Man, after working on my z in my driveway for the past 2 or so weeks i have begun to notice something. Damn near EVERYBODY has owned one! There has not been a day where i have not had somebody come up to me, and start up a conversation about how they used to have one when they were a kid, and how much they enjoyed it. I would have never thought I would get this much attention lol. My car is even pretty beat up lookin. Its silver with pitted chrome dish rims, and a primered drivers door. Even though its lookin like hell right now everybody seems to like it. Even a few of the local police officers have stopped by to check it out. One of em said "Yeah, i was hearing around the station that there was a kid working on a Z at *** **** St. So i thought i would come and check it out." I just think its a great thing! I would never get any looks while i was replacing parts on my 1991 geo metro. lol It makes me wonder whats in store for when i start driving it! Do you guys ever get this around town? :geek:

Just the other day a UPS driver delivered a package to the people across the street. He spent about 10 minutes talking to me about The Lady. Now everytime he passes my house, he'll honk his truck horn and wave. You got to think, these cars must mean a lot to the people who have owned them. Makes me feel really good about mine.

I think that stuff like this happens to all of us. Every time I fill up at a busy gas station, at least one person wil wander over and mention that they had a 240Z a long time ago, and how it was such a fun car to drive.

I get the feeling of envy from other drivers. For instance, I drive, minding my own, and I would look at the other people driving and they damn near break their neck trying to get a good look at the car. LOL I'm flattered that they do this. Then I get on base and the Honda and Acura boys stair me down. Like I did something to piss them off. Sometimes they catchup to me at a light and want to run. With no worry, I hand them their ego back. I love my Z!

lol ups guy and fex both know what the boxes are coming for, used to always have the same comments and always seem to have the same ending statement "wish I hadn't sold that car" , my brother has had the same things when he has been filling up his 260 , its kinda nice to know as much as the car brings joy to us who own and drive them , it also brings joy and fond memories to those to have owned them :)

Your drivers must deliver to my neighborhood too! But my Postman is in on the gig too.
MrMarcDude, you are in for that for as long as you own your Z, and more of it every time you drive it somewhere new! I can't go a block without some connection to another persons past prompting them to share the experience of owning" their Z!"
You will have achieved "Z-itus" when your car is worthy of such adoration in your own eyes, until then restore when the weather permits, plan when it rains, and enjoy the ride always.

Stopped to get gas yesterday on my way to a club show. Guy walks over and starts to talk about how he misses his 77 280Z. Says he packed all his belongings in it and moved here from Cali.
Then later I'm about 4 miles from the dealership where the show was and another guy pulls up and asks "what year" and I tell him to come to the show. He shows up and lo and behold, he's got THREE 240's at home in various states of repair. I think he's gonna get a lot of help getting them going now!!!:classic:
Yes, it is truly amazing the number of people out there with such fond memories of their former cars and those I continue to find that have treasure at home hidden away.

We attend alot of car shows through out Florida and hear this exact topic often. We are the only Z people amongst a sea of hot rods, muscle cars and fine vintage classics. Every show we attend, someone comes up to us and says they owned a Z and wished they never sold it. They say it's the best car they ever drove, couldn't kill the engine but the body rust was the cars down fall (which we all know). This all comming from people that are driving $50,000 hot rods and even more expensive rare muscle cars and high end classics. The Z was the jumping off point for many show car enthusiasts :classic:

I get the same type of responses with my Z as well as the with 810 and the 64 L320. It's just something about cars from that era. Our Infiniti J30 which is from the 90's is constantly being mistsaken for an Altima (no real similarity) or some other car from the 90's but people seem to know a Z even if they don't know what Z it is. Cars had their own personality then.

Not yet, I went to the Dr. today, Lithotripsy on Thurs. I will probably get them this weekend-depending on pain!
I'll PM when I have them ready.
Had a guy at the Drs' office recognize me as having a 240Z, even with out the car, (Meperidine means I didn't do the driving)I got the stories, questions, and the interest-sure beats reading waiting-room magazine! He is going to check out the '72 next week-after we both pass(Please God!) some stones after ultrasonic immersion for our Kidneys on Thursday!

Will,
I have heard VERY, VERY good things about Lithotripsy. An interesting use of sound waves to crush or pulvorize the stone(s). You may feel like you went a couple of rounds with Ali when it's done but beats the heck out of some of the alternatives. Good luck to you and your new friend.
