, i traded a 1985 camaro for a non-running 1982 280zx turbo 5 spd, black, T-tops, and an interrior that was impossible to despypher the color of...
well i blew it up and now have the 300 and i'm just waiting for my sign on bonus and then i'll have the new Z
Hopeuflly a 72 73 240, or an early 260.

I'm Louie from Seguin, Texas near San Antonio. 48 years old with two sons, 16 and 25, and a non-car person wife. She got fairly mad when I bought my 74 260 back in january. She got even madder when I bought a second 74 260 two months later. The first car is already running but we are still working out the electrical bugs. Paint shop right after that. Both are project vehicles but very rust free. I'm keeping an eye out for a 71-73 240Z. I am a mechanic (instructor) but I still can use help with lots of Z specific issues.
I've always loved cars and have several daily drivers and two other "classics." How does a 62 nova convertible (V-8) and a hemi-powered Desoto sedan sound. I also have a couple of stalled projects (64 Mercedes sedan and 73 Hornet X fastback) and a dragrace (very slow 13.50's) buick big block sedan.
I had a 73 240 about 8 years ago but sold it to finance other projects.(home). I think the young man that bought it wrecked 1 month later. I plan on keeping these two much longer unless I find a 240.

Hi all,
Since we are doing the brief history of my life thing ....
I am a 27yr old living in Dunedin New Zealand, which makes this page's international coverage pretty impressive I think. I work as an Envrionmental Scientist for a local consulting company.
I recently (1 week ago) bought a 1980 280Z with 97 000 k's on it .... I am driving it this week then its off into the garage for a ground-up re-build. Should be good fun. Previous restorations have included Ford (Mercury to those in the USA) Capris and other 1970's Fords.
Any other Kiwis out there??
Cheers, Ross

I own a Late '73 the born on date is 8-73 . She just turned 200K and is running great altho the engine and tranny were rebuilt about 100k miles back. Running great with early SUs and a 79zx Ignition. I am '64 and have been into cars since I was 16 and bought my first car, a 2 yr. old 52 chev . and a year later I bought a '32 three window Ford . I married my present wife 43 yrs ago and we have raised our 4 children 2 boys and 2 girls . oldest is our son '41 and youngest '35 . So far I am the oldest posting here, which dosent make me feel young thats for sure. I have wanted one of these cars since '70 when one of my co workers bought one, and it was love at first sight. I had to wait a while untill the kids were all grown and I could afford another hobby and had the time and place to keep it. Well I purchiced my '73 two yrs ago and have been mostly just driving it. It would hardly run when I bouhgt it but after a complete tune it runs like a watch. I was born and raised in Van Nuys Calif. suburb fo L A . I was withe the L.A. Fire Dept . for 22+ yrs. and retired in 1984 and we all moved to Portland Ore. and love it , the wet does get boring about this time of year. Back to the Z . I am in the process of replacing the floor on the passanger side and stripping out the interior and pulling the engine to detail the engine bay. Hope to have the car painted this summer. At present my plan is to get the z down to a rolling shell and have the inetrior and engine bay sanblasted , repair what is needed and installing a '82 280zx engine that is on a stand at present. It has been interesting reading the posts from all over world. I want to thank all for all the help you have given me in the past. I know V-8s but these little 6s are a horse of a different color. My best to all . Gary

I think some 280Z's were imported new into NZ (I'm sure someone out there knows)...
... but most (like mine) were imported used from Japan in the late 80's/early 90's. Is this the last corner of the world where Z's are really cheap? looked at a running (road-worthy and driven daily)280Z for $400 NZ yesterday ... thats <$200US!!

Greetings all,
My name is Richard Gray and I am the proud owner of a '71 240z (silver w/black interior). I am currently unemployed and was in the hi-tech industry before I got tired of companies going out of business under my feet. I call Santa Cruz, CA my home and am happy to see other Z enthusiasts around town.
I think I first got interested in Z's when I got to ride in my uncle's 240z back in the early 70's. He had a nice '70 240 that was very close to what I have now. The only difference was he had a front air dam and rear louvres. He used to live in Las Vegas (musician back in the early days of the strip) and told me stories of his 100+ mph travels across the desert. He was most impressed with the air dam at higher speeds keeping the car under better control.
Anyway, back in the days when I had extra money, I decided to purchase a new toy and came across a guy in Oregon who had decided to retire. Turns out, he owned a Nissan repair shop...how bad could his car be, right? After several emails, I hopped a plane to Oregon with a cashiers check in my pocket. I am happy to say that I had a REALLY great drive back to Santa Cruz from the Eugene area. The car is almost completely stock. When I have the time, I would like to do a frame up restore. Until that day, I enjoy driving Hwy 17 and the many mountain roads outside of town.
Hobbies include disc golf, fly fishing, kayacking, mt biking and driving fast. :-) I am not married (thank god), have a dog, cat, gecko and lots of fish.
Happy driving and keep the dirty side down...

Well it's my turn,
James Burns, almost 40 years old (arggg) and been in love with Z cars since my Dad brought home a new Ice Blue '77 280Z. Been hooked ever since. But I've always driven other cars and just wish about have a Z again. I'm a Safety Consultant for an insurance company and always drive around in company cars (currently a 2001 Dodge Stratus). Married, two grown kids, two grandkids. Live just north of Nashville, TN
So in 1999 I get the "opportunity" to buy this very yellow '77 to "refresh" It came with a '76 280 parts car. So I dive back into Z-Land. Well the "Yellow" Z is to eaten with rust so I just sell it for parts but keep the other parts car for it's manual tranny and rearend.
And then God shines down on me. I read this ad in the local small town paper -" 1973 Datsun 240 Z 38,000 actual miles - $4,500" Now I don't believe the mileage, but a local 240 is worth looking at. Come to find out the car is pretty clean, original, automatic (can't win 'em all), owned by two old ladies (sisters) from southern Oregon. No rust at all. The mileage is documented. Car runs great. I can't get my checkbook out fast enough.
Currently this fine 240Z is getting '72 SU carbs (replacing Weber DVGs), electronic ignition, now has a manual tranny and R200 rearend, and getting a new paint job and new seats. Should be on the road by Fall.
Good to be back in a Z ( if it's only in my garage right now)

Doehring,
Greetings from Tennessee,
You might find it interesting about the old ladies that I brought the 240 from. Their father was a factory race car driver for Gilmore Oil back in the '30s, so these gals were always "racer-babes". Hung out at all the big races and always drove hot cars. Although this car was not driven much, I get the feeling at least one of them "drove" the car. When I test drove it for the first time, this nearly 70 year old lady tells me "it drives real smooth right at 100 mph and needs to breath a little". She was right. Great selling point!
Ga'Day, James

The 280 N/A were imported but the 280 turbos were not, there are a few 280 turbo here but they were probably either N/A to begin with and turbo'd later or specially imported.

Contrary to my username I am not Ozzy. I was born in Macedonia and came to Sydney in 1987 where I've settled in very nicely. I do consider myself as much an Ozzy as anyone and love this country like it were my own motherland.
I love movies, a fat book, a decent meal, jumping out of planes and riding my bike downhills. Most recently I've fallen in love with a '72 240Z.
My friend who's and ol' schooler was constantly trying to get me to buy an old 8. I've loved the '67 Fastbacks since a wee little lad so I started shopping for one but soon realised that they are not as affordable as I originaly thought. So the quest for my next car came to a halt.
That is untill I saw a 240Z in the streets near my house. Having never seen one I was more than curious and dubbed it my unicorn not knowing anything about this car. During a conversation one night soon after I brought up my unicorn and my friends realised I was reffering to a Z. That night I started my research and the rest is history as they say. Didn't take me too long to find one which was surprising because of the rarity of them here in Aus.
Again I must thank Steve Curtis who led me to my car.:classic:
Thus ends my story and here begins my love of my unicorn.

