My copy arrived on Saturday 05/22/04. The Mr. K cover is cool, and the main body of the magazine is also great (as usual); but the "16 page Convention insert" is more than 60% adverts, and has nothing more than a schedule of the convention events, and a history of the host club for "content" (kinda disappointed in that).

The special edition Mr K cover is cool. They do put a lot of advertising in the suppliment, but what do you expect. Its a good issue, though.

Hi Chris:

For me, I expected something more than a 1/2 page list of Group Z officers, a 1 page welcome letter, 1 page history of the host club, a 2 page schedule of events.

That is 4 1/2 pages out of 16 that are not dedicated to adverts. No pictures of past winners, no explanation of classes to be judges, or anthing "specific" to the event (chili cook-off, track day, etc), no write up on Mr. K and his career and significance to the Z.

Pretty thin on info IMO.

Hi Carl, the insert is double stitched so you can pull it out without destroying the rest of the magazine. This way the magazine is the same as always (lol) but make sure to hold on to it since there was only a limited run on the Mr. K cover and it will become a collectors item.

We (meaning Sport Z and Group Z) would have loved to put a lot more information in the guide, but advertisers went crazy when they found out that they would be in the magazine, hence the number of ads in the guide.

We couldn't go up in page count because the price to run the guide had already been locked in and it would have been really hard for Group Z to go back to Nissan and say, oh, by the way it's going to cost twice as much as the original quote.

By the way, has anyone seen the magazine in Barnes and Nobles or Hastings. I saw them in both stores here in New Mexico and was just wondering if they have been spotted any where else.

Of course! You know there is only one "Ed" on planet Earth! What do you think Sport Z did, import another one from Mars? :stupid:

Why will Ed be steamed?

Are you questioning his manhood?

Or do you have a really tough question?

Ed has pretty thick skin. It'll be tough trying to break through that leather.

And yes, chances are very good that it will be answered as long as there is a question in it. Ed loves a challenge.

Oh it has a question in it. But he mite not like it. But this is getting kinda blown out it isnt that bad.

I don't think this has gone to far. I do believe that this is what makes it fun for me to visit all the Z sites. dry answers to dry questions just don't do it for me. i want to have fun at the same time.

Well Basicaly Ed is a ****. The magazine needs to find a new tech dude.

RAZ1

It's amazing how much Ed gets talked about. For every person that seems to hate him, there is someone that loves his attitude. We get emails all the time to discuss Ed. It's hard to get rid of him when he has such a large following, both good and bad. My guess would be that Ed's Garage is one of the most talked about sections of the magazine.

We understand that he can get under peoples skin sometimes, but the answers are real and not misleading in any way.

Bill, where did you send your question too? I want to make sure that Ed gets it asap. I think it needs to be in the next issue.

Bambikiller240
06-06-2004, 03:48 PM
Is there in fact a person named Ed?

I always figured it was Ed(itor) since the writing style seems so similar to the responses to Letters to the Editor.

RAZ1
06-06-2004, 04:02 PM
Carl, you don't expect me to give every secret of the magazine away do you.

I will tell you that Ed is a real person. The names have been changed to protect the guilty.

Maybe I can talk Ed into posting on this thread. he might have a thing or two to say.

And you give our editor waaaaaaaay to much credit for knowing a lot of things about all Z's. Let's not inflate his ego any more than it already is. he has enough scars on the side of his head from not being able to walk through doors.

OK, I'm ED (sort of). The real ED is not ED(itor) and the real ED is not RAZ1, I'm ED (sort of) and billramsey2002's characterization of ED being a **** is hurtful.

ED, as I know him, calls everybody ED. ED, as I remember, was the "front guy" when RAZ1 and I (ED) were exploring the possibility of lauching Sport Z Magazine. You see, ED is all knowing and Sport Z would have never started if he had given RAZ1 and me (ED) a thumbs down.

ED used to be adorned with a gold necklace and exhibit SAE and crescent wrenches but was booed off the stage some months back. That was hurtful also. ED's humor can be an aquired taste for some but I think the characterization of Ed being a **** is a bit harsh.

Editor is also an ed of a different color and the same applies to RAZ1 also. So, in conclusion, Ed is me. When ED (me) is unavailable, RAZ1 and ED(itor) assume ED's identity.

Hope that clears everything up.

Yes you should. The USPS is the only part of Sport Z Magazine that I cannot control. We have 10 - 15 issues each mailing that never make it. It's a frustrating situation, but we try to take care of it the best way we know how.

The Canada mail situation is out-of-control and they won't even talk to me anymore. Six weeks is normal to them; it's not normal to me.

Please send an email directly to me at publisher@sportzmagazine.com and I'll take care of it immediately. I will need your full name and address and I'll take it from there.

There are some other board members of this forum missing the summer issue as well, please email your details to me as well.

Terribly sorry about the delay -- that's why we had to offer first class mailing. It drives us postal, but we don't shoot anybody.
