What is the law regarding taking home car parts/stuff with me back to australia?
is there like a certain amount of part/s where they can charge me for tax?
or what ever I can fit in my bags?

Alfadog
05-18-2004, 05:55 PM
I reckon your best bet is to ring up Qantas or another airline, I'm sure they'd be able to help?

Razor

I used to go to hong kong and bought all these electronics
and what I did was just tell the immigration that all of those electronics with me are all second hand and told them that they are very cheap.
Apparently you can also tell them its a gift or better you can gift wrapped them and no questions asked

Gift wrapping wont work with customs, but it is fits in your suit case chances are they just wont care anyways if you dont declare it.

I am in Japan at the moment and havent really seen any shops of interest but i havent really had much of a chance to look. Will be going to Tokyo motor show this weekend though.

Razor
11-02-2004, 12:57 PM
even if its 2nd hand parts do you still have to pay tax?

drunkenmaster
11-02-2004, 01:53 PM
I beleive you do.

And my RB motor from NZ I got taxed like a b*tch so, I am pretty sure.

Razor

I dont think I'll be bringing engines with me
just the hard to get parts

drunkenmaster
11-02-2004, 03:51 PM
I know, but I am just syaing that the engine was hardly new.

I wouldnt worry about it if it fits in your suitcase.

When you land Razor go pick up a copy of "Autoworks" magazine, it's widely available even in the convenience stores like 7-11 and what not. It's a great magazine that covers both old cars like ours as well as newer ones too (AEE86, Silvia/180SX/240SX, etc). In it you will find TONS of ads for places that cater to our cars. Full page ads nine times out of ten include a map at the bottom with the nearest JR or subway stop and how to get there.

You can use the phone number area codes as an indication to whether they're in Tokyo, Yokohama, etc and then it's just a matter of getting on the right train in the right direction of course.

thanks for the tip, I'll do that
I'll also visit Autbacs thats like autobarn here but MUCH better
I think they also have Autobacs 2nd hand shop everywhere.

EricB

Super Autobacs on Tokyo Bay at the Shinonome stop off of the Yurikamome line if I recall correctly (check subway map for confirmation) is one of the biggest. It IS cool but doesn't really carry much stuff for older cars like ours...

They do have a great partnership with a bookstore which is located on their top floor. I forget the name of the bookstore...

Fun to go there and look at the cool cars in the parking lot.

But you won't find old Z or old Skyline stuff... You really have to go to the specialists which have already been mentionned in this thread. There's a couple more I've visited but right now at least their names escape me.

That, my friend, is the beautiful C130 Laurel Hardtop    . A fantastical car with the same underpinnings and powerplants as the C110 (minus the S20, of course) It is quite possibly my second most desired Nissan behind the C110 GT-R, although, maybe third, I really love the CSP311 Silvia's too.

Damn i want to put that on my list too (=
I saw a 240c in perth the other day, didnt look too bad at all. It just happened to be a jdm model too, as the fender mirrors suggested. I know this is continuing the thread hijack but what is the japanese moniker for the 240c?

Cedric, they're still produced today though I don't believe many are exported (not new at least), but I do see the occaisional one roaming around NZ, they're quite a classy car.

That's known as the Infiniti M45 in the States and is THE understated executive muscle car. Can you believe they never advertised this car be it either print or commercials here and they wonder why they didn't sell??!!??.

The great thing though is that second hand even as new as a year old they are heavily discounted. I am pinching my pennies in order to make it my daily driver... silver/black & lowered on some 18" R34 GT-R wheels painted gun metal instead of their gold/bronze colour.... yeah that's right: forget about it! :)

Rob - glad you like the pics, it's a very "pimp" car I think.

You can search for "Y34 Cedric" on google image search and there are heaps of more pics... Check out the mean kit the highly famous "Junction Produce" company has available: http://www.junction-produce.co.jp

EricB

OR attend Tokyo Auto Salon which is in January. It's the Japanese equivalent of SEMA if you will. Much greater likelihood of seeing some Zs and some Skylines.

Hey people Im in Osaka, just arrived this morning and cars are really different, very suprised that I see a lot of minis. Most of the cars are mini van/cars they look cute though. Im staying in a traditional Japanese house and it looks exactly like the house in that Last Samurai movie... cooL! huh

I was just given a beaut of a Japanese periodical "Nostalgic Car Pro Shop Guide 2003". Not a lick of English text but so many shops for Skylines, Z cars, Roadsters, Toyota 2000GT's, Honda S cars. Loving the photos, but if I was going to Japan, It's a great guide to the shops.

Rob,
Can't wait to see those pics! If you could shrink a Fairlady ZG in GP Maroon and stuff it in your suitcase and sell it to me that would be great :cheeky: .