Hi everyone
My name is Lee and I live in Perth, Western Australia
I am 37 years old, married with two son's aged 17 and 9, both are Zed fans (a great help when it comes to getting more money out of the wife)
I have been mad on most sports cars since I was seven or eight years old.
I can remember looking at 240 and 260's around that age and promised myself I would get a 260 one day (working on the assumption that the 260 must be better than a 240 because it had a bigger number, well I was just a kid)
Well, I never got the 260 but I am now on my third 240 (one 72 model and two 1970 cars)
My current 70 model car is just about to go through a complete restoration, should start later this month.
I also love motorbikes and currently ride a Honda Blackbird (well I had to have something to get to work on without getting stuck in traffic) My wife says the bike has to go to finance the zed restoration, I naturally agreed but told her I needed to get the zed underway first (he he he)
It's great getting a bit of an insight into the people you often communicate with (and those you don't)
Keep the threads coming
Happy new year to everyone
Regards
Lee

Hi,
My name is Mike and I'm a fast car-aholic. I currently have a 1972 240 that I am using for vintage and club racing. The former owner ran the car in ITS, but I am busy removing weight and adding horsepower to make it competitive in CP. This is the first race car I have owned that didn't have a V8, but it's just as much fun and way easier to work on. Previous race cars have been a 1993 Corvette (Showroom Stock racer) a highly modified 1994 Corvette, which won the 2000 PRO racing series championship and compteted in Speedvision World Challenge, and a Superformance Cobra replica, which did some vintage and club racing as well.
I got interested about a year ago, when a freind of mine (Stephen Johnstone - on this forum) invited me to co-drive his ITS Z car in a vintage enduro. We started last (didn't qualify) and finished 4th in a car that cost only a couple grand. The next day I started looking for a Z of my own.
I'll post some race car pics soon.
Mike
Hi... brand new Z owner. Only previous restoration experience was 1965 VW Bug, 66 VW bug (put Porsche 914 engine and tranny in it and it would pop a wheelie in first gear) , an 85.5 Porsche 944 and most recently a 1980 Triumph Spitfire.
Not sure I am still up to the task of this Z but it got it for a song and it appears to be nearly rust free and all original, so I am making a try at it.
I have eight children via adoption so I have zero free time but I work on the car when I can here and there. I need some expert out there to come see me some weekend and have a Z marathon so I can get some stuff done.
My cars, in order of ownership:
66 VW Bug
73 Olds Cutlass Supreme
78 Chevy Caprice
83 Honda Civic
87 Honda Prelude
90 Honda Prelude
92 Toyota Camry
85 Porsche 944
96 Dodge Ram Van 15 passenger
96 Plymouth Grand Voyager
80 Triumph Spitfire *
71 Datsun 240z *

Hi, glad to be able to introduce myself. Im Steven, Live on the south coast of NSW Australia. I first saw a 240Z in about 72, it was the first prize in a shopping centre contest, i must have been 12 or so, and that was it. That was the car i had to have.
So in 78 while i was a apprentice motor mechanic i sold my sole to the bank and got a 77 260z 2+2, not what i wanted but my family would help me pay for it if they could sit in it too.
In 85 i bought my current 240 and drove it for 3 years until my daughter was borne, then sold it for a station wagon ( why do we do that ? ). Then in 98 i bought it back from the guy i sold it to.
Five years ago i started on rebuilding the car, first i fitted a L28, then supercharged it .
Three years later i striped the body back to bare metal, had it painted and repaired, this took 6 months in the shop. Once i got the car home again the suspension, brakes, transmission, RB 30 Engine, wiring, glass, rubber seals, badges, dash board and chrome was replaced or rebuilt.
Other cars ive owned are two Datsun 1600's ( P510) a Nissan stanza, 78 skyline, old Volvo wagon, 850 Volvo sedan, Lexus SC400 and im thinking of a Nissan GTi-R Pulsar to replace the Lexus.
For the last 5 years ive been teaching Motor mechanics, car and truck at TAFE (Technical and Further Education)
Happy to meet you all.
Steven

hi all, my name is gary but i go by clutchdust (don't want to tell you how many clutches earns a nickname like that) and i live in las vegas.
married, two cats and a dog.
i own a '94 chevy truck i use for business and an '81 corvette. the corvette has been my passion since i was a kid.
i don't actually own a Z right now, nor have i ever. i have a friends '72 sitting in my driveway though. she parked it a few years ago because of an electrical problem and asked me a few months ago if i could get it running for her. so i've been working on it here and there but it looks like the years of no maintenance while it was running and even less maintenance while it was parked has taken it's toll.
still, i've been looking at it for a couple months now and have to admit, it's a good looking car. almost rivals my vette (almost).
i think i might just buy this car off her. it's rusting and needs alot of work but for a couple hundred bucks, i don't think it would be a bad deal at all. besides, i'm a grease-under-the-fingernails type and i've already envisioned a 4.3L chevy v-6 with a t-5 tranny in that big, open engine bay. oh yeah!
mistressmotorsports, i think i may have met you at some point. i have worked a few SCCA and other races out here and i seem to recall that name.

G'Day all,

married 35 yrs. (she deserves a medal). One son, a psychologist in Brisbane. Keeps trying to use his magic on me but I tell him to go shake his bat's wings, rat tails, chicken legs and other amulets of of his magical arts at someone who'll pay him.
Having retired, we now live on the Queensland coast at Yeppoon, about 45 kms from Rockhampton.
In november 2000 we were in Brisbane looking for a car to "do up" when my sharp eyed wife noticed a Bronze 260 Z in a car yard as we drove past.
Did a Ueee, had a test drive, gave them a cheque for $3,500.00
and drove it home.
It's now at the stage where I only have the whine in the diff fixed and she's ready for the paint shop.

Hello. My name is Shannon, I'm 31 and I live in Gaithersburg, MD.
My very first car was a '79 280ZX and that was all it took for me to fall in love with small, fast cars. Back in August of '02 I bought a '73 240Z off of ebay and (thanks to 2Many) realized that the car was going to need more work than I had ever imagined. The car has since been sold and I have learned quite a few things about these little wonders.
Over the weekend I bought a '75 280Z that is in really good shape. It will need a little TLC but not much. At least this one runs and runs well.
I've had my fair share of play toys and daily drivers.

Hi guys and gals, my name is Jeff and I live in Ct. My log on sums up my zcar. I have always wanted one since my uncle had a brand new blue one in '73. I have been collecting things about these cars for years and finally last spring I was surprised by my girlfriend with my "dream z". She took me to an abandon building where in the parking lot sat a '71 240z with a cardboard for sale sign on it. The car "looked" great at night by the light of a near by street light. Recent paint, new tires, vintage kidney mag wheels and rear spoiler. I took down the VIN and proceeded to go online where I found a list of original owners with original purchase dates. To my amazement, my research found that the car was built the same year and month I was born. Needless to say I bought the car. It is a beautiful metalic red with black interior which my girl friend did an awesome job reconditioning after we had the seats recovered. These cars sound so nice with a header and a Pacesetter exhaust system which ours has. My question to anyone is this, some one transplanted a newer 4spd. trans with an S-shaped shifter. They modified the center console to make it fit. Will a 72-73 or 74 console fit the shifter better while also fitting the car? Thanks.

Just introducing myself, I am Bonnie's son (Dillion's dad), just joined up.

My name is Ernie Hiracheta and I'm from TX. I am 23 years old and a college student. My first car was a N/A 81' 280zx,
I was 16 and bought it for $500. I didn't really know too much about cars then, much less Zs. The car ran good when i got it, the exterior needed lots of help(heck it needed its own charity foundation), but the interior was nice and the a/c worked. The previous owner gave me a hanes manual with the car. Well I learned a little over the 2 years it ran.
My first job was replaceing the water pump. The satisfaction of completing this job successfully felt great. Then later on i replaced the fuel injectors on my own. Then i figured out i had a sports car cause my car went fast(well... to me then) and when i felt this rush i started reading up on Z's and that's all I have ever bought.
I caught Z fever.
2 weeks before I left for college I was leaving town and before I made it out
I heard a real loud clunk when i shifted to 5th. I got the car into a parking lot and my transmission was pouring(not leaking) fluid in the parking lot. ( i was always abusing that tranny on the backroad twisties, and peeling out in the high school parking lot. Ah........16 kinda wish i was there again)
Well i couldn't fix my Z, cause i quit my job in prep for college.
I ended up giving it to my uncle.
When I finished my first two years in school first thing i did was go out and buy another 280zx, this time with t-tops. My band was going on tour and I traded it for a guitar amp. (The mistake i regret most in my life.)
When i got back I went out and bought my 240z, I learned what Z was all about as i was driving it. The backroads didn't seem as twisty, and I just loved the feel.
Recently I bought a 78 280z, I have plans for a performance resto on my 240z. I figure I needed another daily driver, so i started looking for another Z, and found this 280 for a grand.
I will probably have 6 or 7 Zcars within a few years or so.
I have Z fever.

