I always find it interesting to see the cars that belong to our club members. So, I thought I would share a pic or two of mine. I picked up this car (HLS30-05341, blt 6/70) about 3 1/2 years ago. It had 69K on it, about 74K now. I redid the whole interior, which is the rare blue color. This past year I restored the engine compartment, complete with all new seals, timing chain, paint, new Z Therapy carbs, new decals and as much new parts as I could get my hands on. It has Panasports, Yokahama 215/60/15's and Tokico struts. Next I hope to redo the entire suspension with stock parts.

This is the second 240Z that I have restored, and have loved every minute of it!

The first pic is at the Indy Z Car show, where it took

You do very good work! I would post some pictures of mine but now I am going to have to wait a few months until people forget about this one! ;)

Great looking Z, love the color!!!

Daniel,

The valve cover is one of the early 2400 OHC covers. They were only available on the '70 model I believe.

Great paint job!! Is that an original Z color? If so which paint code? I don't remember seeing an original look that good. Or did you have it done in basecoat/clearcoat?

I'm not sure but I think the 2400 valve cover came on all the Series 1 cars, a friend of mine has one he bought brand new (no he won't sell, I've been trying for years) that has one. His car was built in 11/70 and the one I bought was built in 11/70. Mine doesn't have the original head but luckily I have a couple E-31's and one has the 2400 valve cover. It's kind of strange that he bought a Z over 30 years ago and I finally found a Series 1 three years ago and they were both built the same month, in fact the Vin numbers are pretty close. His is 14749 and mine is 15721.

Mine was originally 915 orange but I am going to change it to 110 Red. I know I should put it back original but I've always wanted one in red, finding one seems to be almost impossible.

No the original did not look that good! The original color was Dark Blue metalic 903. It was not that nice. The PO painted the exterior before I got it. As I was told, it is Ford, Midnight Blue, 2 basecoats, with 3 coats of clear. I like it way better than the original color.

About yours, you should be fine switching from one original color to another, as long as you do a thorough job of changing it everywhere. That is if you are going the originality route. I had a '73 before, that I mildly customized. It was originally that pukey lime yellow, which I coudn't stand. I repainted it Guards Red (Porche), with Golld pearl in the clear coat. That car was drop dead beautiful!!! So, If you like red, go for it!! Just be prepared to be noticed by the cops too.

No matter who's color it is it looks good on a Z, especially with the Panasports!

Right now I have mine stripped, I'm doing the underside and engine compartment first. I already rebuilt and repainted the suspension etc. I plan on putting the running gear back in before I do the outside of the body, then do the interior last. As far as the cops go, I don't plan on driving this one too much. Only on sunny summer days and maybe a couple shows. I have an ITS car that was wrecked so if I get that fixed I can get my need for speed taken care of on the track. I raced a 280 I built years ago but it just wasn't fast enough so I've got that one sold.

There is a nice looking 280 on ebay right now, item #600493059, it isn't original but it sure does have a great color. It seems like every Z I've ever owned was orange at one time or another, I've never liked orange so after seeing two 240's in the old Z-car magazine I decided on the red.

Marty,

Love the colour, love the car. She really looks great! :)

Engine bay looks the business too. Thats something on my to do list.

We call your wheels Minilites over here, well they closely match them. Definately suit the Z.

I do have one question. How did you clean up the vaccuum canisters on the intake?? I haven't seen too many that shine like that. Did you buff them or re-plate them??

I hope to be able to figure out how to use the buffer I bought from Eastwoods so I can polish my intake etc. and hate to think about putting those grungy little buggers of mine back on without trying to clean them up like yours.

I am not sure what you mean by vaccuum canisters on the intake. I bought the whole Z Therapy set up. Intake manifold, carbs, linkages and new Nissan carb insulators.

I did find a couple of products that do a great job of cleaning of old grease and grime though. Goop Hand cleaner with a Scotch Brite pad works great. TSP is a strong cleaner. And Castrol makes a cleaner that is really powerful on grease. Used that to clean the engine bay.

I was talking about the ones on the intake crossover, and going to the distributor. I can't think of their correct names, I usually call them junk since I usually toss them when I de-smog the cars. I wasn't sure if they were new, re-plated or what. They look like they have a gold cad plating on them, but I've never seen them shine like yours.

If they came Z-therapy I guess I know where I'll be getting my carbs and intake done, now if I can just find enough old ones lying around...........

I've been thinking about putting my numbers matching engine in storage and using an IT motor I have so if I decide to do that I guess I'll use the triple webers I have and keep all my early SU's.

Are you talking about the Anti-backfire valve? That came with the Z Therapy set-up as well. I have put about 1,000 miles on them and am happy withthem so far.

Geez, you answer quick, I was off putting my two cents in on another thread.

The anti-backfire valve is one of them, there are two others near the fuel rail. I didn't realize that Z-Therapy put them in their kits.
Well, you answered my question, now all I have to do is make up my mind which way to go with the car. Right now I have one too many, but I'm hoping the guy will come to pick it up by the end of the month. Then I'll be down to a more manageable number, I'm kicking myself for not building a bigger garage!

I have a 1970 240Z blue on blue also. A rare color indeed. Mine is in good shape but not as clean as yours. Slowly but surely. Drop me a line some time I would be interested in swaping contacts and suppliers for the metalic blue interior. I have a few extra interior parts but am looking for other.

Later,

Whall,

I am always interested in finding new sources for parts. Email me directly at marty.rogan@motorola.com. Let me know which parts you are looking for. I do have one extra part that I would sell. It is in OK shape, but hey maybe its better than what you have.

Beautiful paint job. So much so that I almost wish I'd picked such a dazzling blue. I trust you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. It shows.
