Prior to removing my rear suspension so that I can install Arizona Z Car's new rear control arms, I put my 240 up on scales to get a quick picture of how the car was set-up. All weights shown include me, a 7/8 tank of gas, full interior, spare tire, roll bar, front and rear struts bars, an R200 diff, upgraded front/rear brakes, a gnose, and the usual tools and spare parts. Here's my results: total wt: 2688 LF - 653 LR - 707 RF - 640 RR - 689 Left - 1350 (50.6%) Right - 1329 (49.4%) Front - 1292 (48.1%) Rear - 1396 (51.9%) Cross - 1348 (50.1%) Bite - 20 I'll post pics once I have the new control arms installed.

Hello everyone! I have been purchasing parts to bring my suspension back into shape... KYB struts, energy suspension urethane bushing kit, rear wheel bearings, etc. I figured while I have the half shafts disconnected that I would go ahead and replace all four half shaft U-joints. Is there any maintenance of the half shaft that I should do while I have the chance? Best that I can tell, the rubber boots look to be intact. I have not seen any threads that addressed half shaft maintenance. Jack T

Hi Everybody :classic: I'm new to the Classic Z website but very old to the wonderful world of Z Cars. I've owned my 280Z since new and plan to pass it on to my Son when they slam the lid closed on my pine box. Through the years my wife and I have ran hillclimbs & autocrosses and tour all over the US and Canada in the 280Z. During those 30 plus years a number of suspension parts have found there way on and off the car ... which brings me to my question. Over the Winter I'm planning to set the Z up to do some NASA HPDE racing next year (we already do HPDE with a 2006 Honda Civic Si and a 1995 Honda Prelude VTEC which I've tuned the suspensions on). I'm looking fo…

I've searched looking for an answer to this question, and haven't been able to find it. I'm installing the 4.11 rear end/5 speed tranny in the car this Winter, and while I had it torn down, I was planning to replace the rear struts/springs. Since I started, I've shifted gears, and decided that I would keep my original springs, and only replace the strut cartridges. Based on a search here, I found that my springs were exactly the correct free length, so I'm keeping them. I always felt the car leaned a bit too much during hard cornering, which I was blaming on tired springs/struts. The car only has about 28K on it now, and the 1st 26K were put on by an older lady, so it…

What do you guys think is a reasonable price for a 3.9 open diff, half-shafts, mustache bar, etc. from a pick-a-part Z? Frank

When I dropped the rear suspension out of the car for the R-180 (4.11) swap, I realized I have no rear sway bar. I never removed the rear suspension last Winter, so I guess I never really climbed under there to notice. How common was it for these car to be delivered with no rear sway bar? It seemed odd to me. Anyway, now that its apart, I'm gonna install a rear sway bar when I rebuild. My question is, which rear sway bars will work on my 73? Also, I'm planning on installing the Arizona Z rear springs, because I don't want the car any lower. Any ideas of which strut would work best with Arizona Z springs?

Well I have just finished my diff clunk investigation (positive results so far) and when I snapped this pic it looked like my car was sitting uneven. When I measured my right side was a about a 1/2" lower than my left side. Now my car was on ramps in the front and jack stands in the rear for over 2 months. I am wondering if my suspension just needs to settle again after being fully extended for so long. At the time of this picture, I have not driven it out of the garage yet... weather was horrible.

Well, after many long years I have finally finished uni and have some time to start working on the Z again. However Since it was disassembled some parts have become mixed up with bits from the parts car(s), as it was all chucked into storage in a heap during a shed cleanup (when I wasnt finished). Id rather clean and paint the right parts first time round. The car is a 73 240Z The rear mousache bar, I have two types, one which is fairly straight, and one which has a sort of kink in it which would position the diff further forwards (all are from R180 Equiped cars) If it makes a difference, the rear suspension mount has a bit of a curve backwards in it, compared to the on…

Howdy Folks, My '71 240z is equipped with tokico adjustable shocks and eibach springs from the PO. The ride is very harsh even on the softest setting. The .001s are in the front and the.202s are in the back. The rear springs have most of the coils touching(see photos). Is this common when springs wear out? Or could they be installed incorrectly. The fronts look pretty normal. The car is riding on some pretty stiff(and worn) Falken tires which I plan on replacing with something a little less aggressive once I get the suspension issue sorted out. Thanks for any help

So as most of you know, I'm rebuilding the 260Z this winter but I think I ran into a snag. As the picture below shows, the 240Z front left spindle/strut assemble is 3/16" shorter than the 260Z assembly (2/74) And the 260Z's spring perch is 1" lower than the 240Z's. So my question is........ If I use the 240Z spindles/strut assemblies and 240Z Eibach PR springs and KYB struts like I would on a 240Z, would there be any ride height differences or unforeseen issues?? From what I can tell, and off the top of my head, The 260Z springs and struts are a slight bit longer, because the spring perch is lower on the strut tube and the tube is 3/16" taller. But it seems like ever…