My turn?
I'm new to this scene, but not to ownership.
58 yrs old, married 36 this year. Wife helped pick out the 240Z when new!! Three son's, the Marx Brothers.
Original Owner of a 10/71 build Z with about 77K miles.
Did 23 yrs as Army officer after ROTC at The Ohio State University
Own a 1998 Camry, and a 2002 Focus SVT.
Wife and I jointed the Swan Creek Sports Car Club and autocrosses from day one, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Aberdeen MD.
Car has been in VA, TX, KS, MI, OH, and stored for 9 years during tours in Germany 4yr, Japan (Okinawa)3yr, and The Netherlands 2yr. Was President of the Okinawa Sports Car Club, which had/has a long history to include races in the 50's.
I bought Minilite wheels in 73, at $125each. What is that in todays $. Now the Panasport wheel has taken that look, and has the plus diameters. Mine are 14x6.5. With 60 series Kumo Victor racers, there is a lot (too much) space in the wheel well.
Put on BRE spook and spoiler in 73. Replaced shocks, brakes, tension rod, steering rack bushings.
Had dealer replace the diff at about 16k, miles at great expense due to considerable whine. Still have the diff and need to have someone rebuild. The replacement whined almost as much?
Member of the Ohio Valley Region OVR of the SCCA, and of a new Z club in central Ohio, The Z & Roadster Owners Club. ZROC.
We just sort of broke away from the Z club of Ohio out of Cincinnati, and combined the Roadster club of Ohio which was getting quite small.
Have a 2.5in exhaust from headers back to turbo exhaust.
Love to autocross, but needs stiffer shocks, adjustable would be great.
Thanks for listening.

9 pages take a while to read, but it's cool seeing who some of you are. So, I'm Mark - 42, one wife for the past 18 years, and three sons (10, 12, and 15). Just signed the drivers permit application for the 15 year old today. Pity me! I live here in Champaign, IL, about 45 miles from where I grew up in Decatur, IL. Got a BS in Engineering here at the University of Illinois, and then spent 6 years in Los Angeles (UCLA) getting a Ph.D. in engineering to go with it. Then 5 years in South Carolina working for Westinghouse at a Dept. of Energy site doing Safety Engineering work. Then followed 7 years in Bel Air, MD (just north of Baltimore) working for a company called SAIC doing safety work, and then information technology work for the Army. Now I'm back working in a research group at the University of Illinois, using supercomputers to model Solid Propellant Rockets (a rocket scientist in a manner of speaking :classic: ) like the ones on the space shuttle. www.csar.uiuc.edu if you're interested in that sort of thing. I'm their software engineering and QA manager.
My first car in 1977 was a 71 240Z that I switched the auto tranny to a 4 speed, rebuilt the head, and much of the body on. Rustbelt, you know. I traded it in in 1981 on a 75 280Z that I had until I graduated from UCLA in 89. Had the suspension on that one tricked out with heavy bars, springs, etc. I liked it, but I was married with one kid when I graduated, and had to keep the station wagon, and not the Z  . In 94, in Maryland, I found a '78 280 that was in OK shape for $900. Not too much rust. Just needed a few things to pass MD safety. Well, I never had time. 6 years later I towed the thing from MD to IL, still waiting to fix it. This January, I ripped out the interior, only to find huge amounts of floor/frame rust. Then one day in March, as I was looking around to decide whether to fix or buy another one, I noticed a silver 240Z on a side street here in town. Stopped by, and it was for sale! After finding that it was 11/69 car #215, I did a little research, and luckily for me, the guy who owned it needed $$ and dropped his price by $1500. Still probably paid too much given the rust I've now found, but hey, It's a project.
So, the restoration begins...I'll be around for quite a while. Nice meeting you all.

I'm another Steve and I am addicted to the Speed Channel. 47 yrs. old, married 20 yrs. and have two daughters 10 and 8. I have two 240Z's from 1973, the same year I graduated high school. Both the green and orange Z have been autocrossed on and off when the money allows. I have been a T.V. videographer for 23 years. My cars for the past 31 years include a '65 Corvair Corsa, '66 Corvair Monza, 71 Opel station wagon, '81 VW Scirroco, '76 Jaguar XJ V8 conversion , 2 Datsun 510 two doors, 2 Datsun 510 wagons, 2 '71 Datsun 240 Z's and the current '73 Z's. We have a family mini-van and I drive a company Ford van for work. I commuted in the green Z for several years but it is way to crazy now with all the 5000 pound SUV's that can't see a lowered 240. So now both cars are becoming dedicated track cars. One autocross, the other open track. I probably will be selling the autocross car to finish the track car. Too much of a good thing!

This is Great!
I'm Christopher, 49 year old Architect in Sarasota, Florida. I am single with a 15 year old daughter.
I bought my Z from the estate of the original owner in1984. I grew up in Sarasota, the car is from Sarasota, and it is probably the first Z I remember seeing. It belonged to a friend's father.
In my younger days, I raced an MG in SCCA FP, an Alexis FF, and a Porsche 911 in DP. The Porsche went on to GTU IMSA during the heydays of John Paul, Don Wittington and I got to drive one stint at the Daytona 24 before Freddy crashed the car at 5 in the morning. Bobby Rahal used to hang out with his FB at Florida Region SCCA beer parties. I remember Janet Guthrie and Lynn St. James from those parties. I worked on Triumphs and Jaguars for Rick Cline in Gainesville during my college years and watched Rick and Jack May drive off in Jack's Ferrari on their way to the Redball Garage in 1975? I have crewed for several different race teams. Florida is full of race teams with Sebring and Daytona here. I am partial to Chevrons and Lolas, but I wouldn't turn a Lotus down.
I took up sailboat racing in 1980 and raced Hobies for a while, but sold all my boats a few years ago and started traveling in Europe. I have been hiking in the Alps. During all this, I got married, got divorced, started my own business seven years ago. I drive a BMW 330Ci.
This is a great forum. I have enjoyed reading about all of you.

Cool. Yeah, they won the race in 75.
Brock Yates recently wrote a book on the (infamous) "Cannonball Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash's" run in the 70's. It's light reading, but I enjoyed the tales told by the participants.

Hi Christopher, You will appreciate two of my favorite automotive moments while working as a T.V. videographer. Both happened at Sears Point raceway in the 80's. The first was to spend a day with Bob Bondurant on and off the track. Yes I own Grand Prix. The second was my favorite. Jackie Stewart (A childhood hero) was giving media rides in a prepped Merkur. I struggled against the lateral g-forces holding my camera while Jackie kept the car in perfect balance with throttle and brake, all the while holding the steering wheel with just his fingertips and thumbs. And my favorite quote "Now remember Steven, You have got to be smooth." (Add Scottish accent)

I saw Jackie at Sebring once, but never met him. Let alone a ride! I'm one of those who stands in line to get autographs at the ALMS races now. I don't know whatever happened to Cline or May. Cline crashed his DP Triumph and damned near killed himself years ago, and I remember sealing the Ferrari in a building in 80 or 81. I went to the F1 races in Spa and Hochenheim a few years ago. Most everyone (excluding myself) grew up and I don't see them any more.
I will be restoring the Z - her lovliness, miss 26 - and plan to post my efforts in the coming months. She is lovely now, but you know how old broads need a lift in their old age! I want her drop-dead gorgeous again.

There must be another intro thread floating out there but oh well....
I'm Dwight, 33, married to a woman that loves me and just rolls her eyes at my Z infatuation a lot. It doesn't help that she is pregnant and ready to go at the moment. I live in Chandler Arizona and work for Insight selling IT hardware, software and services (read, if you need anything let me know, I'll put the commision I make to the Z). I grew up in Florida (Sarasota and Orlando) and spent some time just north of Atlanta Georgia (trying to get back).
My first Z was a 1973 that I got in 1988, I "refreshed" her and drove her until somewhere around 1993.... My heart still aches.
My current Z is a badly oxidized 72 that needs much TLC but I can't bring myself to stop driving it long enough to get things done. I bought her in November and will probably get it in the garage try "refresh" in the fall.
The wife drives a @#%^&$^^&%*((%$@!#@@#$ 98 Jetta. It's actually been a good car I just HATE it. I also have a 95 Sonoma that is "suppossed" to be my daily driver.
The current family includes a cat and 2 dogs. The above mentioned ankle biter is due the beginning of July.
That's enough of me........... next!

