I hope to make this a Sticky (Mike!!) I want to Document every S30 style combo and Turn Signal Switch. I need every one to see what is already posted and add to this Thread if you don't see your style of switches. With any luck, anyone can pick up a switch out of a box of parts and be able to cross reference it here and know exactly what they have. I am now in possesion of over 80+ switches that I would like to start rebuilding for people and customers. Only problem is that there are so many styles that I am not totally sure of what is what. So PLEASE remove 4 screws from the steering column cover, take off the top and bottom covers and......... Take a picture of....…

Yesterday I pulled out the water temp switch with the intent of replacing the 2 wires on it. The ground wire broke off right as it goes into the fitting (not wire to solder). Since its basically just a ground, if I fabed a washer with a ground wire and put it on the fitting as it goes into the thermo housing would this work? I'm not sure if the ground has to be intergral to the switch or if an external ground would work. Or should I just leave it non functional since it basically only affects cold starts. I have removed the EGR system from the intake by replacing the intake with a non EGR type.

So I'm finishing up some final sorting out of minor issues (major ones have been fixed finally) and was looking over the info from Pertronix against what has been posted here as well as in my files. The Flamethrower coil I have is the recommended one from Pertronix with 3ohms of resistance in the primary coil. The stock 240Z coil is 1.5 ohms. The Pertronix instructions say to bypass the ballast resistor. Fine. But, pics shown here, as well as the diagram from ZHome (and supplied here) show the Pertronix attached (I think) diagrammed in parallel to the BR in the run circuit. Is it safe to assume the author of that diagram was implying use of the stock coil? If so, …

Hello, I have been searching and reading for the past month trying to make sure I understand. It's more so information overload. Was hoping someone here who understands better than I could lend some insight. Anyhow, background: Car: 1970 Datsun 240Z Distributor: 280ZX with E12-80 Module Tach: 280Z internals swapped into 240Z Housing Coil: MSD Blaster 2 Okay, so I have bypassed the ballast resister and connected those two wires(BW to GW). Then took the keyed 12v source that became live after connecting the two ballast wires (BW) and ran that to the "+" terminal on the coil. From the "+" I ran a new wire to the B connector on the E12-80. From the C…

My '71 240Z T/S switch needs replacing. I notice VB has different ones depending on the year Z. Courtesy shows one switch for 76-78. What gives? My car was built 2/71.

I have put new connectors on the voltage regulator wiring. I wired the connectors exactly as they were before going to paint. One of my questions is why are there only 5 wires coming from the wiring harness, but 6 coming from the voltage regulator. The white wire with red stripe (IMG_7889.jpeg) from the voltage regulator does not connect to a wire from the harness. Also there is a single black wire with white stripe (IMG_7890.jpeg) coming from the harness that does not appear to connect to anything. Anyone know what the wires purpose is? Greg

So after reading for a couple hours now (including some threads just like this one), I'm exasperated. I can't get my stock '71 Tach to work with the MSD setup. Setup: '71 240z. 280ZX Electronic Distributor w/ E80-12 Module. MSD 6A (Digital). Blaster 2 Coil. I found this thread that talked about the 8920 Install: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/articles-our-members/13085-msd-6a-installation-280zx-distributor-240z-tach.html That didn't seem to work. The tach would jump when the engine turned over, but then nothing. Then I found this one, which exuded so much confidence I figured, 'that must be it' and purchased the 8910. Getting your early 240Z tachometer wo…

I've been hunting down the cause of an intermittent "no crank" issue that appears to caused by a shaky fusible link to harness connection. The white plastic connector on the harness is brittle and 60-70% gone!! I can cobble it back together with dielectric grease and eletrical tape but, I would rather replace the brittle connector with a new one (if that's even doable!) I thought about havesting one from a junkyard 240 but, it would be ~37 years old too! Any suggestions on how to make this connection water/corrosion proof again??

Hi All, First post here! I did in fact look through many prior posts about my problem! I went for my first state inspection today and realized none of the blinkers were working. The hazards light up at all four corners normally. When I got home I changed one of the fuses (although it looked fine) and since then the front directionals are working but still not rears. The rear hazard lights are working as are the brake lights. Is this likely a problem with the flashier unit that is located under the steering column covers? THANKS! BTW, I always wanted a Z-car when I was young and now I have a beautiful one!

My Z was broken into about two months ago, and the thieves stole my Pioneer head unit, and cut my wiring harness. I am finally getting tired of not having a radio, and I was going to install a tape deck/radio I have laying around for the time being. The only problem is that I am unsure which wire to use to run the direct battery power (usually yellow coming off of the deck, obviously something else on the Z's wiring harness) and the ignition power wire for the deck (which I think I know where it is already. If anyone can help, it's definitely appreciated!

Help!! I replaced the coil and ballast resister in my 1972 240Z, and suspect I may have the wiring wrong. (ugh) 1) Can anyone verify my understanding of the wiring in my coil/condenser/ballast resister area? Please see my schematic below and let me know if it looks correct. If not, what do I have wrong? 2) Where does the wire from the coil condenser connect to? 3) There are 2 Black & White wires (1 to the coil; 1 to the resister). How do I verify which is which? Thank You! Jughead
