I bought my first and only Z (1978) about a year ago and have not been able to afford working on it until now. Lifes been pretty chaotic so it's been hard to do much of anything really. But finally things are settling down and I'm wanting to tackle this beast of a project and pump some life back into this sleeping beauty. Only one real problem...I've never worked on a car before. :stupid: I REALLY need someone wiser and more experienced than me to take a look at the car. So I've come here hoping one of my fellow Z enthusiastic will be able to size up my project car. If all goes right perhaps I will lure one of you pour souls out to Apple Valley to have a few beers and ta…

Hello all, having trouble starting my 76 280z auto. It will not start in park but when you shift lever into n position it will start right up. I also noticed that when in park the vehicle will still roll not engaging into park position. Is this a linkage adjustment problem?, and how difficult is this to do. thanks for your help. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/images/smilies/msn-style/shades_smile.gif

so, I replaced the ignition coil and was happy to see spark from "secondary ignition" test with chasis/body ground.... is it not the beginning of secondary when it comes out of the ignition coil? anywho, there was a strong spark from the coil now.... trying to crank: I heard a couple of detonations on two occasions while cranking but nothing more as far as trying to get her started.... so I checked the plugs and they were highly fouled with carbony goop... I've never seen such coagulation before.....black tar.... I cleaned the plugs off and only heard a couple of coughs while trying to start it after letting her sit for the time it took me to pull plugs, clean'em of…

Door Seals

I purchased a full set of seals for my 78'Z from Motorsport. I only installed the door seal on the drivers side because it seemed too thick. I have to slam the door really hard to close it tight and the road noise is more than before. I was hoping that over time, it would compress. It has been 6mo. and no improvement. Does anyone have any tips. thanks

Sorry, the search button didn't help me. A former US soldier who served in Germany brought his Z to a german scrapyard some times ago. I do not even know whether it was a 240 or a 260 as the car is in pieces now. I got a 5 speed tranny that I installed today and it works fine. As the speedo-adapter (or do you call it Assi Sleeve Speedometer ?) was not there I took the one from my original 4 speed tranny but the speedo cable doesn't turn. I think the gears do not even touch each other. I looked at my microfiche and found positions 76 -83 but none of the listed parts numbers are available at Nissan here in Germany. Any help is appreciated. Rolf

I recently replaced the heater control valve/heater water **** in my 83 280zx. Had to remove dash, heater box etc and vacuum lines. Lost the diagram I made of how to replace all the vacuum lines that i had to remove associated with the heater box. Anybody have a diagram of how to route these lines. Thanks, Pat

Hello, title really sais it all- found a nice one for twenty bucks and I want to jump all over it- came of a 75 280z and mine is a 77 280z. Are there any differences that I should be aware of? ie: transmission/CA or Fed/carb or inj differences in a 7 pin AFM? Thanks! Gina

Hey guys looking to buy an rb to throw into my z, just wondering what is involved in throwing this bad boy into my beast. Some questions I’m most concerned about is does anyone has intergraded the stoke harness with the rb’s wiring harness? Does anyone make custom motor mounts for this swap, and does anyone make transmission cross members for this swap. thanks guys!