Hmmm....looks like an old thread but ok
I'm Craig, 21. I'm about to finish college at UC Santa Cruz in the fall. I'm addicted to old cars, I have a 56 Ford pickup disassembled in my garage and waiting for attention after the 71 240z. I work at a local hotrod/custom shop, and I fully believe in building as much of the car yourself as you can. I really like painting cars, but unfortunately none of my employers have trusted me to do a paint job on a customer's car (we'll see what they say after I finish the Z). Not really sure where I'm going in life, just enjoying the ride

Hello all!
I am 36, with 3 kids 15 months, 4 years and almost 6 years old.
I just bought my first Z 3 weeks ago and I am still trying to get it shipped to me (it is killing me - the wait) from AZ to PA.
Zs rule. I always wanted one. Why not get the original? Could not find a suitable series 1 so I got a 71 1/2.
I am 100% Z. LOVE THE Z. Although I still have not seen the one I bought.
Also have a 2002 Kia Sedona (family car), 1992 Maxima bought new - this car has 163,000 miles with 0 work on it, `1986 Buick Century - this rules as my deceased grandfather used to own it, and a 1991 Honda NightHawk 750 (old toy).
My other love is IFOCE.com. Trying my hardest to make it to the World Hot Dog eating championship on 7/4/2003.

Northern NJ Larry here.. i'm 32... just acquired my 2nd Z a few weeks ago. It's a 71 1/2 240Z. My first was a 77 280Z in great shape that I purchased in 86 for $3K. Sold it in 89 for $3K, because, get this, I couldn't fit a refridgerator in it.
Of all stupid reasons... Well, I've had the bug since and just gave up the garage to rejoin the club.
The 71 was parked in 92 and hasn't run since... it spend all but the last year in a barn.
I'll plan to strip it to frame and repair structure and then rebuild up. Don't think I'll go the 'restore' route but rather, more the street modified. If anybody has an old 'whale tail' I always loved those.
In any case, I just got the car up on jacks today and finished draining the old fuel/sludge. What does 12 year old fuel turn into anyway? Seemed like molasses..
Check out the pics in the gallery...
Oh yeah, I'll post a pic of my old 77... both before and after I sold it. Bet ya can't guess who wins when a UPS Big Brown plays 'tag' with a Z.

I can't believe i've never chimed in here before, out of all the times it has come back to the surface of the forum.
My name is Andrew and I am a 19 year old college student at UT Arlington majoring in aerospace engineering. I have a good GPA right now, so I am currently planning on transferring to UT Austin next summer. I plan to first get a bachelors in aerospace engineering, then complete the ~30 credit hour difference and pick up a bachelors in mechanical engineering.
The only thing I see as an obstacle to going to Austin is finding an affordable place to live that has a garage(I don't think I could sleep at night knowing she is exposed to the elements!) and is relatively close to campus (if any of you Austin Z guys have tips about this, please let me know :cheeky: ).
I have been in love with the looks and character of the early Z for a while now. I picked mine up through an ebay auction for a car in the "rust free" area of Modesto, CA. Let's just say I learned a few good lessons about dealing with people that will certainly serve me well when I decide its time to get another Z!
I must say, we sure do have a lot of variety on these forums, and it shows in the kinds of diverse opinions people have! This is the most useful Z-car website I have checked out.

Now I don't have to imagine myself driving anything else, cos I drive my darling 240K "it's a skyline damnit!" Sold my Zed a while ago and now I'm 18, yeah just over a year of ownership but the $$$ told me I couldn't have it. The passion is not dead though, just dormant...

'Bout time I joined the ZAA (Z Addicts Anonymous)...here goes
I'm Adam (most ppl just call me Goat, long story) I'm 19, live in a place I don't belong (Mocksville, NC) and love girls, guns, and cars and STRONGLY dislike ricers, dishonesty, and slow, heavy cars (basically most trucks and all SUVs). I was never bestowed a car at 16 like some so by the time I was 17 I had saved enough $$$ to purchase my first vehicle, a '95 Dodge Dakota Sport that served it's purpose (point A to point B). By some bizarre twist of fate and stupidity I joined the Marines shortly after High School (and subsequently sold the truck b/c I wouldn't need it at Parris Island). 40 hellish days later (Erroneous enlistment - they screwed up on my vision waiver) I was back home with no hair, double pneumonia, no ride, and a very extensive abusive verbal dictionary to reiterate from. So began the search for the last car I ever wanted to own, a 1972 240z stick (preferably an aftermarket 5-speed). All I came up with in this small town was a $500 '81 280zx that had more wrong than right. Rust, weeping water pump, oxidation galore, etc. After 4 months of getting her reliable and on a diet, our love/hate/why won't you run dammit relationship became tiring and costly so I opted to continue the 240 search. Ebay rocks on occasion. I found a decent '72 only 40 min from me and an emptied bank account later I had her. Now I work 2 jobs (car wash weekends and 3rd shift full-time at a well-known retailer) to support my costly habit of keeping one for transport (the '81) and trying to bring the other back to life to be my new DD for college (the '72). Rent, insurance, attending ECU in the fall to begin a degree (undecided...probably car-related), etc has kept the '72 under a cover and off the road. Basically I'm just a kid with too many dreams and not enough freedom ($$$) to do something with them. But where there's a will, there's a way...Z-man for life, Peace AD

I saw this thread and didnt think much of it, but when I started reading it I thought it was great. I read every post.
Okay, I am 20 years old and I am a third year college student in Stockton, California. My major is biological sciences and my plan is to go to dental school. I have a girlfriend that I have been with for 2 years in October. She was my lab partner. She learned stick shift on my Z. I have a early 74' 260z. It is almost dead stock, except for the 72' su's, the rally clock, the radio(I want to put the old Hitachi in), the bullet racing mirrors, and the mags(I really want Watanabe's, but unless someone wants to trade for my mags, no dice.). My dad bought the car in the midwest and restored(for me). He likes the car, but my stepmom didn't care for it. He knew I needed a car, so I got it. When I get out of school I plan to buy it off him.
This is a great forum and it has made me come to like the Z car even more. I am trying to absorb as much information as I can about them. My next car is going to be a Fairlady Z(probably in 10 years. hahaha). Thanks.

Ok well I'm 21 now and I've been into Z cars for about 4 years.. I've owned 3 of them 2 240z's and 1 260z 2+2. Love the 240z's just so much more than the 260's.
I'm currently studying at University doing a course in computer science I may or may not finish it this year and I'm not sure where I'll go from there either into a job or continue study.
I've recently got myself a new higher paying job at an electronics store called Tandy or ****Smith it's the same company.
I am obsessed with Z's I thrive on knowledge regarding them and especially the rare models like the ZG, 432's etc.. I don't know if I'll ever be into another make of car like I am Z's as long as I live.
I'm a purist you could say so I don't like wild modified cars I love the feel of the L engine and the way the car drives stock but I do plan on upgrading things like drivetrain , suspension , engine internals etc.. The idea is to not loose what the car was meant to be or meant to look like.
I enjoy posting on this site and learning about cars in general as well as helping others when I can. I don't know it all I hopefully don't pretend to.
Anyway that's the most interesting part of me :classic: . for now ROFL

Hello, I can't believe I haven't put in my 2c before this. My name is Chris, and I live in South Australia, in a little pimple on the map, called Gawler, great country town, everytime you do something stupid, everyone knows about it before you do ROFL . I have always been into cars, and rebuilt my first car a 1959 landrover from the age of 12-16, bit rough and damn slow. I fell in love with the Z's a couple of years ago when I saw one rotting in a shed on a farm belonging to one of my little brothers friends, a few months and $900 later I pulled it home and started pulling it apart. I hope that one day it will be a lovely replica ZG, but given my funds and spare time it may take a while. I am a student studying dentistry, so I am owned by study for the next few years at least. I also own a hot little 1600 (510) sedan, which was going to be a rapid project and a daily hack, but between uni and my welder dying, its still in the shed looking lonely (When I say looking lonely i mean as lonely as a car can get when it has a Z a landrover and a mini and a half to play with).
Cheers Chris

Well.. I am new to this site and I'll tell ya that 11 pages is GREAT!!! Looks like I am the third woman to post...
I go by Christa, or Zchick for short. I am single, 32, no kids (my cat & dog disagrees), lookin for a DINK. I live in sunny, HOT Arizona with my 3 Z cars & beautiful little historic home.
I fell in love in 1979 (I was 8) with my Aunt's Datsun Green 280Z 2+2. Ten years later, I bought the car off of her & I still have it!!
I am on my 6th Nissan, 4th Z car:
1986 200SX XE "Roxy"
1975 280Z 2+2 "Zona" waiting a restoration
1990 240SX "Maxx"
1983 280ZXT "Marzine" 62k orig miles (bought for my mom, she recently passed away from Breast Cancer - she was 54)
1990 300ZXTT Silver 315hp "Grace Z"
1990 300ZXTT Yellow 410hp "Bee" dailey driver with 71k miles
My '75 was my first love... She has 283k miles on her so she deserves a rest! But my '90TT daily driver is fast becoming my top choice - not a day goes by without someone giving me a thumbs up or a wink or just an open mouthed stare... I LOVE IT!!! This car is so fast. I do SCCA racing and this one scoots!!
I just recently started a new club here in Arizona, but you all are more than welcome to join... No fees & we are just getting the message board going. www.datsunnissandrivers.com I will be setting up fun runs, car shows, pool parties, etc.
I am currently looking at aquiring a nicely restored 1978 280Z and also a 1966 Austin Cooper. I LOVE Coopers too. What neat little cars they are. And the Riley Elf... You all in NZ, Australia, & the UK are so lucky to have had those little gems!! You all know the saying, "The grass is always greener on the other side..." I think I can see it in these posts from the UK to the States... Wild!
Well, that is all I have for now... Enjoy the Ride!!

My name is James, I'm 23 and live in Melbourne, Australia. I graduated last year in electronic enigneering but am having trouble finding work so if you know of any send it my way :)
Admittedly I have only really been interested in the Z's for just over a year now and in this time I have owned 3, 2 of which I still own. I was on the lookout for a light weight rear wheel drive car with a minimum of 6 cylinders but a turbo 4 would have scraped in. I was looking to buy a nissan s14 when I visited a friend who was working on a stripped out old rust heap i could barely make out. I couldnt understand why he would spend so much time and money on a technologically out dated junk heap but he proceeded to email pictures of a bunch of fine zeds and my eyes were opened. I always planned to fit some modern power plant in the zed be it nissan or lexus v8 or rb25det but as I have worked on the car it has become more personal and I would like to build as much as I could myself and I felt such a big swap was too muchf or a first timer. I have found myself a L28ET minus the turbo and will take it from there...
I also just finished re writing my website if anyone is interested to see my cars and what I'm up to.

My first love was my father's 1972 240Z bought in 1976, the year I was born. My father took my mother to the hospital to deliver in his Z and I was almost born on the passenger seat. So I've loved Z's my whole life. I bought my own about 8 years ago, a 72 240, and I am still working on bringing up to it's potential beauty. My father still has his and now we have matching Z's.

I own 1) 70 240Z ( in the pic on your left screen) It has the original motor that has had a stage 2 cam, 6-into-1 header, 2 1/2 pipe and a flowmaster muffler put in so far.
All the polished aluminum on her was done by me at home and all the other work was also done by me. Hense the phrase " I'm too cheap to pay someone else"
I used to own an 78' 510 2door hatchback that I built the crap out of, Raced It, then sold it 5 years later to pay for the traffic tickets I received on it's behalf. ( clocked By State Trooper @ 140+ MPH and still accelerating. oops, sorry officer.
Weather up here sucks ass, esspecially when you blow the heater core hose in the first FREEZE of the season, tear it all apart to find out it was only a hose in the first place ( kinda jumped the gun that time )
So far I'm really torn as to what I'll do with the car in the following months, TO RESTORE, OR TO BUILD FOR RACING? tough decision.

I'm a 53 year old retired grocery clerk. I am married (2nd) with one child (23 year old son) and my wife has one child (29 year old daughter) both from previous relationships. She is 47. We have 4 grandchildren. We have been married some 6+ years and it is the best move I have ever made. I have been into Datsuns since the early 70's and have owned many including the 510 (3), a roadster (70 1600), 2 520's, a 620, my present 320, Z's (70, 72, and my present 78), 3 A10's (78,79,80), 1 84 Pulsar NX, 81 200SX, and my present 79 810 2dr. My vehicles are not restorations per se, but clean and complete drivers. I do not have a fortune invested in them as some seem to. The most modified of the three is the 320. That was mainly to make it freeway worthy. It has a J16 with a sidedraft weber, a header, 200sx 5spd, roadster differential, etc. The others are basically stock. The 810 is my daily driver but I get equal enjoyment from all three of them. I am a 'Datsun' fan. I don't care much for any of the ZX's or the 350Z. I'm not knocking those cars. They just aren't my personal prefference. The only 'Nissan' I ever personally owned was a 1993 NX 1600 although the 200sx had both Datsun and Nissan badges on it. I'm not much into the front wheel drive cars though I have owned a couple. (Pulsar NX, NX 1600) This site is the most informative and entertaining Datsun/Nissan site I have ever come across. I visit at least daily.

Chris, 36 years young, Lincoln Nebraska (not a Red Clad Loon). Married, have a 5 month old son. 2 Boxer dogs, one cat. Work at a Mack Truck Dealership in the Parts Department.
Hobbies besides Z cars are: Fine Tequila, model railroading, model cars, growing Italian San Marzano tomatoes, reading Stephen King during the winter.
I fell in love with Z cars when I saw a Black Pearl 280 new on the lot. Bought a black 1971 when I was 16. Right now I have a 72 and a 73. The 72 is a beater I bought off a guy who was giong to have it crushed. Rusty but trusty. My 73 is a clean 99% rust free car that's spent its entire life in Nebraska. Sold out of an Omaha dealership I am its third owner. I have a couple pictures of it in my Gallery. It has your normal mods that you'd expect on a Z. Better suspension, wheels and tires, etc. Motor has been punched out and it has ztherapy carbs. Its not a rocket ship but she'll get up and go. Makes me smile everytime I look at her.

Hi I am Steve a public radio reporter in Spokane Washington. I'm 47 years old and fell in love with the Z when my eighth grade female english teacher showed up at school with a brand new 1970 orange 240-Z.
I bought a cherry 79 ZX in 1990, and have babied that car for 14 years. I continued to search for an acceptable 240-Z since about 1991. I drove maybe 20 cars in my area in the next few years. I saw a couple that interested me but had no approval from my wife at the time for a second Z car.
This year I found a nice series one 71 on this website for sale in oregon. The wife said OK, so I bought that car, and hope to dial in a few fixes, get her paid off, then eventually paint the Z in a year or two.
I love this website, great to have help from all you folks on many issues!

My name is Bob Dadd and I am 33 years old, single (still looking), and work in the financial services industry. I am currently working towards a Bachelor's degree and reside in Southern Maryland, which is approximately 25 miles from the Nation's Capital. My hobbies include Z cars, sailing, golf, and travel.
I currently own 8 Z cars in various stages and have always been into cars and to a lesser extent sailboats and planes. My parents started me into the car hobby at a young age with Matchbox cars and in 1978 my father bought a brand new 280Z and ever since then I have been hooked on Z cars. One of my proudest memories is being able to hand over the keys to a '77 280Z to him a couple of years ago. Between working on the Z's and helping to bring back the old Hunter 30 there are no shortage of projects.
This website has been a great help and the comraderie among fellow Z enthusiasts have made this one of my favorite places on the web.

My name is Sean Duggan, I'm 32 years old, married with two children. I'm a Canadian Air Force Officer working as an Escape Systems Engineer (I test ejection seats, parachutes and Aviation Life Support Equipment) in Cold Lake, Alberta. I own a green 1973 240Z, which was my first car, which I bought in 1991. For the story of how I came to own my car and also the work I've done on my 240Z, check out the following website.
http://www.tizcc.ca/sean.htm
I am currently a member of the Edmonton Z Car Club and the Thousand Island Z Car Club.
It looks like I'll be moving to Eglin AFB near Fort Walton Beach in Northern Florida this summer for three years. I'm really looking forward to being able to drive my 240Z for more than seven months of the year!! Any Zcar nuts live in the area? Any Z Car clubs in Northern Florida?
Cheers,
Sean
Here goes , My name is Jim I am 44 yrs old and an MRI technologist for a radiology group . I am married with 2 stepchildren and we have an 8 year old girl together and a labrador ( if he only had thumbs). back in the mid 1980's I drove a 1979zx and 1982 zx along with several motorcycles. Had to sell the 82 when I got married and finally decided it was long enough without one. It will take alot of work which I am new to but the advice I have gotten off this website from you guys has has made this progect go a bit easier. And Escalon the longer the post the better espically when it comes to bodywork. Thanks

Well my name is Dan; I'm 29 and have been a stonemason for 8 years. Now I have had around 6 z's in my past but never had a second car to drive while I truly devote myself to my new baby, a 1972 240. Well this time I'm doing it rite and I have to tell you it feels great! I live in the mountains, so its great driving the country roads; the only problem is that the driving season is kind of short. Thanks for all the very helpful advice I have received in the past from all yall fine z people and I hope to be able to provide some soon.
Thanks again,

well i guess i might as well join in. My name is shane Marzullo i am 34 years old man, married with two daughters. i own a 1973 240z datsun. i was given this car by father when he died in 1985. he was the original owner and bought it in calf. when he moved to ohio the rust got to it so he restored it. it only took him 7 years but he did it. after he died my mom just left it in storage not telling me that it was mine(she thought i was to young to have it). by the way my mom idea of storage was outside in the weather for 3 or 4 years(great for the paint job and rust). she deside to tell me it was my car when i was 20 years old. when i picked the car up out of storage ( yes a real storage place this time. i think she had a clue about the weather) it was in fair condition. there was some cracks from the bondo and paint. so driving it for a while i saw that it need some work. so i put it up for storage. this year i have started to restore it. the best help i have had is this web site (THANK ALL OF YOU) from the mazda miata seats to the body panels and color. once i am done i will up load my photos for all to see.

Well I thought I had posted this topic before, but it must have been
over at another Z forum....we tend to wander :ermm:
I'm now 49...a bachelor with 2 golden retreivers and live in
beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire.
I spent 20+ years managing and operating water and wastewater
systems for a few Towns and Cities in New England, but have
grown tired of the politics and back stabbing that goes along with it!
So now my view on life is...take it a little bit easier...work enough
to live a good life...and enjoy ones interests. So now I read electric
meters about 25 hrs/week ( primary job for benefits) and have a
couple of part time...make your own hrs type jobs... which pays
for lots of new Z parts ! :cheeky:
That interest is certainly now, Z cars. I got my 75-280 out of California last
year, and have enjoyed restoring it and the new friends at the Z
car clubs and online.

About two years ago,I saw a car that I wanted to have but did not have the funds 34 years ago when I was a student in Arizona.
By chance ,about two years ago ,I came accross with my 71 240Z,and bought it.
I call it my mistress and to my best of knowledge I own the only one in Turkey.
When I bought the car it was in pretty good shape mechanically. But she had fiberglass bumpers ,all emblems removed, heater and center console trimmings ,rear fenders modified.
I decided to go for full restoration.
The car was dismantled completely, sand blasted ,repaired ,painted and put together again. She is 98 % stock now and will be 99.5% stock soon.
Now I am driving my mistress with ecstasy and joy, keeping away from more lethal hobies and most important keeping my wife happy andwas secure.
Today I hit 110 mph,and my mistress was stable and secure.
This is my hobby and really enjoy working o n it.

hey! my name is jason king, at present time i own 2 72 240zs. i am 23 years old and i'm a customer sevice manager at office depot here in san diego, california. i'm pretty much married and have a 3 yr old son named matthew. i've been into cars all my life: my dad started me off young. he was from the "muscle car" crowd, and for most of the 80s had the fastest SBC in san diego. don't let that fool you, though, i have been into datsuns forever.
my first car was a 69 nova; it wasn't till i decided that i needed a car with better gas mileage that i was fully hooked into japanese cars. i bought a 95 civic coupe (just to get around reliably, as my nova, well, no va). i souped it up a bit, then it broke down on me. this was all over the course of several years, mind you. i was able to borrow cars throught my family, driving a 79 chevy malibu classic, 01 astro, 97 geo prizm, etc. my civic sat inoperable in the driveway for a couple years, then i finally got rid of her for $1000.
needless to say, with money fresh in my pocket, i went car shopping. picked up my grey 240 and knew i made the right choice. searching around ebay for parts, i discover a little vixen in san jose. after some budgeting and borrowing, i end up where i'm at now: i just purchased another 240z (original lime yellow) with a decently built N47 L28.
original plan was to sell the grey one and start over with a more solid platform, but if i can afford it, ol yeller is gonna be my daily driver and grey is gonna be my SCCA racer.... we can only hope!

What is the affordability difference between being married and living together? I don't really want to sidetrack this thread but I don't get the comment.
I'm not sure about california but in Texas you are considered 'common law' married or whatever after living together for 6 months.

I'm not sure about california but in Texas you are considered 'common law' married or whatever after living together for 6 months.
There's slightly more to it than that. You must live together and present yourselves as being married...then you are considered common law (and the 6 months is only a general guideline not a hard fast rule/law). I had to check into this once to see how screwed I may be when I kicked someone to the curb after being together 4 years 3.5 of which we lived together.

It is my understanding that CA doesn't recognize common-law marriage.

i should have been more specific... i can't afford a WEDDING... not being married. there are far more financial advantages than disadvantages in being married.
anyway, we have the date set to when we can afford it: next year.

my turn-i've always loved cars and lusted after the z at first sight. david palermo, married [happily!] 14 years, age 43, 2 kids-7 & 9, 2 mistresses in the garage. my first love-the 73 [1tuffz] which is awaiting an ls1/t56 transplant and the 83 [the kids call it the family z] zx 2+2 turbo 5spd. i'm prez of the z car club of rochester, ny and keep busy as a certified financial planner [cfp]. spent time in the army as a helo mech, uh1h medevac helo pilot then in the corps as a kc130 driver. i've been autocrossing since i bought my first z in 84 and have enjoyed numerous track days as well-at my home track of watkins glen.
side note-my personal invite to all you track enthusiasts-come on up for the 05 convention, i'm track day co-chair and i personally guarantee our track day at watkins glen is going to be a blast!
i've run through a total of 14 z cars, some drivers, some parts cars-loved them all.
i enjoy working out [want to look good in the casket], it seems now days to mostly keep up with the kids!
my wife ann is extremely tolerant of my z habit as our garage attic and what the kids named "the locked room" downstairs, house many old z parts. but as a friend mother-in-law told his wife once; "men need toys, if they don't have toys they have mistresses...you choose"! heck, instead of surfin' z stuff or in the garage [when the temperature allows-only 5 below zero currently] wrenchin' on the mistresses [see above] i could be out on the town...

My name is mat. yea i spell mathew with one t. i guess my mother was on some good stuff when she had me. LOL im 19 and yes i know im younger than most of yall on the form but i have the same LOVE for the Z. I have always been a car person. I live in louisiana. most people down here are all in the 4X4 stuff. dont get me wrong their are car freaks down here. while most of my friends are trying to jack up their car to go over rocks im trying to get z road worthy. Im not one of those ricey new kids on the block. i love new imports but they have their ups and down. i have a 2002 eclipse (yes its stock and a fun daily driver) i was going to plan to beef up that car but the more i looked at parts the more i was limited to performance. its a good looking car and it does turn womens heads or in your case daughters..lol jk jk. so during the summer i was working to save money for a project car. of course the first thing that came to mind was american muscle. i loved the sound of these cars. i came very close on good deals with some. for example 71 cuda, 74 mach1 fastback, and yes the good old 74 trans am. after getting in them and test driving them it was truly something different. the only thing that kept me from ever getting one was that the inside of these car where so huge. i felt like a little kid on a steering wheel. i guess thats why i love imports because of their smallness. i had a friend that was showing all these cars on ebay(by the way he and his dad are working on a 69 camaro) and some how we came across a datsun. i never seen a car like this. so of course i wanted to find more info on these awesome looking things. when i first saw these cars in person every curve on it was just drop dead sexy. then finally i got in the inside of these cars and i was just amazed. i felt like i was home in these cars. the dash really got my eye. Also it being just a 2 seater got my smile even bigger. so the next thing i know im searching for datsuns close by. took over a year but i finally got one. it is some work getting "o so sexy" but im having a blast with it. i have and still learning so much of these cars. i just went to the louisiana z club and these people were so nice. all the people on the forms are very helpful and accepting. so i have the impression that Z people are the nicest and one of a kind. i never knew that the z was so big when i first started. its great to see so much encourgment going on with the z.

Welcome and congratulations on your purchase.
When I was younger, in the 70s & 80s, I liked the Z a LOT too, but they seemed to be too expensive and people who had then would never let ME drive it! So a few years ago, Istarted looking for one again, and a frien in Tampa, FL, told me there was a used Z-car dealer down the road from him! Fletcher Ave., of I-275 in Tampa. So I looked and he even had a website!
Z-Docs Website (http://www.zdocs.com/)
So i looked up a good car and worked out a deal. fortunately for me, he was coming up near Cleveland, OH, so he trailered the car up and delivered. Otherwise, I was going to Tampa to drive it up myself. Good thing I didn't, because the hose on the fuel rail split a 2 minutes after I started driving home from the delivery spot. It took 2 GALLONS to drive the 2 1/2 miles back to the house- gasoline dripping the whole way up the driveway! :(
At first, my 280Z felt like a beast. The hood was about 300 feet long and it weighed 1200 tons. But after a while, you get used to it enough that you feel you can showboat. Just don't.
Maybe we can get Z-Docs to sponsor this place.
thx

I'll try to bring this back on topic.
I was a junior in HS when the first Z came out. I fell in love with them then.
But it was until I was 50 before I got my first Z. My first car was a 65 VW, followed by a 66 MGB, then a 72 340 Duster, a 65 Karmen Ghia, A 1981 Black Magic Capri, an 88 Ford Tempo, a 95 Eagle Talon, I still own my next car a 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R, which brings us up to my 1975 Pacific Blue 280Z which I picked up in late 2003 for $500.00. Now approximately $5K later its ready for paint. But its not over, two months ago I pick up almost showroom quality 81 ZX which even though it is an auto it is a blast to drive. And just this week I picked up my third Z a 1983 Grey 280ZXT 5 speed! Who ho It goes on a transport truck 2/1/05 and I should have my greedy hands on it by the 7th. I had someone check this car out for me so I haven't had a chance to drive it yet.
In Z heaven!

We're exactly the same age, Art. What time were you born? A friend of mine's father bought Her Majesty - the first Z I ever saw. Back in '70, I had a '65 bug also. But I had a TR-3 I bought for $50 as a fix-up project.
Glad to meet all you guys. A 240Z is a great car for young and old alike! Enjoy the ride.

Guess I'll jump in on this thead its quickly turning into a novel. I'm 56 years old, live in the Phoenix area (Gilbert) I have a 74 260Z with 28,000 original miles on it. It is exactly like the one I bought new in 74 only I paid more for this one. The only bad thing is that it is just sitting because I'm working in beautiful Bagdad, Iraq at the moment (yes its just as wonderful as u see on TV) but in May I'll be back and then planning a three week trip in the Z.

Well as you can see I became a member in December of `04. I have had Zcars in my head for a log time now. I took a ride in a friends Z in 1988. I lived in Memphis TN at the time (great pavement there). I had just gotten out of high school (Memphis Central) and was going to Memphis State University now named University of Memphis. I was very impressed by the car. It was a `71 240 with a lot of the usual mods to the engine and suspension. The car was extremely clean inside and out. I had no money at the time so therefore I had no Zcar either. I moved to Montana in 1990 and a few years later bought a Saab 900. I started playing in a band who's drummer owned an import repair shop. He had pictures on the wall of him autocrossing his 914. That go me started autocrossing. I modified my 900 to fit into Street Prepared. I raced it four 3 years untill I parked the car on the street infront of my office. I was in the feild when my boss came to me and said "we need to talk." Turn out my car was hit and shoved into another car thus totaling my car. Durring my years as an autocrosser I watched and rode in an E mod Zcar. This car is extremely fast. I regained the Zcar in the head affliction I had in `88. After the saab got wrecked the only logical solution to my car needs was to buiy a Zcar and a beater truck which is exactly what I did. I have an early `71 in the original 920 gold color. The inside has a custome plaid theme. The head liner, seat inserts and door inserts are covered in a funky 70's plaid. The same plaid many of us had for our first coutch. The interior is in great shape as is the exterior of the car. I have it set up as an F prepared car but I have retained the interior so I can drive it on the street in comfort. I would like to get ZG flares and 16x9 wheels but I am not sure on the brand yet. You can see my car at http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/635410.
About me. I am an Arborist (tree surgen) for the City of Missoula Montana. I have been a guitarist for 22 years and play Jazz (dinner gigs and big band stuff), fusion (more fun than Jazz standards), blues, rock, country and anything that presents a challenge for me. I could give up all else in life except music. I am 34 years old. I plan to go to the SCCA Nationals in a few years to learn from the "big guys." It shoud be a great learning experience. This year I came in first in F prepared for the Big Sky Region 38. I also won my class at "top Gun" an event where all the autocross club in Montana compete against each other. Our region won the overall title too. Well that is it. thanks

I've really enjoyed this thread. This is certainly one of the friendliest forums I've seen. I think much of this unpretentiousness has to do with the history of the Z: it didn't cost too much in the early years, in later years was known as a poor person's Porsche, and, even as the early stuff starts to get rare, it's still one of the most inexpensive classic sports cars to own and maintain. So Z owners tend to not be too snobby, at least from my experience.
I'm Dave, 47 years old, married for going on ten years, father of two girls, 3 and 6, living in Decatur, Georgia (close-in suburb of Atlanta). For the last 4 years I've worked as a software engineer at Turner Broadcasting Sales, Inc. building software for Time Warner's international sales and strategic planning operations--a great place to work.
I saw my first Z in 1970 when I was a freshman in high school. I can still see it cruising down my street with its 6-foot-4 teenage owner leaned back and looking way cool. A few years later a girl in town had a 260 in a beautiful turquoise color. A college roommate had a 280Z and a post-college roommate had a new 280ZX turbo.
My big brother was a huge race fan, crewed for a top fuel dragster team (Jack MacKay's "New Dimension" driven by Clayton Harris), and later covered motorsports. So I tagged along with him and saw several of Paul Newman's Z's at Road Atlanta.
http://www.datsunhistory.com/DATPICS/sharpz4.jpg
I didn't buy my first Z until 1991, when a friend suggested that I buy an old Z and fix it up. Not knowing that I was doing, I bought a 260Z for $850 that had been repo'd. After I'd bought the car, I got the SCCA bug and, really without knowing much about what I was doing, prepared the car to ITS specs.
http://www.DavesWeb.com/HounDawg/images/zena88.jpg
Those old flat top carbs were so vapor-lock prone, I had to cool them down with ice to get it to start up so I could finish my SCCA race school--but we made it. The highlight for that car was running in the 1994 Chimney Rock Hillclimb--what a cool event! In spite of being dog-slow, I actually tied for the Southeast Solo I ITS champtionship in 1994.
http://www.davesweb.com/houndawg/images/zena84.jpg
In 1998, my wife pregnant with our first child, I bought a badly rusted 1970 240Z out of a cornfield in Tennessee for $150 just for the carbs. I bolted them on the 260 and--WOW--the difference was amazing--just like everyone had been telling me--9 seconds a lap faster at Charlotte! I parked the 260 when I threw a rod out the side of the block coming out of turn 7 at Road Atlanta. With the new child on the way, I knew that was it for racing for a while.
In 2000 I bought a 72 240 that was being parted out for $250 with the plan to parepare this car for racing. I kept my eye on EBay buying various parts and storing them in the attic. I delayed the project while I built a 2-car detached garage and for the last year have had the 240 inside the new garage slowly tearing her down, fixing rust (I learned about electrolytic rust removal on this site--this trick has changed my life!), and cleaning her up.
http://www.DavesWeb.com/HounDawg/images/ZenaII01.jpg
Since the new year 2005 I've been working on her earnestly with the hope of getting her ready for a new SCCA Hillclimb event in October in Scottsboro Alabama. It will be hard to make it, but I work on her every night after the kids go to bed (way more fun that watching TV!).
So you restorers of pristine Z's will turn your noses up at all of my Z's, but I don't care. My approach is to not spend much money, do as much of the work myself as I can, have fun, and learn something.
Vehicle History:
1970 Toyota Corona (my friends laughed at me--nobody had ever seen a Toyota then)
1972 Ford Maverick Grabber (V8, light and fairly fast)
1976 Toyota Corolla (hemi engine)
1977 Toyota Corolla (totalled in head-on 25mph collission with a newspaper carrier who ran a stop sign)
1972 Fiat Spider 124 (what was I thinking?)
1986 Plymouth Horizon (new, cheap, a reliable dream compared to the Fiat)
1986 GMC Van
1974 Datsun 260Z (parked since 1998)
1986 Mazda 626
1994 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab (best vehicle I've ever owned!)
1970 Datsun 240Z (parts car)
1972 Datsun 240Z (roller--future race car)

Please let me intorduce myself. I'm Bryan, married father of two who are becoming adults very quickly. My son started driving (my '94 Ranger 4x4 super cab - great vehicle, was my wifes driver) and has laid claim to it as his own. He has given it some character (read dents and scratches) and so it just didn't feel like ours anymore. So, I started looking for a driver that I could fix up and work on. Having not grown up a wrench twister (only enough to keep transportation driving), I am looking forward to learning all I can. I have an '84 MBZ SL and parts are so expensive it really takes the fun out of it. So, I was thinking vintage mustang or ? and my dear wife said that would be cool, but her 1st choice would be a 240Z. I travel for business so I have kept my eyes open for quite awhile.
I remembered seeing a '73 in Spokane, WA about 8-9 months ago. It was really clean and sharp. I called the owner to see if he still had it and he said he did, and he was badly needing some cash for the taxman. So I grabbed a buddy and he drove me the 350 miles to check it out again. All it cost me was a room a couple rounds of golf and some food. Not bad considering he took off work to go.
Well it had been stored about 20 of its years as the story goes. 53000 original miles. It had been given a shot of paint, but no rust to be found and it all works. Very clean in and out. Needless to say I parted with some greenbacks and drove it home.
Well my wrenching begins right off the bat. Speedo cable broke half way home. Still has the flat top carbs. I have been reading as much of your threads as I can. I have a line on the carbs off a '70Z here close to home. I have some struts and springs on their way. Speedo cable is due any day. I am trying to decide the route to electronic ignition. There is so much conflicting info out there!! :stupid: Headers while the carbs are being installed?
If there is anyone out there in the Portland area that would like to help me install carbs and de-smog my baby, I'd appreciate hearing from you. I'd like to have it ready for the June Z event in Canby, OR. Looking forward to the camaraderie and experience you folks have to share. I have to say I am very impressed with the knowledge I am reading and the willingness you have to help us save these cars for the future. Hats off to you all.
Well thats the nickle version. Glad to be on board!!!

I'm late (as usual) to the thread here, because I'm lazy.
My name is Dave and I am going to school to be an auto mechanic. My love for Z cars runs deep as my father got his 260 in '74 (obviously...) and it has been in the family ever sense. I own her now.
So I grew up around Z cars my whole life, and have developed a love for them. I am currently working on breathing life into my 260 that is sitting in the garage in all her glory. I have big plans for her, including either a full NA build-up or an L28ET turbo swap, a 5-speed trany, MSA XL brake kit, full frame-off restoration, elimanting all rust, etc. I want to mix it with modern technology, but still keep it a Z. I look forward to tackling a custom power sunroof and rollcage sometime.
I eventually hope to own another Z soon (once my 260 is drive-able), and it will probably be a 240. I intent on converting this to a complete track car, with rollcage, racing seats, carbon fiber body bits, stripped interior, and a fully built engine.
I also plan on opening my own Z-specialising shop (but will do work on other cars as well) within 10 years or so. I will specialize in all Z cars, but mainly 240/260/280 era Z's. Still not sure what part of the country I will open my garage in.......
My car ownership history isn't too long as I am not that old, but it goes as follows:
-1st car, 1974 Chevrolet C-20 half-ton truck with a 350, 4x4 , 4 inch suspension lift, 38 inch tires, 8 foot bed
2nd car- 1987 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z. Modified her and ran into the high 13's. Turbo baby. Also my first encounter with a speeding ticket.
-1974 260Z 4-speed was "given" to me by my father in exchange for money. Haven't logged more than 2 hours of raod use with her, she's in that bad of shape.
-1988 Toyota Supra 5-speed (fluke, owned her for only 2 weeks, doesn't really count, but I made $400 bucks off it!)
-1993 Mazda RX-7 Touring 5-speed (stolen 2 years ago, and an absolutely money pit. The diva of sports cars.)
-Right now I am cruising in my 1999 (newest car I have owned yet) Toyota Camry 4cyl 5-spd. Hey, it goes and it gets 34-mpg!!!
Me and my girlfriend are seriously thinking of moving in together after I graduate from tech school. I look forward to being a father someday.
Hope this all gives you a better picture of who I am.

I'm single "fortunatelly" (I hope my gf wont c this post LOL but havin plans in future with me gorgious girl from Slovakia.. I hope everything will run well with us and buy her a Z also

I'm new to this.
This will be my first time posting any comment anywhere.
The power of the Z can move mountains!
My name is Bill, and I'm 43 with a wife, 2 daughters, a son, a son-in-law, 2 cats and a Papillon dog named Pierre that is my wife's trade for me working with my son and spending every extra cent on our 1975 280z 2+2. We resurrected this tired old Z into a really cool first car for my son who turns 16 in April, 2006. We've so far gone through the front and rear supension, brakes, front-end, rust removal, body work, body mods, paint, wheels, a lot of parts scavenging. To say the least this is a lot of fun and it gives me an opportunity to spend quality time with my son. Although he might say otherwise after being tongue-lashed after I bust my knuckles trying to remove some old stuck, rusty part from the car. We are currently putting the finishing touches on the exterior and will then move on to the interior, engine and exhaust system as our thin budget allows. I would definitely like to purchase another later model Z for my own daily driver when and if the right opportunity arises. We really enjoy this website and my son (kingdavid280) will be adding pics of our project soon to his gallery. Check it out when you get a chance.

Welcome, my youngest brother married a Slovakian girl that was studying here in the U.S. and she is very charming. Together they have a young son and daughter. We are about one-quarter Chech, so there are probably some close ties back in the "old country." I wish my 240Z was in half as good a shape as your car. These cars are truly "works of art."

Well i think is my turn!!!! my name is Camilo and i was born and live in Bogotá -Colombia... i´m 29, single, and bought my 1980 ZX 2+2 just three months ago, and after a hard field work of two months i had the money to buy it.... well it´s still an expensive car here in Colombia ( 4500 US$ more or less)... i´m geologist of the National University of Colombia by the way... and this is not my first Datsun. Actually i grew up in the backseat of a 73 Datsun 260C coupe soft top from my Dad, a great and luxurious car..... that i owned for a year after my graduation from the school in 1993..... well have Datsun again and a z or zx was my dream and my dream came true, also the dream of my Dad and now he´s thinking about having another one, just like me... i hope we can do it.......

Yep, I'll setp up too....
37 yo, married, two young daughters, I am in Marketing/Product Management mostly in the Software and Technology space (some of my tech articles are published on the web). I own a 72 240Z, which I recently purchased 20 years after owning (and wrecking) a 76 280Z. I also own a 1966 Jaguar E-Type FHC (carmen red) and a 1967 Honda 305 CL/77 Scrambler (look it up, memorialized by the Beach Boys in "Little Honda").
In the past I have owned mostly motorcycles, which is one of my many passions, owning 4 Harleys and a Kawasaki KZ. Just sold my most recent Sporster to purchase the Z (well worth it I might add).

Hey, I'll jump in too.
My name's Kelly, 25, due to be married here this year (oh god, what I could do with THAT money). I'm an engineer for SBC (Now AT&T).
My baby is a 78 280Z in poor condition. I can't afford to fix her up (anytime soon) but at least I give her the respect she deserves and a nice garage to sleep in.

Hello all!
Eric, 31 married with an 8yo boy who is as much of a gear head as his dad!
Spent 8 years in Japan and loved every minute of it, so much I brought my own sporty little Japanese import back with me....and no it's not my car. My loving wife of almost 10 years now. Who incidentally just let me but my first 240z. Thanks honey.
I own two Z's at the moment, a 75 280Z 2+2 and a 78 2+2 parts car. We will be going to New Mexico next weekend to pick up my 72 240 from the desert. (pics will follow)
Well I have enjoyed the board this last year or so I have been a member and hope everyone keeps up all the good posting!

Hello Everyone!
My name is Albert Sepulveda
I own a 1973 240Z with quite a bit of problems. I bought this from a family that was going to junk it. I have always liked Z's so I couldn't see it get crushed. Little did I know all the problems the thing had.
Anyways, I live in Los Angeles, CA. I am 20 years old and I am always seeking to learn from my elders(especially about Z's). If anyone ever wants to go fishing sometime, tell me I am always fishing around So-Cal.
P.S. Oh, I'm a A+ Certified Computer Technician, so if you have any computer problems tell me so that I can be of some help.

Hi I'm Roger
I'm 17 I live in Kent, Ohio and graduate in may. My first Z was a 300zx (I always wanted a 240 but I figured I'd settle for a 300 because it was cheap) but the body was too unsafe so I have decided to give up on it and part it out this summer. On march 17 of last year I was lucky enough to purchase a 73 240 that had been sitting in a garage for 15 years from the original owner for around 1,700. After new carbs, gas tank, and tune-up it is now my daily driver. Over the summer I am planning to fix the rust and rebuild it, ...it will no longer be the daily driver.
